Thanks. It's a lot of fun. Took it to a casual match last week, played against affinity and wound up being on defense until I drew a Price of Progress and killed my opponent with that. He was not happy. XD

I know it is not competitive but Slag Fiend is one of the coolest cards ever!

Check out The most fun you ever had! it is a deck of mine that is similar to this but casual play.

Cool deck. Ichor Wellspring could fair well unless you want to keep your land fetch wellsprings. Depending on how much damage you do with Price of Progress on average you could replace it with Fireblast .

Ichor Wellspring was actually in there first until I found Mycosynth Wellspring to be more useful.
People have tried to get me to use Fireblast , but I honestly don't like it. I'd rather have the mana, and it's not like I ever flood out to justify throwing it in. It's fast enough that by sacking two lands, I'd slow the deck down. And for only four damage that I can't pair off? Nah. Not my kinda burn. Price of Progress works better for me and the decks I come across. People know better than to play Tron against this deck. Do some quick burn and then I'll just sit back with my two open mana and wait for lethal.

Fireblast is a card that becomes useful as you run out of cards to play, and you have more mana than you need. After 4 lands, you absolutely don't need anymore, because you'll be able to play anything you topdeck. Fireblast turns your topdecked Mountains into something it can use. It's the same reason Shard Volley is so nice.
Since you don't need the mana, I also believe that Ichor Wellspring is infinitely better, because you want more burn spells and less lands. You could also use Mox Opal for a "free" land play, and another artifact to sacrifice for when you no longer need the mana.

Mycosynth Wellspring removes two land from my deck that I won't have to draw into anymore(and I get two shuffles), whereas Ichor Wellspring nets me two random cards, which might be land anyways, but no shuffle. Honestly, the wellsprings are just dealers choice. I swap between the two.
Fireblast can be useful, but as someone who has played this deck many times, I know I need that mana. Especially if I'm trying to play multiple sacs and vollys in one turn for the win. I can completely understand where it would be useful, but I have honestly never flooded into lands that I could afford to sac. I like Shard Volley better, because I can sac the land I tap.
I could see taking out the Lightning Bolt for Fireblast , but then I'd definitely want Mycosynth Wellspring to fuel it.

Nice deck! I'm New to magic, but i've learned so much the past too weeks thanks to this site. and I like playing in modern currently looking at RDW or GR, was looking at jund before but too costly. anyway im thinking of goblins now too. fast goblins(i like fast) Goblin Guide and some other small mana goblins. What do you think of transferring this to Modern?

I took it to modern a few times by swapping out Price of Progress for Thunderous Wrath and Reckless Abandon for Vexing Devil . Those are the only two non-modern cards in the deck. It works pretty good. I think it flows better as legacy, but that's just me.

I would never ever take out Lightning Bolt from a burn deck. Fireblast is great, but DEFINITELY not better than Lightning Bolt . That card is your bread and butter.
And the whole "take out lands from my deck so I don't draw more of them" doesn't really work from a statistical standpoint. Shuffling the deck isn't that big of a deal, because you should be able to shuffle the deck well enough before the game that it doesn't matter. You won't guarantee that your shuffle will net you more utility than your previous shuffle, because it's always going to be random. Sure, Ichor Wellspring might end up giving you a land anyway, but Mycosynth Wellspring will ALWAYS give you a land. If the card put the land onto the field, I'd have a different opinion, but it doesn't.
If you really want the shuffle, Madblind Mountain works just as well, if not better.

I don't know, it makes sense to me. And I've never had a problem with it, so I just prefer Mycosynth Wellspring . More lands I pull out makes for more mana I can use to cast multiple burn in one turn.
I'm not going to run non-basics with Price of Progress . Plus Madblind Mountain comes in tapped, that slows me down.

Not really, he doesn't do anything when he dies. Doesn't really fit the theme of the deck, you don't actually do much swinging.
Maybe. I could see replacing Tuktuk the Explorer for it.

I had Guttersnipe in when they came out, turned out to be really bad. He lust winds up sitting there while you try and cast around him, and his ability doesn't trigger if you use him for a bomb, because you have to sac him before you cast it.
I should make space for Pyroclasm , at least in the sideboard.

I was thinking of making a mono red goblin burn a while ago. have you considered Krenko, mob boss + Voracious dragon? that can be a deadly instant win.

Can you please say the number/section of the rule that you talk about in the description?
May 3, 2013 8:32 p.m.
ArrestedSnow says... #24
I shouldn't have said rule, since there isn't one in the comprehensive rules. I bookmarked an old thread on a MTG forum about sacrificing as part of a cost that I can't find now. But I've never met a judge who didn't agree that you can't target a sacrificed creature you're using to pay for a cost.

Nice deck, I'd be a good match for my Myr overload deck as they're on opposite sides of the fast creature spectrum!
