Disfigure... that is pretty freaking broken awesome!

Mirrid, I agree, Brute Force could be pretty sweet under the right circumstances. But in most cases where I want to pay , I'm going to reach for Coordinated Assault. Martial Glory, while you're right is a little clunkier under poor draws, provides an additional tactical layer. I can use it to save someone while simultaneously pumping someone else. For example, attack with two creatures. Opponent can only block one so he goes for a kill with his block. I pump the one getting through and save the one being blocked - in some cases, triggering his Heroic and making him able to kill the blocker. I'll playtest it to see how it works. I am finding that Launch the Fleet is sub-optimal, so I may replace that.

JexInfinite, I'm on the fence about mainboarding Lightning Bolt. It's always awesome and relevant at pretty much any point in the game - no question. It also adds to the Greek pantheon flavor of the deck. I'm just skeptical about how often I'd want to nuke something over triggering a heroic storm. I'll playtest with it as well.

Exaggeration - Hero of Iroas is a great two drop, but since the deck only has 1 aura and only 3 copies of it, he's not the best choice for the slot. I'd rather have the additional evasion from Arena Athlete and the explosive damage from Boros Swiftblade. Thanks though!

+1 man very nice. Except, you have to scream THIS IS SPARTA every time you go to combat.

Ticky, oh I know. Look at the URL for the deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/spartaaaaaa/

I'd take out Madcap Skills for Lightning Helixs / Boros Reckoners, as they sorta fit the deck better and wreck 100% more face.

Maringam, I do really like both of those spells. They're very effective at what they do. However, this isn't the type of deck where they'd be giving me everything they have to offer. This deck wants to win by turn 5 - it doesn't care about lifegain because health is a race.

Madcap Skills, when equipped to a double striker brings considerably more damage to the table than Lightning Helix. For example, a clear Fabled Hero targeted by Madcap swings for 12 each turn - not even factoring in the added benefits of first striking and requiring a minimum of two blockers. Madcap on Boros Swiftblade turn 3 equates to an additional 18 damage sent your opponent's way by the end of turn 5. Lightning Helix just can't compete with that.

I do want to add though that I'm considering cutting Launch the Fleet so those slots might open up for spells like Lightning Helix or Lightning Bolt.

Imo Bolt is strictly better than Helix in you deck. The life gain from Helix is irrelevant in most mach-ups (as you mentioned), especially since you take very minimal damage from your land base.

Evasion alone doesn't win games. You NEED removal. If all your removal is 4 Lightning Bolt, that's good enough. In soul sisters, we run 4 Paths as our only removal, and that works out, but without removal, you just can't get anywhere.

The reason Bolt is better for your deck is that it's not only removal, as Path is. You can still just burn their face to win.

Are you a fan of adding fetches to a 2 colour deck? It gives incredible consistency.

Sideboard Blood Moon too. Come one. It can straight up win the game.

You're selling me on bolt. I think it's time to do some rearranging.

Sagarys says... #12

You guys were right. Moved some things around and added Lightning Bolt. It just brings too much to the deck to exclude it. Thanks for the recommendation!

I got it. It was midnight when I said that, and I wasn't 100% sober (yes I was). Anyways, good on you for the 4x Bolt, but I'd suggest Mutagenic Growth, seeing as 2 life +2/+2 seems really good in a deck where life does. Not. Matter.

Just an idea, +1 from me.

Made some cuts and tweaked some card counts. Thinking it's notably stronger now.

Maybe work in 4 Legion Loyalist and maybe an Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit I dunno. Secure the Wastes, and Mikaeus, the Lunarch are x 1 drops so Who knows, they might help. I really like this deck though, a fast boros deck is always nice.

Thanks for the suggestions forforforest. Anafenza and Mikaeus are both awesome. Not sure how to squeeze them in. But they could work.

That's what I was thinking haha. Hard to find a dude to replace eh?

Yeah, the crusaders are the most expendable. But I don't want to stack the deck with legendaries either.

I don't know if anyone else has said anything about it, but I think your mana base can be improved upon. If it's a budget issue, I can understand. Also, if you want to piss people off, Lifelink and/or Spirit Link are your friend.

Lightning Helix is a just have

April 11, 2015 1:49 p.m.

Sagarys says... #21

You're right, the Mana base can totally be improved. But I am trying to keep the deck relatively budget friendly. If someone wanted to add some better lands, more power to them!

SoggyGecko says... #22

I can understand that. You know, Clifftop Retreat is relatively cheap. Might be a good add.

Hall of Triumph? or another Anthem?

Fleetwood-Mat says... #24

yeah, seriously, you're running red/white! There is NO reason to ommit the most broken card in modern from your mainboard; Lightning Bolt

more modern decks use this card than decks that use Island, and there's a question here? If for any other reason, just to respond to their bolts with a bolt of your own (because you know they will be running it). It will be an uphill battle for you if you let them have a crutch, and you don't use it yourself.

Thanks Fleetwood. I main boarded it yesterday. I was sold on it!
