Woh ! That's cute sale, wp :P

Ok, so you decided to cut AW and graft and move just one copy on side ? I was not waiting for that, as that seemed to be your mark. Aw is usefull vs Liliana, and against thopters token of Pia Nalaar and opponent Smuggler's Copter. A third copy of Gideon allow us to use his -4 without regret, so that is very strong and can justifie your decision to keep just one copy of AW on sideboard.

Yep, Skywhaler's Shot, very cool add. Solid with scry. So the copter for loot and this removal to scry. It is more consistant now.

Blessed Alliance. Is it here, in 3 copies more, just against mirror match-up or it has more utility ?

Thank you very much for your answer about my questions. I see more now my bad inclusions and remove also the fiend. I really like how you build

Yes, I went with Gideon over Always Watching specifically because of the flexibility: I can 0 or -4 when it comes into play, depending on the opponent's deck. I was running a 2/2 split between the two, and I guess I could go 3/1 in the main, but something has to be cut, preferably at 3 CMC...

Blessed Alliance is: 1. A super-Negate against Burn and aggro (gain 4 life negates their burn and sacrifice an attacking creature is great against them). 2. A way of playing around Blossoming Defense in RG Pummeler.

It was great last week and allowed me to win 2 match-ups.

Thoughts on Collective Effort ? Really love the deck :)

I thought about it (and collected a playset), but whenever I had it in limited, it always felt rather bad to have in hand. The 4 Power clause misses so many threats (Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet, Ishkanah, Grafwidow, Tireless Tracker, Toolcraft Exemplar, Veteran Motorist, Depala, Pilot Exemplar, etc.) while the sorcery speed means vehicles are safe from it.

Also, Enchantments? What are those? (ok, it's good against Stasis Snare, but precious few other enchantments are played at the moment).

I might put one in the sideboard, eventually. Don't hold your breath.

3rd smugglers copter for always watching?

October 18, 2016 12:45 p.m.

Spinifex says... #6

I simply don't know. I might cut an Essence Flux, Nebelgast Herald, Reflector Mage, Always Watching , or even Avacyn or Gideon. I just know I don't want to touch the 1 and 2 drops, since they are so powerful and fit well in the curve with the scooter.

Thanks for all your feedback :) What's your experience with Essence Flux been ? Is there a reason you're only running 2 ? I have 4 in the main. Would like to get your thoughts on it, thanks

It's been ok to great, depending on the matchup and the removal played. Most of the time, it cancelled a targeted removal spell by either blinking the creature or by blinking Rattlechains to grant another spirit hexproof (generally when a Selfless Spirit or Spell Queller was targeted). Second most used mode was blinking a Reflector Mage or Nebelgast Herald to bounce or tap a creature. Something that campe up sometimes is "upgrading" a Spell Queller by blinking in in response to a spell and allowing the opponent to cast the first spell (which should be less harmful, of course).

As for why only 2, because I want to see them sometimes, not often, and never in multiples. I've often died with one in hand and no creature to play it on.

I will probably be playing a BG Delirium deck (link below) at this week's FNM, but I'll play this deck at Game Day of course.

Great ! Give us your feedback/results for your gameday Oh and edit also your deck description, for the time :P

Ragham says... #11

Ok. Thank you for feedback. Maybe that's not for nothing that players are not playing spirit wih U/W colors. What is your plan now after lessons you had ? Can you consider playing more tempo, more midrange by adding some counterspells and/or draw for example ? By remove mausoleum wanderer for thraben inspector ? Or any idea to keep your archetype aggro efficient ?

It's one bad day. I still have a 12-3 record and UW is still favored against Temur Aetherworks, which beat me game 1. I sided badly and didn't draw the spells I needed, or had the mana needed to be able to play two counterspells on a single turn. As for the Bant aggro deck, it was very similar to mine; the mirror match is not a good sign of the place of a deck in the metagame.

I'll still play the deck, but I'll have changes to make. I can go the same way as the Pro Tour decks, but I like Nebelgast Herald too much. I'll have to test a bit before deciding what to play.

Spinifex says... #13

After a bit of testing. I believe Bant might be the way to go. Tamiyo, Field Researcher is a beast, and green has the best card drawer in standard, Tireless Tracker.

Ragham says... #14

I am agree with that. Green color provides much more. We have access at land-creature and fastland. I was wondering so much with U/W colors, now let's find the correct formule for an original bant spirit deck ? With objective is to beat R/W vehicles, W/U flash and B/G delirium

Ragham says... #15

tell me what do you think about Identity Thief ? I was testing this guy and it does some cool tricks. He exiles a creatures until next end turn, so it removes some counters, land-creatures, annoying side cards like weaver lightning and play with another creature tricks like kalitas etc. It may keep style of our deck (I feel just lol at thinking he can copy a ulamog/colossus/emrakul and exile it, and more they have not etb effect :p)

October 25, 2016 4:10 p.m.

Spinifex says... #16

Identity Thief is terrible. It's a four-drop that does nothing when it enters the battlefield and does nothing if there is not another creature on the board. The effect is very nice, yes, but mostly for limited, where board stalls are the norm, rather than the exception.

With 4-drops, always remember the golden rule: "Would I run this over Gideon, Ally of Zendikar?

As for Bant, I tested it a bit and when it works, it works great. However... the Shard mana base is really bad, with most dual lands coming in tapped. You run 4 Botanical Sanctum, 4 Aether Hub, 4 Evolving Wilds, a couple of Lumbering Falls and then what? You REALLY don't want the Shadowlands, and the Battlelands are going to come in tapped until at least turn 5-6.

That's the reason we see Wedge aggro decks (Mardu Vehicles) and not Shard ones: 8 fastlands are easy to run when your curve stops at 3-4.

I really want to play Tamiyo, Field Researcher, but until I can make a reliable mana base, it's not happening.

I back to you, what kind of magic is doing Smuggler's Copter for you ? More I play it, less I am satisfied strangely

I had a lot of fun with this deck! I put Thalia in my sideboard to substitute smuggler's copter and liked her better. Thalia with Nebelgast Herald really reduced my opponents ability to block. I did not find Gideon to have much value in my match ups so I took him out and played a full set of Always Watching. That card's amazing in this deck! Went 3-1 at FNM last night.

Spinifex says... #20

Oh, man, Ragham, you woke me up! I have to disable the tappedout notifications.

Smuggler's Copter is doing 4 great things for Spirits:

  1. It is something to play on turn 2 (and lowers our curve).
  2. It filters the cards you don't need and allow you to reach the cards you do need faster.
  3. It practically grants your Spirits haste.
  4. It allows you to punch through defenders (I'm looking at you, Glint-Nest Crane).

It is not as good in Spirits as it is in other aggro strategies (it grants evasion to those), but there is simply no 2 drop you'd rather have over it, Rattlechains and Selfless Spirit.

Thalia, Heretic Cathar, uh? I never really considered her outside of Human-based strategies. I believe she is great against creature based decks, but mostly in a more aggressive deck than this one. Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is there against control decks, or as an Anthem, and won me quite a few games by himself. I might just cut the Always Watching for the 4th Gideon.

tried a similar spirit deck at last FNM, although more budget at $150. 3-1 got 4th, cool being only spirit deck they ever had there lol. Deck did well except for when lands were being weird, ran at 23 and I either got mana screwed hard (lost 1 round because all i could hit was spells, and had to mulligan to 5 for 2 games) or flooded when i really needed those creatures. Guess just bad luck those games ._.?

October 29, 2016 3:39 p.m.

Spinifex says... #22

Variance. At 24 lands, I also sometimes get mana screwed or flooded. I thought about going up to 25 at various points, but it seems I flood a bit too much at that point.

I like to say, in limited: "I flood at 15 [lands] and I am screwed at 17. What do I have to do to get a good game?"

Hi @spinifex ! How do you do now in tournaments ? For me this deck is really strong and win easely by himself almost any match-up. I still have only 2 gideon and copter, so I decide to play with 2 negates instead essence flux and cut all Always watching. Essence flux is strong but Negate hits larger threats. And problem of AW is when I play it I'm already ahead and I am not happy to draw it. I need to draw more usefull card. Sure that in comparaison, Gideon is top :D

I would to know again your opinion about this turn one, mausoleum wanderer. I run Thraben Inspector instead because it's a draw with a body. I think that main interest of wanderer is to work as small negate, thanks to flash spirits. He deals mostly only 1 damage and has hidden ability to loose my game when I draw him later in game. Our deck has just loot ability of copter for draw.

Talking about loot, I add 1x Geier Reach Sanitarium. One more tool to have a better answer, especially when we have 0-1 card in hand. As our deck is playing by flash, I find intuitive to use sanitarium's ability on opponent's turn, draw then discard a land and play our answer. It may mill 1 if opponent has 0 cards more.

It's been 3 weeks since I last played this deck, since Magic comes after work, my GF and gym. I intend to play it tomorrow.

I've had a lot of fun with my Delirium deck, playing some very intense games.

I like the little spirit that could! Yeah, Mausoleum Wanderer is actually better in Modern than standard, but I found out people underestimate him and allowed for some blow out, especially if you flash in a spirit and counter a spell that they thought they had enough mana for. It slow down spell heavy deck and especially decks that run Sorcery-based fetches, like Attune with Aether in Energy decks and Traverse the Ulvenwald with Delirium decks (especially if they kept a one-lander, thinking that they would use those spell). That said, I've been thinking about removing one for a maindeck Revolutionary Rebuff. In fact, I might just try that tomorrow.

As for Thraben Inspector, she is better, unless you run Nebelgast Herald. I also havd had a couple of 3x Mausoleum Wanderers hands. You swing for 3 turn 2 and 6 turn 3.

As for utility lands, I don't like Geier Reach Sanitarium unless you have Madness cards. I used to run Blighted Cataract and, while it did save me a couple of times, if you get up to 7 mana, things are going bad for you.

Ragham says... #25

Thank you for your answer Spinifex. That is interesting reflexion about wanderer. You don't care about draw, you prefer counter. And you are still happy to draw him later in game. I totally underestimate him yes -I don't play modern- because it wasn't natural for me to flash a spirit in response to instant, like a Nebelgast, just for a +1/+1 to wanderer and not to use nebelgast's ability (like in situation of end of your turn). In purpose to counter a Traverse or Attune, especially if opponent keep several untapped land, just to slow/freeze him. So doing a action like that is worth... I take notes :)

You consider add Rebuff ? not Negate ? And for players who have not 4 gideon or 3 copter (very expensive cards), should you them to add Rebuff too ?
