Creature (1)

This is a control deck based on an idea I had after building a draft deck around Prognostic Sphinx. The aim of this deck is to setup and maintain a steady stream of instants and sorceries from the library to the graveyard where they power up Spellheart Chimera. They can also be used to power up Nivmagus Elemental on the way there. Prognostic Sphinx serves a very important roll with her scry function which allows you to dig through the deck quickly. She also serves as a discard outlet which can be used to power up the Chimera by discarding instants or sorceries. A suite of direct damage and bounce spells round out the deck. Ral Zarek's main roll is as a multiple use Lightning Strike but provides other potential win conditions when in doubt.

Before: NUMBER OF CASUAL CONSTRUCTED TEST GAMES = 14 with a 21% win percentage.

The difference between theory and practice is reality. I built this deck online (without Jace) and discovered that it didn't work at all. The card draw never materialzed. It was so slow that I was dead by the time I played my first spell. Psychic Spiral, Epic Experiment and Ring of Three Wishes were so awkward to use that they almost never happened. The couple of times I did manage to resolve the Experiment, netted me a sum total of nothing. By the time I could resolve and then use the Ring, it was way too late for me to stand a chance.

Using some carefully made notes, I removed all the useless spells, added in some smaller creatures so that I have some meaningful plays in the first turns of the game and came up with what you now see.

After: NUMBER OF CASUAL CONSTRUCTED TEST GAMES = 13 with a 69% win percentage.
