I'm not liking the sideboard. It just has extra goodies instead of answers. Sanctimony is cheap. Rest in Peace is cheap. Rending Volley and Roast are all over the place, and cheap. Stony Silence is a must.

Even if you don't fix the 'board, Rubblebelt Maaka is better than Brute Force, even though it doesn't trigger heroic.

No you're totally right. I just added the sideboard full of placeholders. I like your suggestions though. I'm gonna start looking for answers and clean it up.

Took your advice GabeCubed, I added Clifftop Retreat to help tighten up the Mana base.

Really like this deck man. R/W has always been my favorite. I'm having a hard time believing a few of these cards are really modern competitive though, such as Favored Hoplite. I haven't had time to play test it yet so I could be completely wrong. Can you share any sort records so far? How has the deck been holding up as far as Win-Loss Ratio? I'd still it play just for the fun and flavor. Any time I try to play a strategy like this competitively though I can put down by removal, and that makes it more unpleasant.

Just built the deck and am in the process of optimizing it. I'm definitely open to suggestions for replacements if you have them. I was trying to combine theme, mechanics, and effectiveness while trying to maintain flavor.

You make some very cool, and wallet friendly decks.

Thanks DBCooper. I value two things in a Magic deck - fun and affordability. I love Magic but I'm too much of a cheapskate to play it as seriously as some people. So if I can build a deck that I can enjoy the actual process of playing the game and that puts up a decent fight, I'm OK getting beat by unoriginal top tier decks. They're top tier for a reason!

I completely agree. While my builds aren't as budget, I really love giving competitive decks a run for their money. I applaud you for doing the same thing I do for 1/4 the money.

Lol well thank you sir. I like to think that my decks can be starting points for more expensive versions of people really want to.

I totally agree the funnest part to me about the game is building the decks even more so than playing them lol. So building something that is not only competitive but also budget just makes it more of a challenge :p Plus I hate seeing the same 10-20 cards dominating a format making for a stale game. Picking a better one drop than Favored Hoplite actually seems really difficult to me, so I can't really complain he's more than likely the best choice. Two possibilities that have already proven competitive are Champion of the Parish and Monastery Swiftspear. I'd probably consider Titan's Strength over Coordinated Assault or Martial Glory too, just because its a bit more efficient, as it either nets you 3 dmg instead of 2 as opposed to the assault, or is one mana less. Also, it works much better with double strike and while Assault does trigger an additional instance of heroic, I don't think the heroic ability is quite prevalent enough for it to be significant consistently. I like to think of Titan's Strength as Lightning Bolt's 5-8 in Aggro decks. If only there was a one drop with double strike, that'd be the best. Finally I love Anax and Cymede so much. Overrun was the first strategy I really built with and had success with in standard and to me this guy came out and he was just overrun on a stick in my favorite colors. Except any time I would play him in standard people would just give me a funny look, stop to read him like they'd never seen him before, and then instantly get him off the board as fast as possible. He could work though its all about keeping up the pressure. I'm about to go play the deck a few rounds as is and let you know what my results are. I'll probably make my own changes and link to modified list if its all good with you :) Kudos to you dude for inspiring this sort of strategy in modern though man. I've never considered trying to run with it until now

Thanks for that mansfordm. I'll give Titan's Strength a shot. In an earlier version of the deck, I ran Phalanx Leader as well and being able to hit him and Fabled Hero at the same time made for some awesome swings. Now that the deck is based more around individually strong creatures and has a few non heroics, you might be right. I look forward to hearing how the deck does under your command. And yeah, feel free to tweak it to your liking and making another deck list. That's what Magic is all about!

Also, yeah Anax and Cymede are awesome - for flavor and ability. That's why I've got 4 copies in there despite the legendary status. He/she is a bullseye for removal. Which has its benefits, because Fabled Hero is a much bigger threat.

Alright, I did some rearranging and worked in 4 copies of Titan's Strength without drastically changing the current form of the deck. I think this was a substantial improvement. Thanks for the recommendation!

You thoroughly covered the deck. I don't generally run modern, but I understood how this deck would work. Good deal man, would you mind checking my recent list I added some information about my Reaper King edh build. If you do want to check it out here's the link It's harvest time

In your list, would you think a Daybreak Coronet would work with Madcap Skills?

April 13, 2015 4:38 p.m.

Sagarys says... #20

Thanks Zyxix. I appreciate the feedback. I do think Daybreak Coronet would work with Madcap Skills very well. The issue I have with that though is that it will only work with Madcap Skills. And if it isn't out, it's a dead draw. Thanks again though!

I'll take a look at your deck in a bit to see if I can help out!

Zyxix says... #21

That was the problem I saw too, I just really like the coronet. Do you ever get to enough mana to drop Aurelia, the Warleader? That would be fun as hell also.

April 13, 2015 4:51 p.m.

Sagarys says... #22

She would be awesome, but you'd need to tweak the deck to be a bit slower and more controlled. 6 mana is tough in this deck. By the time she'd make it out, you've probably already won or lost.

I don't mean to keep thinking of things, but Sunforger could give ready access to your Lightning Bolts.

Another great card, but a bit too slow for this deck. Turns 3 and 4 are too critical to be dropping equipment and digging for spells.

sick looking deck! im having fun playtesting it
id definitely switch out Coordinated Assault for Weapon Surge, though. makes topdecking a little stronger
