Just as you linked Chasm Skulker but put your deck's name between the brackets.
Do you need a full play-set of Languish? Could experiment with dropping 2 for 2 Chasms. With draw as the name of the game it's just a shame to not put him in.

I really do need all of the Languishes I can get my hands on. It is really cheap removal and works well to put off the pressure early game. If I could board five Languish I would. I agree it's a shame, and I can't help but feel bad for the poor squid horror, but I'll have to playtest with him later, and focus on perfecting this version.

For every body discussing Day's Undoing here, just know that it nonbos with like every other card due to it's shiny new end your turn clause... Modern would be where you abuse drawing 7 for anything other than refilling your hand. In regards to this deck specifically you should consider Jace's Sanctum or Alhammarret's Archive at a 1 of, you're playing so many instant's and sorceries that the sanctum could help you dig past lands when you don't need them and the archive sets up stupid card draw that combos nicely with Sphinx's Tutelage. Also have you considered maybe Mind Sculpt or Talent of the Telepath? They help with the overall theme of mill plus they can be played from your yard with the help of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy Flip. Since it stopped being budget why not Thoughtseize? Overall +1 like the idea, very similar to what I had in mind with a u/b scheme.

Thanks for the consideration ozzy4492, I absolutely completely 100% agree with the Day's Undoing. Sure it draws, but really it ends the turn and shuffles the graveyard back in, so, I'll have none of that. Alhammarret's Archive is interesting, and I'm not sure if it can find room here. I mean, I guess it would be replacing the Monastery Sieges if anything, and its casting cost is kind of high for this deck. I will definitely be considering it further, but for now, I wont be worrying about it especially. As for the Jace's Sanctum, I really like the card. The casting cost does not really bother me, because late game, this would be a powerhouse. I just don't know if there are quite enough instants and sorceries to make this worth it. We are running a few creatures, enchantments, and planeswalkers, so I really don't know. Maybe if I put it in, more instants and sorceries would be added. Mind Sculpt used to be a playset, but they were thrown out just because for two mana, at sorcery speed, better things could be cast. This type of mill strategy is not like burn, it's like control, so we need cards that advance out board state, not just outright dead damage. I am not a fan of Talent of the Telepath at all. It is four mana, and it forces the caster to target an opponent, so, it's completely unclear of whether or not, this will hit anything at all, and even if it does, is it worth it. Much too circumstantial for my liking. Thoughtseize would be a good inclusion I guess, it's just that I really don't want to spend the time to find its place in this deck when it's rotating out in a few months. And I don't own them, so I certainly don't want to be purchasing them. So really it just boils down to laziness... I'll try and get to it, and if I do, I'll let you know, thanks!

FRIDAY NIGHT MAGIC - JULY 18
For this FNM, I went 2-2, which is honestly way better than I thought I would. I'm glad to pronounce that this deck can be played somewhat competitively against other standard decks!
My first match was against an Azorious Heroic deck, which pumped out creatures way too fast for my liking. I was able to Reality Shift a threat away, and them Ultimate Price, but the protection spells got me, and I did not draw a Languish, which would have ruled here. And I did not draw a single Sphinx's Tutelage... or Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver. I lost both matches against this player.
My second match was against a Golgari Elves deck. Game 1 I lost because all I was drawing was spot removal like Reality Shift, which was awful against this deck. But game two, I drew a Languish and won. And I then won game three in the same way. It was fun.
My third match was against a Gruul Goblins deck with lots of Goblins, burn, and Atarka's Command. I swiftly lost both matches by not drawing into any wrath effects, plain and simple. I was easily overrun by the creatures and burn... not my shining hour.
My fourth match was against a Phenax Mill Deck, which was really awesome! Mill vs. Mill, which to win? To be fair, he only got two of his lands the first game, so I easily defeated him and milled him out. The second match, it was really close, and he missed a mill trigger and ended up losing because of that. I only had five cards left... a real nail biter. But I did prevail, and went 2-2 and walked home with 2 Magic Origins packs.

Tasigur would be really good in the deck that will help you not run out of gas and makes a great blocker

went 2/2 my first FNM with a deck similar to yours but with slight tweaks, and the matches I did lose (both against mono red goblins and one with dragons in the mix) went to game 3, so I was incredibly happy. I don't run any spot removal, but I run Dakra Mystic, Jeskai Sage and Palace Familiar all as a 4 of; Gives me creatures to block early on, and draw or the ability to set the top card of my deck. Run Jace, The living Guildpact to stack my deck, fuel treasure cruise and bounce any annoying permanents (banishing light, orbs of warding, etc. can be brutal on this deck) and 4 whelming wave and 3 crux of fate against aggro. Honestly for the time being, prefer wave over languish because against bigger creatures it still takes care of them and if I have a dark deal it means more card draw for them and the faster their deck is gone, that being said I'd run maybe 3 of each

forgot to mention, crux, wave and languish are all sideboard, not in the main deck for me

There was a really neat build of this at the Star City Games tournament that was U\G- it ran 8 fog spells, 4x Day's Undoing, 4 Monastery Siege, 4 Dictate of Kruphix, 3x AEtherspouts, a couple Orbs of Warding and a Alhammarret's Archive. You can find the deck-tech here:

It's a pretty neat take on the deck. He actually cast a Day's Undoing to reset both library's because he would have lost otherwise- and then wen't on to win. Was pretty impressive- as far as fog decks go:-)

I love the idea of sphinx's tutelage as a mill win con in a blue black control shell, I wanted/want to build this. I think game 2 you should either side in a ton of counterspells or side out the Sphinx's Tutelages and the cards that go with it (for example Dictate of Kruphix and side in a dragon package: some silumgars (both are good), some Foul-Tongue Invocation and Silumgar's Scorn, because people will side out all counterspells and side in all enchantment/permanent hate in. Its a hilarious plan!

Sorry for the absence everybody, I did not have access to a computer for a long time. Anyway, the deck has been holding up against lots of matches. Languish is truly a lifesaver!

How about Orbs of Warding for your SB? It is vary useful against the agro matchups and prevents burn to the face.

chessdude13, though Orbs of Warding is good for the sideboard, its useless against red deck wins. Still it is very useful against red-blue ensoul.
August 7, 2015 9:07 p.m.
IDK- red deck wins is running a ton of burn. 4 Exquisite Firecraft, 4 Stoke the Flames, 4 Lightning Strike, and 4 Wild Slash... I would suggest it's more useful vs RDW than Running with Scissors- which only runs Shrapnel Blast...

The game will be already over though, or very close to it, by the time orbs of warding comes out against both of those decks. For as long as those two decks dominate the meta, this will not be a competitive deck. That being said, if the meta shifts back towards midrange and control than this will be a good deck.

Works for the fog deck that I'm running just because they either need the creatures out to use stoke with little mana or attack with them thinking the latter. Also I run a bunch of life gain lands that help me withstand the early burn spells until i get the orbs out.

I'm working on my own standard mill deck, and so far this is what I have.
Standard Mill Attempt
If you get a chance, look it over.
