Looks good. I will share two quite similar decklists that I have saved which might give you some ideas.

I'm building the (non budget) version of the first deck I'm showing you. It's a good example because it doesn't entirely rely on the Electrostatic Pummelers.

The second list like this one here of your own also runs some blue cards in the sideboard. Although they do it a little differently by using Botanical Sanctum.

Delta-117,
Yeah, SaffronOlive's videos are what convinced me the deck was actually consistent enough to try! Thanks much for the reminder ... I enjoyed watching them again and have added them to the "shout outs" section.

Good luck (and good skill!) with your build; please let me know how it goes!

First, do you ever play anything but Gruul? Lmao, you know there's three other colors out there right? :P

In all seriousness, I think I prefer Cultivator of Blades to Verdurous Gearhulk as he makes your pump spells so much more deadly and has that Zada, Hedron Grinder-esque feel that you love so much.

Gruul = +1 :P

Buuuuut, even if it wasn't my fav colours, it is a SICK deck bro... You can really mess up everyone with this freaking pummeler .

Great deck!

Zaueski,
Llol! Because yeah, I've loved Gruul since pretty much forever (I blame original Kird Ape). But I actually play a lot of Izzet too. And usually Naya/sometimes Grixis in EDH. But I digress ...

Cultivator of Blades, huh? I confess I've never seriously looked at the card. Will do though, thanks much!

ROUROU,
Thanks much! I'm not going to be able to get it onto a real table until sunday, but I can hardly wait ...

I kinda built something like this but I didn't use pummler. If your mana is fine you might want to go with Sage of Shaila's Claim over servant you get 1 more energy for the same mana cost. Though with the higher mana cost in the deck I do see how it gives you speed to play things. The sage would give you another pump on pummler. Also with the same power it could crew the same vehicales as servant.

Wolfshadowwind,
Thats a really interesting idea. I love having the ability to ramp from Servant, but I've never really tested Sage, so I might love that one extra Energy counter even more. I'll have to check it out; thanks much!

What were the Mardu Control builds like? I ask because I run Mardu control and I've never had trouble beating Pummeler decks. I'd like to know if it was just their brew or if I need more tweaks.

Zaueski,
The first felt a lot like Mardu Walker Control except with Transgress the Mind in the main, and Stasis Snare instead of Authority of the Consuls. He also had a couple Unlicensed Disintegration but I don't recall if that was in the main or the side. The second was much heavier on the Gearhulks ... maybe something like this list, except with Gideon, Ally of Zendikar in the side.

Yeah, Control is generally a terrible match-up for Pummeler. My general plan was basically to get destroyed Game 1, and then side in everything from my sideboard but the Ceremonious Rejection for Games 2 and 3 (and maybe even the Rejection if I saw Void Shatter). Fevered Visions underperformed, but Bristling Hydra and the counterspells were amazing. The play in Games 2 and 3 was basically to hold back and play really slow ... I barely made a move without some 'nope' (i.e., Blossoming Defense or a counterspell) in hand. Lili and Gideon had to be answered, but it was safe to ignore the bigger Planeswalkers.

The element of surprise was a big factor too. For example, in Game 2 of the first match, I was able to use Aether Hub for my first Dispel instead of having to fetch my Island, and while the tempo swing was great, I think the biggest advantage came from how much it shook my opponent.

Hope that helps!

Wolfshadowwind,
A quick update: For this build, it turns out Servant of the Conduit is much better than Sage of Shaila's Claim. Being able to leave Servant up for Blossoming Defense and for color fixing with Temur sideboard is just priceless.

Thanks again though!

Zaueski,
A quick update: Cultivator of Blades is great, but a tiny bit slow for this build. Enabling a +3/+3 (or more, with a pump spell) for the whole team on Turn 6 is awesome, but Verdurous Gearhulk's +4/+4 on a single attacker on Turn 5 seems to be just a little better for this deck.

Thanks tons though!

Hmm, everyone's meta is a bit different, but siding in Bristling Hydra against control seems meh unless they are using 1 for 1 removal. Most control matchups I play see them boarding in additional copies of Fumigate to gain life off of the creatures that get wiped.

You mentioned that your early game is sluggish. How about running Bomat Courier? A 1 drop with haste starts the bleeding as early as turn 1, and the exile trigger makes for a hand refill late game should it survive. Your opponent may actually want to waste removal on it to deny you that card advantage which could clear the way for your other mobs. Also, Built to Smash will work on this as well, meaning that it could swing in for 4 damage on turn 2 and really put pressure on your opponent.

paulbmoore1980,
Fumigate is kind of a pain, but it's easier to play around in Game 1 than Acacyn. And for Game 2, Negate is just spectacular against it. Plus, the build-in hexproof of Bristling Hydra is just great.

The speed issue on my earlier build was more about being too top-heavy, not so much about needing more one-drops. Still, Bomat Courier is a great card, and if I find I need to go even faster (and need card advantage more than Energy synergy), it'll be on the short list for sure!

Thanks much!

Hello, best deck list so far of a G/R Energy, the deck is very similar to mine but I use one more Longtusk Cub why you only running 3 of it, it is very good for open, you can get multiple energy from him and pumping him to 4+ making him hard to kill.

I have brewed with this kind of deck for a while as well and my list is pretty close to yours. Do you like the mana base as it is? I don't like Game Trail since it seems to come in tapped too often.

UlisesMTG,
Yeah I love Pummeler too!

I like Longtusk Cub but wouldn't want any more. Early, the card is great if it can get through, but meh otherwise. And late I always seem to have better things to spend the mana on. It's best, I think, in a deck with Key to the City.

Thanks though

Elex127,
Yeah, I love it. I like a couple Cinder Glade in a midrange build, but this is fast as I can get it. Well, unless Wizards reprints Copperline Gorge sometime! :-)

Thanks!

Cool deck as always! Although i am kind of skeptical about this deck combating W/U Flash. I mean, sure there is Harnessed Lightning, but the chance of consistently getting enough removal to win the game is kind of iffy. Bristling Hydra is a good sideboard card, but can be too slow. Any thoughts? +1!

clayperce says... #18

pinkhamster,
Thanks much for the kudos and the +1!

Yeah, I think UW Flash is now the deck's toughest match-up. I had originally tuned the deck specifically to thump UW, with 3x Pia Nalaar and 3x Smuggler's Copter in the mainboard. But that weakened the deck too much in other match-ups, so I pulled it all. Plus, for whatever reason, UW Flash is barely being played at my favorite LGS.

Some specific thoughts on the match-up (with the caveat that this is based on lots of testing against Joey Manner's White-Blue Flash but no real-world games):

Hope this helps and thanks again!

fuster,
No. Like I say above, I like a couple Cinder Glade in a midrange build. But this deck wants to go fast and Glade is just too slow in the early game, when I need the fixing most.

Thanks though!

I like that you put playtips and stuff up with the deck thats very helpful. And also you rock for doing the shoutouts with the deck not many people would take their time to point out other people. Anyways thanks for posting this epic deck!

Very nice deck, I nearly got all the pices for this thanks to drafting and am thinking about building a pummeler deck myself. I think this is one of the most stable builds I've seen so far and appreciate the little guide how to play. I would +2 if I could.

The biggest problem the deck has is getting past the chump blockers I think, so what are your thoughts on Nature's Way? It provides evasion (trample) AND can kill an opposing creature
