I hate netdecking and my favorite package in Standard is
Hateful Eidolon
,
Dead Weight
/
Mogis's Favor
/
Mire's Grasp
,
Aphemia, the Cacophony
and
Tymaret Calls the Dead
. It leads to fun interaction and a lot of value. The creature-based match ups are extremely strong and the control match ups are surprisingly winnable. Right now I play a good amount of Standard with BW, UB, and GB enchantment decks (all on my profile) because I love these cards so much. Here's my BW version:
1-Drops:
Hateful Eidolon
- So much value for a 1-drop. I often don't run it out on turn 1 if I can follow it up immediately with an aura later. Becomes a must remove threat against creature decks. A very common play pattern, especially against control decks, is to put
Mogis's Favor
on it to have a 3-power lifelinker that will draw a card when it dies.
Dead Weight
- Kills a lot of relevant creatures in the format, great value if it's drawing card and triggering constellation.
Mogis's Favor
- The more I've played with these decks the more I've appreciated this card. With decks milling us (Rogues) or making us discard (Kroxa), value from the graveyard is clutch. Also, against weenie decks or Anax tokens, for example, it's a repeatable removeable spell that can draw us cards and trigger constellation. I rarely exile it from the graveyard with Aphemia or Tymaret Calls unless there's multiples in there.
2-Drops:
The Birth of Meletis
- Great value. Hits land drops, provides a blocker, gains some life, triggers constellation, naturally goes to the graveyard. Literally all big perks for this deck.
Aphemia, the Cacophony
- I think this is a very underrated card. It's easy to fuel in this deck and drawing multiples is fine because they fuel each other.
Mire's Grasp
- Kills lots of stuff and fuels all the enchantment synergy.
3-Drops:
Tymaret Calls the Dead
- Lots of value, stocks the graveyard, goes to the graveyard, and even the tokens and lifegain are extra relevant in this deck.
Skyclave Apparition
- Really the only card that doesn't strongly synergize with the deck, but it's just one of the best cards in standard and is necessary for answering noncreature threats. Also fuels Tymaret Calls the Dead.
Heliod, Sun-Crowned
- There is a pretty good amount of incidental lifegain, and obviously the enchantment synergy. Admittedly, I am a big fan of playing one-ofs, so there could be 0-3 of these in an optimized build.
Omen of the Sun
- Enchantment, lifegain, and token synergy are all relevant. Not the strongest card but I'm trying it out.
Sparring Regimen
- Another card I'm trying out. It feel powerful to have access to a lesson-board in BO1. Enchantment synergy is nice and there's generally at least one token lying around to be growing.
4-Drops:
Archon of Sun's Grace
- This is a pretty ideal build for this card, since you can often follow it up with a 1-mana enchantment, or 2-3 enchantments the next turn. The lifelink and tokens play extra roles in the deck too. It's so satisfying when mono-red opponents scoop to this.
Dramatic Finale
- I initially just tried this out for fun, but it's been very strong. Pumping all zombie and pegasus tokens is strong, gives us value when our core creatures die, triggers constellation, and automatically turns on Heliod's devotion.
5-Drops+:
Elspeth Conquers Death
- Just super strong, answers things like
Embercleave
, awesome if it reanimates an Archon.
Agadeem's Awakening
- I have cast this for 7 and returned an Eidolon, Aphemia, Heliod, and Archon, which also made 3 pegasus tokens. Absurd. Generally hit land drops in this deck with card draw engines, land count, and
The Birth of Meletis
Emeria's Call
- Worthwhile free roll. Minor token synergy but mostly it's just great to have the flexibility.
Great Hall of Starnheim
- This isn't an aggro deck, but the curve is low enough, so I don't mind playing some taplands. The value from this is real, as upgrading a Birth token or any of our random tokens to an angel is awesome. Once I sacrificed a
Hateful Eidolon
with a
Mogis's Favor
on it with
Dramatic Finale
in play so I drew a card and got a 3/2 spirit and a 5/5 angel. The opponent scooped.
This isn't an aggro deck, so I don't like to play enhancing auras, although
Demonic Embrace
could be worth trying. Some other things you could try would be
Alseid of Life's Bounty
,
Rune of Sustenance
/
Rune of Mortality
,
Lurrus of the Dream-Den
,
Inevitable End
,
Daxos, Blessed by the Sun
,
Banishing Light
,
Faith's Fetters
,
Felidar Retreat
,
Elspeth's Nightmare
,
Treacherous Blessing
,
Nightmare Shepherd
. Fun flexibility to play the cards you like.
Otherwise the mana base is fine, could be adjusted in lots of ways, but works fine for me. Ideal to have as many dual lands as possible, since we need double white and often play multiple cheap black spells in a turn. Just don't cut too many plains while playing Birth and
Fabled Passage
.
The lesson-board is flexible, but these seem like the most reasonable inclusions. I haven't got to do it yet, but
Mascot Exhibition
with
Dramatic Finale
would be awesome!
If you try out the deck, let me know what you think!
