The general theme of this deck is to gain a consistent and sustainable control of the creature boardstate using several combos as described below:
Agent of the Fates
+ Artful Dodge, Hidden Strings (it can be targeted without being tapped to trigger heroic),
Aqueous Form
, or
Gigadrowse
(in emergencies) to force sacrifices.
Shipwreck Singer
+
Typhoid Rats
, Vampire Nighthawk, or Royal Assassin to force a poor attack.
Royal Assassin +
Shipwreck Singer
,
Hands of Binding
,
Gigadrowse
, or Hidden Strings to force some stabbing action.
General purpose of cards not including main combos:
Vampire NighthawkBesides being a solid card in itself, the flying can make a good place for a cypher as well as the deathtouch and lifelink hopefully diverting enemy control from the combo generating creatures.
Aqueous Form
makes a cool 2 life + 1 scry a turn in case a combo wasn't set up already.
Hands of Binding
can stall and keep indestructable or protective creatures at bay until a sacrifice can be forced.
Gigadrowse
has the added utility of, when casting at an enemy's untap step, either forcing them to use a counter or relinquish some of their ability to cast spells during your next turn.
Hidden Strings can be cast for free, providing a mana pool is present, to keep up tempo and make it easier to cypher and hit for unblockable to cast again.
Other Boards:
Alluring Siren
(To swap with
Shipwreck Singer
) has less utility than
Shipwreck Singer
And is easier to deal with, but is more useful in multiplayer games as well as making earlier game combos easier on the mana.
Dimir Cutpurse (To swap with Vampire Nighthawk) can generate some serious card advantage, and since the deck is already somewhat focused on getting combat damage to players, the opportunity seems present. It would still retain Vampire Nighthawk's ability to draw enemy attention, but I fear it could compete with
Agent of the Fates
for getting targeted spells. It does possess a seriously sexy combo with
Aqueous Form
, though.
Ideally the deck would contain a playset of Sunken Ruins, but that was out of my price range.
Feedback is welcome regarding Dimir Cutpurse or anything else.
