Intro

After a decent amount of net research I made this Ninjutsu-Faerie modern deck, suggestions welcome as this is my first time playing Dimir outside of zombie tribal and I haven't ever gotten into the modern format too much. Let me know of any cards to cut, replace, add, or change amounts of as I have no clue what I'm doing and eyeballed everything off of their mana costs

Current post-test thoughts

Played this deck a few times, something is still off. I can't get Spellstutter Sprite to work, likely due to the lack of Bitterblossom. Was barely able to get any more ninjas in after they ETB'd, getting me stuck after a few turns and losing the game to having no way to get my Wincon ones through. I could fix this with more card draw, but throwing in more interaction could be a good option as well to ensure a clean board state to steamroll.

Being a WIP, only natural to ID the weak links to replace with better cards

More cards

Card draw is good. Very good. Ever been stuck with an empty hand and have to watch your opponent roll over you even though you made the best play you could? Happened to me a lot playing this.

Solution: Connect Ingenious Infiltrator more (+ interaction needed), add more card draw ninjas or faes (already maxing out on creatures so idk about this one).

More control

Screw making friends; modern is mechanical first, and this isn't supposed to be a jank deck. Blue is all about countering as much as black is about destroying creatures and red about burn. There is not enough interaction in the deck right now to deal with all the threats to my sneaky ninja plans, and this has got to be the top priority

Solution: Fucktons of counterspells, cheap ones, exiling blue cards ones, not so much expensive value ones. Also, discarding is a great part of black control that I should be taking advantage of.

More utility cards

Who doesn't love some niche cards who will absolutely destroy certain decks. Already got some, but what we need is more. Lords, scrying, spamming ETB and bouncing, value, you name it. This is what sideboards are for, and having never made one, it would be a great place to practice that.

Solution: Of course Bitterblossom, Although a key piece in this deck I don't want to drop that much on a playset that would cost more than the paper deck I have right now. Really thinking about it, modern is expensive and this deck works fine without 300$ of fetch and util lands so I might be able to find it in me to drop 100$ on a set or at least half of one.

What do you call a WIP without cuts? Not a WIP. Cards need to be cut out to improve the deck.

• Fallen Shinobi All luck, and too expensive. Makes combat annoying for opponents since it draws out turns. Never worked besides a maybe scoop button when I got two bombs

• Drown in the Loch Need more stuff in their graveyard to work, so either more interaction or just replace with Counterspell

• Silver-Fur Master If I remove ninjas and evaders in favor of interaction, no need for this lord

• Everything in the Evaders category No ETB value therefore can be replaced for better recycling

Why did I even add these in the first place, except to be forever stuck in sideboard

• Faerie Miscreant Too hard to pull off

• Smoke Shroud Not needed
