I'm hoping for something else in the new set, otherwise it's going to be a couple of Stasis Snare or Unsubstantiate.

Hey there, really like the deck :) What matchup would you side in Gideon, Ally of Zendikar ? And what would you take out ?

He comes in against control decks and delirium decks, mainly as a tool to recover from Languish and his emblem to protect against Liliana, the Last Hope. I would take out the Nebelgast Herald and Reflector Mage for Gideon and Negate.

So you got a cool U/W walker.

Too bad he the opposite of aggressive.

Any chance of that Counter spell that bounces a permanent of yours replacing the Command?

September 14, 2016 7:37 a.m.

Spinifex says... #7

Nope, I don't really see it. If it had cost two, sure. But not 1UU.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It could have been playable at 2. you could do some interesting things with it for sure.

You can abuse Rattlechains or Topplegeist with it, or even possibly Nebelgast Herald or Archangel Avacyn  Flip (the cost is getting up there however), but in most cases an Essence Flux will be more interesting in your hand.

Amazing Deck man, I have won tournaments because of you. I have found however that having 2 [blessed alliance] in the deck works amazingly because life gain and the opponents sacs a creature. I have also found that adding [uninvited guest] works great too because you now how a unblock-able creature on the field which really helps take the focus off of your main spirits. Let me know what you think.

Thanks man. I prefer Declaration in Stone, since we are more of an aggressor and want to pass through their defenders. Blessed Alliance is great against aggressive decks, which is why it's in the sideboard for me.

Uninvited Geist  Flip is an interesting addition. Not particularly a fan (it never did what I wanted it to do in limited), but a good idea nonetheless, if it works for you.

Now, as for rotation, the only card I lose is Ojutai's Command. It's a big loss, but survivable, since it's only 2 copies. However, I have not seen cards I want to include right now. There are a couple of good Blue counterspells, but I think I'm going toward a more aggressive build, lowering the mana cost and going from 24 to 23 lands. What I am thinking right now for the deck post rotation is:

Two weeks to go to rotation.

After looking at new cards, interested in Fumigate because the life gain can help, Authority of the consuls to slow opponent and get in some life gain (and i mean, its only a 1 drop), Ceremonious Rejection for the sideboard, Glimmer of Genius because of instant speed and scry, Revolutionary Rebuff i will run, and considering Select for Inspection.

Spinifex says... #13

The problem with Select for Inspection is the "tapped" clause, otherwise I would run it. You want to remove potential blockers in a tempo deck, not attackers IMHO.

Played against a UB zombies as well, the Voldaren Pariah  Flip they ran surprised and hurt me , needed Stasis Snare for that 1. 1 game just turned up to a straight up race between mausoleums/selfless spirits and his relentless deads/cryptbreaker.

I know thats why im stil iffy about it, but i do like the scry. But of course, with tapped clause i will still be running Immolating Glare or Blessed Alliance instead.

I got to play a deck quite like this last night. It plays really well for sure. Always Watching really is a game winner.

I'm also thinking about 2x Topplegeist and 2x Smuggler's Copter to smooth down the mana curve, probably in exchange to a Reflector Mage or two, a Declaration in Stone and a Nebelgast Herald.

September 27, 2016 2:33 p.m.

RyuujiTakasu says... #18

Topplegeist aren't really worth it, their useless played turn 1 and are really only good with a Rattlechains. Smuggler's Copter is good though, also thought about running Fleetwheel Cruiser for the surprise damage and to be 4 drop in the deck.

September 27, 2016 9:33 p.m.

Spinifex says... #19

Yes, Topplegeist is not great, but I wanted to lower the curve (too much 3 drops), and it works just fine with Always Watching and Smuggler's Copter. I will test it, even if I'm not sure about it.

September 27, 2016 9:39 p.m.

Topplegeist isn't great, but paired with the rest of the deck makes for interesting blow-outs especially with Nebelgast Herald + Rattlechainsand any ETB affects. I do like it with the smuggler but not sure with the equipment.

September 28, 2016 8:53 p.m.

Insidious Will I believe would make a good replacement to ojutai, just in the fact that it still basically does the same thing minus the returning of creatures.
It is however able to keep all you dudes in play against sweepers and blanket burn and even certain creatures (I.E. GearHulks)

Would you consider running 4 neblegast heralds, and 2 reflector mages? Thoughts?

September 29, 2016 12:40 p.m.

Spinifex says... #23

Yes, in this deck, Nebelgast Herald is generally better.

September 29, 2016 9:25 p.m.

RyuujiTakasu says... #24

Won a match against a modern infect deck with Nebelgast Herald and Spell Queller lol. Tapped out the infect attackers and countered the buff spells.

September 29, 2016 11:13 p.m.

So elder-fiend didn't work for the deck?
