Sideboard

UPDATE: Thanks, all, for your votes, feedback and test results. This deck was fun to work with and to play. With rotation coming up, I am no longer updating this deck. For week one, at least, of Battle for Zendikar, I will be running an "Atarka Red" style aggro deck. Come check it out:

Again, thanks for helping tune this deck into the killing machine it became.

This current deck is an update of the deck I was playing earlier (Standard Red Aggro ORI). The changes are based off of my own testing and play with this archetype, plus articles by Frank Karsten and Pat Cox. This archetype won the most recent Pro Tour, is doing very well on MtGO, and got me Top 8 at the latest Game Day. If the metagame shifts and suddenly Searing Blood no longer has targets, then this deck may need serious reconsideration. Apart from that, it should remain competitive until the next set is released.

Strategic Overview

Cast early creatures and get beating ASAP. Use early burn spells to clear a path and/or to preempt trouble (e.g. by killing mana dorks, coursers, etc.), but then switch to burn-to-the-dome when that strategy is no longer optimal. By the way, that switch from beat to burn should happen a lot sooner than many players new to this deck seem to think is natural. This is, more than any red deck in the past little while, a burn deck at least as much as it is an aggro deck.

Tactical Notes

Lightning Berserker - Cast early if it's all you've got, but in general you want to be holding one of these in reserve for after a board wipe. Treat it as a player-only burn spell with buyback more than as a creature.

Abbot of Keral Keep - Play on turn two if you have no other option, otherwise hold it until at least turn three. Also, don't play land until after casting Abbot.

Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh   - Cast her when you have a reasonable expectation of flipping her on the following turn.

Important notes about the mirror-match...

When given the choice, opt to draw first, not play first. These matches are usually about trading card for card, burn for creature, etc., and the extra card will make the difference more often than the extra tempo, especially if you conscientiously play the control role until it is time to switch to beatdown.

Remember that you do not have to announce play/draw decision until after sideboarding is over and decks have been shuffled and presented. So after you win a game, use the "Draw vs. Red Aggro" sideboard plan. And after you lose a game, you have to evaluate whether or not your opponent will also choose to draw, so that you know whether or not to sideboard for draw or play.
