Overview

Welcome to my take on Nicol Bolas, the Ravager  . As the great villain in Magic's story, Nicol Bolas never had the best option to be a commander. His older self was expensive and required mana investment on each of your turns to make him stay on the battlefield. This changed with M19. Now, Nicol Bolas can be a great commander without all the cons the older version had. And the good thing is, Nicol Bolas, the Ravager   is a very open ended commander. Even tough his colors encourages a control build, you can build a Dragon themed deck, a discard deck, anything you desire is fair game. For this build, however, I'm going to the control/combo route, with stealing permanents as a sub-theme.

Nicol Bolas Always have a Plan

Control the board is imperative in a control deck and this is no different here. If the board becomes too crowded and too dangerous, don't shy away from casting Damnation or Toxic Deluge. Rhystic Study and Phyrexian Arena will help on your card draw engine, while you counter spells with Countersquall, Counterflux and many other counterspells. But Nicol Bolas doesn't distinguish between servants and victims, so Dragonlord Silumgar and Sower of Temptation are there for you to steal your opponents' creatures. Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker encourages the "steal your opponents best toys" strategy, meanwhile, Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh steal cards from the top of your opponents libraries. If said creatures are in the graveyard The Scarab God and Nicol Bolas, the Arisen will return them, but in your ranks. Expropriate is also a great card that gives to you all what you want and, in my experience, just steals the game.

The Endgame is Nigh

Your primary win conditions for this deck are:

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker/Splinter Twin+Pestermite: Create as many tokens with haste as you want and finish the game.

Insurrection/Mob Rule/Reins of Power: Take control of your opponents creatures and destroy them with their own armies.

Nicol Bolas, the Arisen's Ultimate: You basically exiles all cards from target library. To help you achieve the goal to use your commander's ultimate ability, Deepglow Skate are there to give him as many loyalty counters as they can.

Hoped you liked the deck. :)
