Changed from control/tempo with counterspells to aggro/tempo with Essence Flux and Unsubstantiate.

Hallowed Moonlight is a good sideboard addition to shut down coco.

Yes it is, but I prefer Dispel over it: only one mana and it can disrupt both Collected Company and Dromoka's Command.

So im thinking about building this deck because its seems really good. I just have 2 questions. 1st question is if you have rattlechains and mausoleum wanderer in your opening hand do you play mausoleum wanderer turn 1 or play him later in response to a spell via rattlechains. 2nd question, when kaladesh comes out will ojutais command rotating hurt the deck much?

Yes, I always play Mausoleum Wanderer if I have it in my hand. On turn 2, it often attacks for 2 on the back of a Selfless Spirit or another Mausoleum Wanderer. One of the best game I ever had was 3x Mausoleum Wanderers by turn 2, attacking for 3 on t2 and 6 on t3.

Yes, Ojutai's Command is extremely powerful in this deck and it will hurt to lose it (and Clash of Wills for the control variant). It is very often a 5th-6th Selfless Spirit when you need it, bringing one back from the graveyard to "counter" a boardwipe (except Languish) or an Archangel Avacyn  Flip flip. However, we will also get new toys in Kaladesh, so don't despair.

+1 Like the deck a lot, maybe consider trying out Collective Effort for Kitty-Pact and going over the top of other tempo decks along with your Always Watching 's, maybe Hallowed Moonlight for CoCo in the sideboard? Does Linvala, the Preserver sound any good?

August 22, 2016 2:27 p.m.

Spinifex says... #7

Thanks for the +1. I have thought about Collective Effort and it will see play once I meet a deck that I need it for. It could be quite good against Humans deck, but I have had no trouble with those yet.

Dispel is my go to spell against CoCo: I prefer the 1CMC and the flexibility (it also hits Dromoka's Command. . With it on the side, Spell Queller and Mausoleum Wanderer, I feel like I have a pretty good game against CoCo. I do side out Always Watching however, even if it wins me game one.

Linvala, the Preserver is too slow for this deck IMHO, and she fits better in a 25-26 land deck. I have Ojutai's Command in the main and Blessed Alliance in the side for life gain if needed, and I generally should have more creatures than the opponent, unless they are hyper-aggressive (in which case I wouldn't want a 6-drop in my hand). Control/Superfiends deck want her, not a tempo deck.

+1 Nice deck, have been trying to make a spirit deck as well. Question, what do you think of Turn Aside?

What does it do that Essence Flux doesn't do better for this deck? The only times I'd prefer Turn Aside is when I'm attacking for lethal or when I have a card exiled by Spell Queller. On the other hand, you can use Essence Flux to:

  1. Remove your creature from combat.
  2. Bounce a creature by blinking your Reflector Mage.
  3. Replace the card under Spell Queller and boost it.
  4. Grant all your creatures Indestructible by blinking Archangel Avacyn  Flip.
  5. Boost your Mausoleum Wanderer by blinking another spirit, or itself, and counter an instant or sorcery unless the opponent pays 2 instead of 1.

ok thank you sorry wasn't really recommending it, just putting it out there and asking a fellow spirit players about it.

Only thing i'd recommend is Stasis Snare vs emrakul decks, although summary dismissal probably does work better.

Summary Dismissal and Ojutai's Command both do great/fair work respectively against Emrakul, the Promised End and Ishkanah, Grafwidow. Kozilek's Return is a problem, but we do have Selfless Spirit and Archangel Avacyn  Flip against it. I'm not playing Stasis Snare until Dromoka's Command rotates: my meta is full of Bant CoCO.

To be fair, I have yet to play against an Emerge or Delirium deck.

Nice Deck,So what will your option be for OG Command replacement. Seems to cripple the deck a hair without it.

Spinifex says... #16

At the moment, I've got nothing, except Stasis Snare, which is a very poor replacement. I expect that Blue will get some nice new counterspells in Kaladesh, once Baby Jace will be gone.

Not to mention that a lot of other decks are going to get even more crippled which is why this deck will be better. Dromoka's Command and Collected Company to be specific. Since both of those cards are the best cards in the format right now.

and they got rekt by Emrakul, the Promised End mate!

August 29, 2016 3:12 p.m.

mack10k says... #19

Well yes and no. Bant Company is still 5 out of the 8 last top 8 major event and tied for 1st in another with decks that have Emrakul, the Promised End in them.

which event? saw Eldritch moon pro tour and 5 decks had emrakul, 2 bant company and 1st was the one black/white control deck.

There have been several SCG events and Grand Prix since the Pro Tour. The Pro Tour decks have not had as much impact in those events, since players have seen and adapted to these. The mana symbol bmana symbol g Delirium deck and mana symbol bmana symbol w Control deck are probably tier 1, but the mana symbol gmana symbol r Delirium and Temerge decks have not been so lucky.

In fact, the most popular deck that appeared at the Pro Tour is the mana symbol rmana symbol u Fevered Visions deck, which didn't make the top 8!

Bant Company is still solidly tier 1 and is still the deck to beat for this standard. Not being ready for it will cost you.

August 30, 2016 3:13 p.m.

mack10k says... #24

Bant company is still the boogey man in the format. It is explosive and has utility for days. I don't think any deck right now has that kind of capability. I cannot wait until the format changes, it's going to be interesting to see which decks are out on top after Collected Company and Dromoka's Command leave the format. I for one am going to be playing a deck much like this, with Stasis Snare and counter magic being able to take care of Emrakul, the Promised End. I am hoping that Seasons Past will be a good deck as well. But without a tutor I doubt it very much.

So with Ojutai's Command rotating soon do you have anything you intend to replace it with yet? Or are you still hoping on something from the next set?
