After seeing the spoilers for Khans of Tarkir I knew control wasn't dead in standard. Control used to be U/B/W Esper, but thanks to Khans it has shifted to B/G/W Junk. So I put this deck together in anticipation of the new set.

The Theros Block gives us access to cards like;

• Thoughtseize which is a Modern staple for hand disruption.
• Hero's Downfall which is great for getting Planeswalkers off the field.
• Elspeth, Sun's Champion which is a great Planeswalker when you are playing control because she can keep your battlefield full of 1/1 blockers.
• The Scry temples like Temple of Malady and Temple of Silence.
• Fleecemane Lion, great creature early game and continues to be relevant mid to late game because of its monstrosity making it incredibly difficult to get rid of.
• Reaper of the Wilds , good for mid to late game, difficult to get rid of and very useful the scry ability.
• Sylvan Caryatid, best mana dork N/A, 0/3 with hexproof makes it hard to get rid of.
• Banishing Light which is a function reprint of Oblivion Ring.
• Silence the Believers which is great for dealing with Voltron decks when they stack all those bestow enchantments on one creature.
• Deicide which is the best way to deal with God cards.
• Dictate of Erebos which is a good sideboard card to help maintain board control.
• Eidolon of Rhetoric, to stifle quick combo decks.
• Mana Confluence is a functional reprint of City of Brass.
• Drown in Sorrow which is great for clearing the field of token creatures.
• Mistcutter Hydra, great if you are going up against a blue deck.
• Spirit of the Labyrinth to deny card draw.

M15 gives us access to cards like;

• The Pain lands Llanowar Wastes and Caves of Koilos.
• Hushwing Gryff, great for canceling entry effects.
• Phyrexian Revoker is the creature version of Pithing Needle.
• Return to the Ranks fits in well with this deck because 10 out of the 14 creatures are CMC 2.

And Now the Elephant in the Room, Khans of Tarkir

• Rakshasa Deathdealer is an amazing card, I can even see it getting play in Modern. It can buff and regenerate itself and its a 2/2 for a green and a black.
• End Hostilities is great for clearing the board, not as good as Supreme Verdict but still pretty good.
• Utter End because instant speed removal, what other reason do you want?
• Sorin, Solemn Visitor goes well with Elspeth, Sun's Champion and her 1/1 soldiers.
• Fetch lands like Windswept Heath, yes please! Now these cards are also Modern legal, they were printed in Onslaught and this is a much needed reprint.
• Murderous Cut is the new big and better Doom Blade, just make sure to use the Delve mechanic.
• Ugin's Nexus because this is a control deck and Sage of Hours is a thing.

Fun Combos in this deck

• Naturalize + Ugin's Nexus , sure I'll take another turn.
• Elspeth, Sun's Champion + Sorin, Solemn Visitor , because its "lifelink and +1/0 until your next turn", and that plus three 1/1 soldiers is good.
• Fleecemane Lion + Return to the Ranks or Rakshasa Deathdealer + Return to the Ranks or Return to the Ranks + Sylvan Caryatid
