Maybeboard

Primer in progress

Reaper King is a strong 5-color commander that so far has worked wonders with the artifact shenanigans I'm going for here. It's triggered ability allows for some amazing land destruction that can either completely demoralize a casual opponent or seriously stall someone more experienced long enough to get some of your other more serious combos going.

At its core, Reaper King is a pretty casual commander, and I really don't ever see it working well against higher-tier decks and combo fiends like Kess, Zur, etc. Against the typical kitchen table or LGS deck, however, this thing is a beast.

There are other commanders out there that can do the artifact theme better than Reaper King - like the new Urza, or Breya, or even the Jhoira that we use in this very deck. If you're going to run Reaper King, you have to both want and embrace the scarecrow - you have to on some level see some value in it's nuts vindicate ability, and divide your attention between him and the artifact shenanigans. You have to want to make them fear the Reaper.

Karn, the Great Creator + Mycosynth Lattice is complete opponent lockout. They can't tap any of their permanents, including lands. In non-competitive groups, you can even use Karn to tutor Mycosynth Lattice with his +3, which is super nuts.

Pili-pala and Grand Architect (sideboard - recommended replace with Saheeli, Sublime Artificer) create infinite mana.

One of our major wincons (though executed a bit sloppily in this deck) is Mechanized Production. You can use a variety of means to trigger this win, though most of the easiest methods involve Myr Battlesphere. You can use stuff like Rite of Replication, Mimic Vat, Mirrorworks, Cackling Counterpart etc. to clone our Myr Battlesphere and create dozens of Myr Artifact creature tokens. You can use stuff like Darksteel Forge, Padeem, Consul of Innovation, Hanna's Custody (Sideboard), etc. to protect these bad boys until your next upkeep. Eerie Interlude also helps.

Ugin, the Ineffable, Foundry Inspector, Etherium Sculptor, Jhoira's Familiar all help you cheat out artifacts for free, for a total of -4 mana discount for artifacts. Urza's Incubator increases this for your scarecrows by another 2, for a total of -6 for most scarecrows. Once you are able to get Saheeli, the Gifted out, everything is pretty much free unless your board state has been demolished by your opponents.

Kicked Rite of Replication targeting Reaper King triggers 25 of Reaper King's vindicates. It is good to know that you can target the same permanent with multiple of these triggers, meaning if your opponent only has three targetable permanents on the field, you can use two triggers for the first two, and the remaining 23 on the third.

Time Sieve + Thopter Assembly, when used correctly, creates infinite turns if not stopped.

Saheeli, Sublime Artificer is pretty much only in the deck because I have the alternate japanese art for it. The card itself helps a bit, but not really enough to justify its use over some of the cards in our maybeboard (or perhaps even an extra land).

While I have been really reluctant to swap out scarecrows (fun fact - this deck initially featured nearly every legal scarecrow in the format), you'd probably be safe swapping out a few scarecrows for some of the stronger cards in our maybeboard. I guess it's a good idea to see our scarecrows as a pretty much free vindicate, with the added bonus of being Kudrotha Forgemaster or Time Sieve fodder, as well as having some interactions with some of the tribal elements still present elsewhere in the deck. There is a good chance that I will eventually build the deck without most of the scarecrows.
