Results of gameday dragons of tarkir —April 18, 2015
Match 1 Game 1 straight blue white control. First game he clears the board with banishing light and counters and finishes me with ojutai. second game I hit him with multiple knuckles. Last game I get him down to 3 during turns, and my final turn was just short of killing him, my online xenagos would have gotten there as well. Control decks are good at tying even though I was sooooo close. (Maybe should have conceded game one faster) So 1 1 1 for a tie
Match 2 Is a Craig Wescoe's Bant raptor den protector deck. Game one on the play smash in with some monsters and crater's claws. Game two is elvish mystic into knuckles turn two and hasty knuckles turn 4. After that is was a quick cleanup.
Match 3 is against a blue green morph ghostblade deck with den protectors raptors and the blue counter int/sorc morpher. Wrecks me both games in the air. Definitely should have brought in angers against him, but had no idea what was going on after game one. Countermagic seemed bad too... arbor collossus maybe? Plummet?
Match four is B/U control and I won 2-0 off the power of knuckle blade and two drops, and stubborn denial. Craters claws and lightning strike finish him off respectfully.
Match Five is once more blue black control. Xenagos held down the fort here, as did stubborn denial, but otherwise the threats were interchangeable. He gets game 2 by dragonlording my boon satyr when he's at 2 and I'm out of gas, but the other two games I win with hasty knuckles and one game by boon satyring bestow twice. 3-1-1 but 6 rounds means 10 pts doesnt get me top 8.
Match 6 offers the draw, as he's number 1 seed regardless, I unfortunately decline because that's as good as a loss for me. (7th in standings likely 9th after a draw) th nmHe's abzan midrange with lions, rhinos and removal. I think its the midrange version. I get very close to craters claws for lethal after den protecting for dragon #3, but double rhinos means its always one point short and his +1+1countered rhino tramples over for one to kill me.
3-2-1 and so close to top 8 and prizes. Ah well.
Takeaways: Polukranos kinda stinks. Thunderbreak regent, ashcloud phoenix or surrak huntcaller would all be better. Den protector overperformed. One game I won because I had a turn two play against control, denny got in for like 10 damage that game as I slammed threats after her who were always higher priority. I'm considering looking for 2 somewhere in the 75. Temur surrak was a slam dunk against control and awful against abzan and the blue green morph deck. Definitely need SB roast X2. I had a blast though!
