Hallowed_Titan says... #2

HardcorePawn, why? I feel like the sage is just faster ramp. More fragile but faster ramp.

Because courser is better. Like you have 17 ramp effects and that's all they are good for. Courser can help you hit land drops gain you quite a bit of life and just be a house against aggro strategies.

True, true.

But you dont need to hit land drops if you have ramp......

There's no way I'd remove sage in here. He's the key to those t3 crazy plays. Courser doesn't fit here at all. The ramp is more important than hitting land drops and you can safely play far better options to combat aggro than courser.

If you really want to do well against aggro just run Batterskull or Obstinate Baloth. Vigilance and lifelink is a potential 8 life gained every turn. Baloth is 4 on etb.

Wow man...first of all let me say I love this deck design. I am currently working on this same exact style. I hadn't thought of that alternate infect wincon though! Brilliant!

Here is my version of this deck: Inferno Deathcoil Behemoth

It runs a bit differently but overall to the same effect of just dropping huge stuff on the field that no one can deal with. I would love your thoughts on it!

The one thing I would recommend just because I see absolutely no downside to it would be drop your Farseek for Utopia Sprawl. This makes Arbor Elf tap for 2 mana and you can still mana fix for red by naming red.

I don't know how open you are to change or your play style but I feel like that is a great improvement to make. Feel free to use my deck as inspiration as I know I'm gonna use that infect wincon in my deck! One thing that is hard to spot if you look at my deck is that I can drop a turn 2 Primeval Titan with a perfect hand+draw. I know it is extremely rare but it is quite epic. I apologize this is a long combo to explain so sorry if you already know it:

Turn 1: Arbor Elf + Forest

Turn 2: Land drop: Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. - Tap Forest for Utopia Sprawl naming red. - Tap Arbor Elf to untap Forest. - Tap enchanted Forest for 2 green. - Cast Burning-Tree Emissary. - Tap Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for 4 green. - Cast Garruk Wildspeaker and +1 untapping Forest and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. - Tap Forest to pay for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for 6 green. - Cast Primeval Titan and bring in a Kessig Wolf Run and an Inkmoth Nexus!

In your deck and once I edit my deck this is ideal turn 3: Top deck a land and drop it. - Tap it to animate Inkmoth Nexus - Tap enchanted Forest to pay for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx for 8 green. - +1 Garruk Wildspeaker untapping Forest and Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. - Tap Forest to pay for Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx floating 8 more green bringing you to 16. - Tap Arbor Elf to untap enchanted Forest and use it to pay the GR cost on Kessig Wolf Run to give Inkmoth Nexus +16/+0 and trample - Swing a 17/1 flying infect trample Inkmoth Nexus turn 3 - GG.

Dude...This is ridiculous working with the infect wincon that I've been in the dark on. I love you!

You don't have a lot of trample. I would consider adding Blood or Lure etc. Im a big fan of gruul myself, but i dont like my creatures being blocked :)

"Not Gruul? Then die!"

May 21, 2015 2:04 p.m.

Bloodspawn, I don't need trample. My Titan has it and Wolf-Run can grant it when it is needed. Blood and lure effects have no spots in here(what would you remove for them?) that I can see.

GO GRUUL!!

Fetchlands and Lotus Cobra can make for a really explosive start.

Do you really need the alt win con I feel that if you drop prime time or even inferno Titan you should easily be ahead at that point since your fetching wolf run to kill them.

sunsleader - Alternate wincons are almost always a must in competitive modern. I have a Soul Sisters spinoff deck that is far from top-tier competitive but even it has a consistent turn 3 infinite life combo using Soul's Attendant/Soul Warden, Leonin Relic-Warder and Phyrexian Metamorph. I hit it 1 of 3 games and even when I don't the deck has just an incredible amount of life gain(20-40 per game) so poison counters and the Bloom Titan Hive Mind+Pact of Negation/Summoner's Pact are sometimes the only way to kill me if I don't stall out into a land flood.

That's fair ironically you mention bloom Titan which happens to be the deck I'm building at the moment.

July 17, 2015 5:21 p.m.

XTechNinjaX says... #17

sunsleader - Well...it is top chart at the moment but I hope to put an end to its reign. I would warn you that an issue with powerhouse decks like that is that a lot of modern players are either playing WITH it or building FOR it. Just keep Blood Moon in mind and best of luck. In my opinion there are better and more creative builds but bloom titan has somehow made it to number 1.

July 17, 2015 6:12 p.m. Edited.

sunsleader says... #18

Oh yeah I agree on all points but I was playing pod pre ban list update and wanted to find a new combo deck that wasn't control so bloom showed up at the right time and yeah moon is just a wreck

XTechNinjaX, I am trying to squeeze a Choke into my sideboard, any suggestions? I want it all!! lol

Hallowed_Titan - I see that my friend...your side board is very greedy. With Fracturing Gust and the flashback on Ancient Grudge you could probably cut Ancient Grudge to a 2 of. I would also consider swapping out Fracturing Gust for Creeping Corrosion just because artifact wrath is really only going to help you vs affinity and vs affinity casting turn 4 wrath instead of turn 5 wrath means more than the life gain because turn 5 you will most likely be dead. Just remember that will leave you fairly low on answers to enchantments.

I would also cut Torpor Orb just because most times that comes in against titan decks like yours so you are really only hindering yourself with that. That's 2 slots but I have no idea how else to tune your board without like giving up Beast Within which would give you no enchant hate. Good luck and let me know what you decide!

August 6, 2015 4:59 p.m.

Thanks for the input XTechNinjaX, I think I'll cut the orb, solid points all around though, I appreciate it alot!

I am actually surprised to see a lit like this not playing Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Any particular reason?

I have a version with stuff like Wistful Selkie, Eternal Witness, and Burning-Tree Emissary. It floods the field with devotion to get a very fast Titan into play. I feel like your deck is a little too slow here, although I do like the infect alternate win con.

Personally I don't think you should be playing Lightning Bolt here. It serves little purpose as your end game is to trample over with a huge creature, so you don't care about blockers. Those slots should be used to accelerate your win con by playing small ramp/devotion creatures.

Primal Command is a card that you should consider to search up Prime Time. It's also a versatile card against many decks and can buy you valuable time against a deck like Affinity, Burn, or Zoo with the life gain.

The worst matchups for this deck are combo. Mainboard you currently can't interact at all with those decks. Twin or Grishoalbrand will most likely rock you.

You have a few answers in your sideboard, namely Beast Within, Pithing Needle, and Grafdigger's Cage.

You might want to consider Rending Volley to help in the Twin matchup.

August 9, 2015 11:33 p.m.

UpsetYoMama, thanks for the feedback. I have actually been wanting Primal Commands for this deck. I also don't have any spare nykthos to toss in, maybe it's just me being old fashioned but I like my old school ramp lol. Also, I play more casual than modern so Lightning Bolts are pretty useful there.

Oh, okay. Here I am trying to gear you up for cutthroat modern.

It's just that I've lost to Splinter Twin turn 4 enough to know that it can be brutal on a deck like this :P
