Why not use Titan's Strength instead of Weapon Surge ?

Talmanes says... #4

@the5ervant I would think because the overload is very beneficial when you have sixty-seven trillion elemental tokens on the field, giving them all 1 more damage is good.

@Talmanes, the5ervant stacked with multiple elemental tokens that +1 first strike adds up alot! :)

I've been tinkering around with Izzet for a little while now so if you want to check out what I have it's called Guttersnipe Blitz. I don't really build on a budget but my deck might still give you some ideas.

AGunWithLegs says... #7

So, upon first glance at the deck, I immediately thought "where is Guttersnipe ?" And then I read the comments, and I can see one of the problems may be, what do you cut? My question to you, what are Chandra's Phoenix and Nivix Cyclops doing for the deck? I would say they are likely cuts, but that's just my opinion. Overall, great job, +1 from me, and consider taking it to a FNM to see how you do.

@AGunWithLegs Nivix Cyclops for each instant or sorcery cast gets +3 thats badass. Chandra's there for filler and haste that comes back with casting. I have no Guttersnipe because I actually only have one.

fairly good reasons I think :)

Nice! Like it, maybe Quicken ? Goes well with Divination .

October 17, 2013 9:31 p.m.

+1 from me, I really like how Izzet looks in standard. Nice job, had fun playtesting. That Young Pyromancer can get out of control quick!

October 17, 2013 9:45 p.m.

MrKnify says... #11

Thank you!

@buffy unfortunatly at this time I only have 1 Quicken

@cakrause86 gotta love the Young Pyromancer !

October 17, 2013 9:55 p.m.

MrKnify says... #12

if i dropped the 2 Goblin Electromancer I would replace them with another Young Pyromancer , and either a Purphoros, God of the Forge or another Spellheart Chimera instant maybe.....

Personally, I don't think Goblin Electromancer is worth it in this deck. Only things it would do anything for would be Divination and overload Mizzium Mortars o and fuse Turn / Burn . And your Young Pyromancer is a big target when he gets out, my experience with him being out is, prepare to counter. And game 2/3, prepare to counter twice in a row if you want to feel safe. Don't rely on the Nivix Cyclops can't combo him into killing the other guy easily with your spells, great defender that's can take a beating, and every now and again swing for a decent amount. Deck might be better off with Guttersnipe than Nivix Cyclops . If you decide to trade Nivix Cyclops for Guttersnipe you could go control and just slowly kill them as you counter them, and have Young Pyromancer swing with the lovely tokens. But if you want to win with Nivix Cyclops and Young Pyromancer just focus on low cost spells such as Shock and ways to get unblockable. Best way is of course Teleportal since it procs and gives you the unblockable with the option of unblockable army token.

@unholycookies I appreciate the input. I also can drop some others out for Dissolve as its an amazing counter. there are also 20 other decks that are VERY similar, and I am supporting all of them each has its own little tweaks.
But you've seen this already. Guttersnipe is amazing, and would work well here too. (need to get some more.)

at this point you should be able to tell what cards are filler and what cards make the deck substantial.

Give it a playtest. you will be suprised.

oh and if someone thought you had a combo in your deck, do you think they would counter creatures that could pull that combo..... Negate would also be greate to add.

October 18, 2013 5:55 a.m.

unholycookies says... #16

I expect the counter, which is why I personally only feel safe when I'm holding a Izzet Charm or Dispel in my hand when casting them, and when they've resolved, Mizzium Skin . Most people don't expect to have to randomly deal with hexproof on a random creature out of the blue.

I could easily see you making this into a control deck and still have the Goblin Electromancer because they're useful, but it depends on how useful they really are in your deck. Having one out would make Negate a better Dispel .

Guess my biggest problem is I'm not sure what you're going for, because it looks something like what I'm trying out before playing with random people. Which is a deck that's still trying to figure out what it wants to do, then revising it to fit that purpose.

Point of interest that might explain something, I hate I believe it was Jund decks. that were just a mix of good cards put together. Might be another deck, but I don't like random decks that seem to not really know what it's going for. But that's just my opinion on the deck, no offense to the deck, I'm just a little crazy about order.

October 18, 2013 11:58 a.m.

In my playtest against my TurboMaze deck this deck did not win a single match. I think it's just a matchup issue, and the results would be very different were both decks piloted by individual players. My playtesting is probably very biased, lol.

I really do like this deck and think it can beat some serious face at FNM. Why do you not run a second or third Mizzium Mortars ? I would also switch out Divination for Steam Augury as it's in color.

October 18, 2013 1:21 p.m.

MrKnify says... #18

@unholycookies what are you talking about random with no clue for direction every creature has something to do with something in the deck. If you look over my "maybeboard" you will see several cards from the list you gave me. Then in my "sideboard" you will see it is short on cards. My goal was not for a control deck but for a kind of "SteamPunk" style deck, with a flying goat. but that name did not sound as fun as the one I chose.
I prefer Theme decks, and they MUST have purpose. Call it an OCD.
Also you still have not linked your deck, I would request you to do so.(that is the request).

and, Thank you for your curious question.

@Gorgosaurusrex thats a shame. The cards are the way they are as those are the cards I own. I will NEVER post a deck with cards I do not own as that is just silly. Back to the play test, I will playtest your deck with mine and give you my biased opinion (lol) but as biased as I am to liking my deck, I am Honest. If I lose I lose. But you have me interested now.

Also I'm looking at your Deck RIGHT now.

October 18, 2013 4:11 p.m.

@MrKnifyI just have trouble playtesting two decks that each have control elements, as it's hard to imaging which spells one would counter as one is subconsciously thinking of the other deck's hand.

I like that you only post decks with cards you own. I just finished putting together TurboMaze and have had a BLAST playing it with my pals.

Let me know how the playtest goes, I am very interested in the results!

Not saying your deck is random, saying it's such a mix of cards I'm not really sure what you're aiming for. Everything has a purpose yes, but I just see too many win cons in one deck that it might be hurting more than helping

@unholycookies

Why don't you break it down for me?

what are my "win cons"

what do you feel is hurting more then helping.

well I like it. I love the phoenix played with the God out. it puts up a wall for the opponent. "do I really want to kill that phoenix? and take another 2 damage?'' plus with the young pyromancer not only do you get your phoenix back with a spell hitting the opponent you get a 1/1 and 2 damage with the god and the phoenix back! I think this deck plays very well. it has given me a lot of ideas. and as for being random. I dont think so. I think you knew what you were doing when you built this deck. :)

I think Inspiration is a much better card than Divination here, since you can do it on their turn. By using your draw on your turn, you give up the ability to use any of your 16 instants. I'd +4 -4 for inspiration, otherwise a pretty solid deck. Also, if they're a good player, which is when you need it most, Steam Augury never works. It's cute but in my experience (playing Izzet Control at FNM) It's usually dead and you lose access to cards you desperately need, since snappy isn't legal anymore the card just isn't good. I wouldn't bother with it.

October 19, 2013 11:30 p.m.

MrKnify says... #25

@Braxlyon Thank you, its taken a while to get it to this level, and I find I'm doing little tweaks and tests here and there, refining the meta.

@jasocks Inspiration is a great card, I will look into doing some testing with it, but at this time i'm not sure how many I have. as for Steam augury, I'm still out to lunch on that one, I have none. and I'm not going to go running to find any.

Thanks guys, as always link your decks so I can check them out and others that visit can do the same.

cheers.
