I would add 1 or 2 Gray Merchant of Asphodel just because of the decent devotion you have going on here, plus at a 5-6turn it's going get harder and harder to swing though for a win, Even if you Mini-bob into him he should be a positive life gain when you cast him that turn.

I would not run gift in the main board for any reason, why do you need as an aggressive deck to gain life???

Add in 3 Master of the Feast for that necessary punch. Do not add gary in here, even in the SB, you do not have the necessary devotion for him at all. I would even go to run Boon of Erebos main to counter removal.

I like the idea of Master of the Feast, he'll most likely replace Gary as a 2 of in the side board but I'm sceptical about boon. I'm not doubting it's applications, but there have been far too many games where a lifelinked Tormented Hero has stopped me from dying to a Herald of Torment or Pain Seer trigger. This deck is aggressive, but it's not fast, just disruptive. Plus, the lifelink isn't the only reason for running Gift, evasion and a, granted small, buff of +1/+1 has kept me in many games and swooped right over Elspeth's meta soldiers on several occasions. I may consider running Boon when Ravnica rotates away, but for now I think i'll be sticking with Gift. Thank you for the suggestion of Master however!

the deck is great, playtested against my U/B Mill deck. out of the 3 matches Master of the Feast was the win condtion. The only game my mill deck won was due to the infinite combo of Duskmantle Guildmage and Mindcrank

Loving this deck idea. I appreciate the fact you spent some time using Thero's Block only cards in order to create a still functional Mono-black aggro deck. Mono-black devotion will die a sad death this September. But Mono-Black aggro swings for the kill!

Devatrap, thanks a lot for your comment! I have to agree that Devotion is gonna get a kick in the teeth once Ravnica rotates.

Big up Thuzra and GoblinBushwacker for the +1's. Glad to be solid and inspiring :P

Maybe Ulcerate ? It's cheap instant removal for small things, weakens bigger things during combat so you CAN kill them, and it fits in with the whole suicide theme.

Angry_Potatoes: Whilst being a very early spat of removal, I feel that the life loss is too substantial for this deck to support. However, Doom Blade is rotating out so it may be the only suitable replacement for the near future so I'll consider running Ulcerate IF Khans has no better removal.

First, awesome deck. +1 I will be running some version of this deck for sure. What do you think of Whip of Erebos , maybe just 1, especially if you end up having to run ulcerate?

Nebulousone: It has been a big consideration of mine for quite some time, I require some more testing but, if Agent of the Fates turns out to be poor when boarding it in/I need more life gain against certain decks, then I will certainly put a pair in my sideboard.

I was also thinking that Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth might be good for the Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx so that you could also tap them for swamps. It's pretty cheap since the reprint.

Nebulousone: Yeah, I'm certainly going to run a one of as soon as I can find one! I don't think I'll end up running more as it could be an unfortunate thing to help out bug/junk/jund meta decks with fixing.

Sign in Blood or similar draw/lose life effects would be cool for this deck; goes along with the theme of suicide black and gives great card advantage

July 26, 2014 2:10 p.m.

MrOtter says... #18

Berksqerd: Much as I like Sign in Blood , I feel that unless Pain Seer becomes a regular issue, he's plenty card advantage enough. Plus, I've already unlocked the life achievement of killing someone with a sign in blood, so I don't need to live that dream.

Polluted Delta ? Really? Did you have blue in before?

BoardFire: Fetch lands for thinning. Gotta try guarantee those not-dead-draws!

APPLE01DOJ: Whilst I do love the card, I already draw plenty in this deck and, in comparison to my other three drops, it's just not aggressive enough. I may replace pain seers with it post rotation but that's a LONG way off and a suitable two drop would have to pop up to take it's place in the curve.

I like Ulcerate over Bile Blight

I don't think deck thinning is a relevant reason to add fetches, the shuffle because of them is a good effect though...

MrOtter says... #23

APPLE01DOJ: I've yet to actually test with the fetches so I have no idea if I like playing with them. On Ulcerate over Bile Blight , I have done quite a bit of testing and have come to the conclusion that I prefer the latter. There has never been a point where I have wanted a -3/-3 effect for one mana and three life. Dealing myself damage during games is inevitable with this deck, but a bolt to the face for a -3/-3 that I can get with Bile Blight (Plus more if they have the same named card) for one mana less than the aforementioned instant just doesn't seem worth it to me.

APPLE01DOJ says... #24

I just find 1 mana open a lot more often than I find 2. Better to play a creature and remove something than to play a creature or remove something.

I think a single Hall of Triumph may be worth playing.

Perhaps some Read the Bones instead of the scry temples. Despise will add some speed to the deck too.

September 13, 2014 5:48 p.m.

MrOtter says... #25

Taking the lands out isn't an option unfortunately. 22 is the bare minimum that this deck can fully function on. I do agree that Despise will certainly be a sideboard, maybe even mainboard, option, I am on the fence with the Hall. The anthem effect is certainly liked, but in the terms of playing it, I have no idea when I would do so.

Turns 3 is where I HAVE to be playing one of the fliers. If I don't have one to play, my chances of winning plummet.

Turn 4 is when bestowing Scarhides and Spitefuls should be occurring, or playing a second flier.

Turn 5 would be the earliest suitable turn to play the Hall, but by that point what is it doing? If it has enough creatures to buff, I'm already well on my way to winning and should be ensuring my victory with removal and more creatures/bestows. If there are not many creatures, Hall is much less useful and I'd much rather to be playing creatures to recover my board state.

Having said all of this, I have recently fallen out of favour with Brain Maggot as it just isn't aggressive enough. Such as it is, I will do some testing and see if there will indeed be a swap.

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions!
