Wartwolf,
No worries; I went ahead and deleted the duplicates. And thanks much for the kudos!

Chandrian,
Thanks as well for the kudos! So far, the deck seems pretty balanced ... I always seem to have just enough Trample to go over or just enough removal to go through. But I haven't really looked at Nature's Way, and on first glance it looks very solid. I'll give it a hard look; thanks much!

Great deck! I've been playing minor variations on the Pummeler-build for several weeks now, and Arlinn Kord  Flip has been the key addition. The only problem I have had with my build was competing against another GR energy/aggro deck that had more removal, ie- Galvanic Bombardment in addition to the Harnessed Lightning's and even a Chandra. This deck is a blast to play! The minor adjustment in my build is the inclusion of a few energy artifacts, Dynavolt Tower and Deadlock Trap, at the expense of the relatively-expensive CMC Uncaged Fury.

djnewellmit If the Mirror is a problem I wouldn't go for those artifacts but for Commencement of Festivities... make them use up their energy and then make it totally useless setting them back a lot. In addition to that a lot of players boast about that they went for a 512/512 or whatever big pummeler and thus are quite likely to spend (near) all their energy when they go for lethal.

Looks good. I really wanted to run mine as Temur. However, I found it was more efficient to run Gruul. But that Slip Through Space though.

I have always had mixed feelings about Lathnu Hellion. I tend not to like red cards like this. However, if you can pay the energy it is great. I personally don't like how situational it feels.

Always glad to see Arlinn Kord  Flip getting some love.

Finally catching up on some comments ...

djnewellmit,
Thanks much, and I'm SO glad Arlinn Kord  Flip is working out for you!

Like Chandrian said, Commencement of Festivities is great for the mirror.

Personally though, I like the Temur sideboard for the removal-heavy mirror as you described ... pulling a bunch of the pumps and adding Natural State + Island + 'nope' spells. But that's probably overkill unless you're also have trouble with Control.

This whole thing reminds me: Besides Commencement of Festivities, watch out for Repel the Abominable (a bunch of folks at my LGS run it as sideboard tech against large Eldrazi, but it works well against us too) and Dazzling Reflection (especially in Lifegain decks).

Thanks again!

Traieon,
I've frankly been amazed at how easy it is to splash. Aether Hub and Servant of the Conduit give 8 sources, and Attune with Aether+Island give 5 more.

I haven't needed Slip Through Space yet ... in my meta, there just aren't that many Deathtouch creatures around, so I've been able to get by with just Trample effects. But it's a great card ... though what I really want is another Rogue's Passage reprint!

I'm kind of mixed on Lathnu Hellion too. I actually love the card in a Zoo-style Energy deck, but it burns through Energy really fast so I'm not a huge fan of it in a Pummeler deck ... still, it's fast and powerful (no to mention spectacular against Liliana, the Last Hope) so I like keeping a couple around ...

And yeah, I was worried that Arlinn Kord  Flip (and really, all the three-Loyalty Planeswalkers) would be almost useless in a world with Smuggler's Copter. But I think she's found a pretty good home in this deck!

Thanks again!

Hi!

Maybe you should run some more creatures. First, my build was very similar, but I had to mulligan too often. I think that Bristling Hydra is a very powerful creature in this deck. I don't like Built to Smash, because you can only cast it on attacking creatures.

Pesmerga1984,
16 Creatures is lighter than the average Pummeler build (I've seen others with up to 22), but I like using those slots for 4x Harnessed Lightning and 2x Arlinn Kord  Flip in Game 1. Well, at least so far!

Yeah, Bristling Hydra is great. You may have missed the 3x on my sideboard or the note in the Playtips section that I "side it in whenever I feel the game can safely go a little slower."

I'm OK with Built to Smash only working on Attack (if I wanted defense I would probably go with Aim High ... partly for the Reach but especially for the surprise Untap effect). But I REALLY wish it granted Trample to non-artifact Creatures. I keep going back and forth on Smash vs. Brute Strength but so far have found the lower mana cost of Smash to be just good enough ... either way though, I'm looking forward to seeing what future sets bring!

Thanks much for your thoughts and the kudos!

I know this deck is built for speed and someone did mention it but Dynavolt Tower may deserve a look at. Just because in your mainboard alone you have 22 instant or sorcery spells. So playing them with tower out just adds to your energy reserves for pummler or ever Aether Hub if you get in a tight squeeze. On top of that if the game gets to mid range it gives you a little more room for removal with harnessed lighting. I know aggro decks can't usually live through a 3 damage hit. Nor do I know what kinda decks you face against but a lot of creatures probably can't take a 5 damage hit since you would gain two extra off harnessed lighting. Or if you needed the removal it still leave you a little energy left to play with. Again not sure how your deck plays. But the extra energy may help if Your opponent stops your pummler ( I'm guessing you would only put in as much energy as needed to go for lethal.) so with the extra energy production you wouldn't necessary have to start at 0 and go back up. I tried an energy deck my production actually caught people off guard cause I used Captain's Claws and Decoction Module was an interesting combo to say the least.

Wolfshadowwind,
I saw Dynavolt Tower in a couple Pummeler sideboards early in the season, but I never really looked at the card. Thanks much for bringing it up though ... it could be a really good fit and I'll definitely check it out! Thanks much!

Traieon,
A quick update: In testing so far, I've found more Removal > Slip Through Space.

UlisesMTG and Traieon,
A quick update: I've been less and less impressed with Lathnu Hellion (because of how fast it burns through Energy), so I'm swapping 2x Hellions for 2x more Longtusk Cub. Thanks again for your thoughts on the cards earlier!

You ended adding the Longtusk Cub's to 2+, told ya haha, but I only use 3 tho, I find 4 too much

I just opened a foil Chandra, Torch of Defiance today clayperce from a Kaladesh booster pack. It's definitely going in my own R/G energy deck I would say!

Delta-117,
Congrats on the pull; VERY nice! Yeah, even though Chandra hasn't really found a Top Tier home yet, she seems really good in an Energy shell ... especially for the Control match-up.

Did you ever consider Woodcutter's Grit? It's really expensive mana-wise but this kind of deck really needs the protection. It also solves the problem of not being able to find your island and buffs while canceling their kill spell.

IAmTheWraith says... #20

I feel like Glimmer of Genius would work well against the control matchup, it potentially lets you go 4 deep into your library, and you gain energy.

November 17, 2016 1:11 p.m.

fuster says... #21

IAmTheWraith 4 CMC makes it easily counterable but it's not too bad if your opponent has to counter it at the end of their turn.

So I have secretly built this deck and I took it to the FNM yesterday, and I would like to share my results with you.

I went 2-3. Not as good as I wanted to do, but HORRENDOUS draws ended up killing me most of the night.

1st Match: U/W Panharmonicon What-Nots, 2-0

I did great this game on draws, and the other guy was newish to the game, so I got to teach him a little AND got a good win. The 2nd game we played I took him out with the "big swing" on turn 5. Pretty sweet.

2nd Match: Temur Mirror (No Electrostatic Pummeler though), 0-2

And this is where crap draws killed me. It was pretty funny actually, our games went by so fast that he offered to play me again, and then I destroyed him. Of course, when it doesn't matter. Lol

3rd Match: B/R Madness, 0-2

Again, crappy draws, but in game 2, when I sided in the Dispel's to get rid of Fiery Temper and what-not, I got one in my opening hand and an Aether Hub, so I held on to it. He outpaced me and didn't play any instant's for a while.

But this is when it got hilarious. I took your tactic of not using an Island to play the first counterspell, and it resulted in one of the funniest reactions I've ever seen in a game. He had a swarm of zombies and vampires, and he swung out 12 to my 13 life. At the end of combat, he used the last of his mana to discard a Fiery Temper with Call the Bloodline, and targeted me for the kill. I said "Okay wait a minute, let me read that", just to make sure it was an instant (he thought I was going for a handshake at first lolol), and I tapped my Aether Hub for a blue and Dispeled it. He then reeled back on his chair, hands on his forehead, and said "YOU HAD A DISPEL IN YOUR HAND!?". Best part of the night for me. I couldn't do anything the next turn though and he took me out.

4th Match: U/W Vehicles, 0-2

Crap draws again, nothing else to say here.

5th Match: Interesting Jeskai Artifact Build, 2-1

Game 1 was hilarious, I ended up getting 4 Voltaic Brawlers out turn 3, and proceeded to just run over him. Game 2 I couldn't get anything on the board except for 2 Longtusk Cub's, and Game 3 I had some good protection for a Pummeler swing on turn 5. That was a great match actually.

My thoughts are as follows: Uncaged Fury, in my opinion, isn't needed. It was dead in my hand in most rounds, even WITH a Pummeler swing imminent. I don't think it's needed, and 3 CMC is a bit much. One Larger than Life and 6 energy counters were enough to put the nail in the coffin in most games. Put in some more utility, some card draw maybe? I don't know any card draw in green right now, so that would be something to figure out, but other than that, FANTASTIC deck, and I look forward to trying it out again next week.

+1! :D

Runlue At first I was liking the deck a lot, then I went vs more control games, and this deck can't do much, the lack of consistense is very bad, you don't have draws or scry to fix draws, I made it since it was budget so not gonna pay more to fix it making it a mid-range with Chandras, green gearhulk, tireless tracker and others good cards to make it a decent mid range deck.

UlisesMTG says... #24

Also the Hydras is a must, Hydra was the only thing helping for the removals, it made some people mad at it, so I'm even thinking to put Hydra at 4 instead of 3, so I can get him turn 3 with Servant of the Conduit

Finally catching up on comments ...

Zulfi,
Thanks so much; glad you like it!

Zaueski,
I hadn't looked at Woodcutter's Grit for this deck, but I'm not a big fan ... I tried it back in EMN with Wolves (which also desperately need protection), but it was just WAY too expensive mana-wise. They didn't need the buff as much though, so maybe it could find a home here. Thanks much for the thought!

IAmTheWraith,
It's funny because I'll actually counter an opponent's Glimmer of Genius post-board because it's such a dangerous card, but I had never even considered running it myself. I'll have to give that a hard look! Thanks much!

Runlue,
I'm so glad you enjoyed the deck, and I really appreciate the match reports! Very sorry about the crap draws, and hope it does better next week.

I'm not sure about pulling Uncaged Fury entirely ... I agree that Pummeler doesn't need it, but it has real value with the other beaters (e.g., Voltaic Brawler or a Longtusk Cub with a couple counters). Still, it's one of the first cards I pull for sideboarding, and it's certainly been a dead card in my hand before.

Maybe swap out one or two for Tormenting Voice or Key to the City? Or swap to sideboard, for those who like Bristling Hydra in the main?

Thanks again, TONS!

UlisesMTG,
Sorry the deck didn't work well for you. Like I mention in the Playtips section Game 1 vs. Control is almost always a loss (because I have the maindeck tuned as fast as possible), but I've seriously never had any trouble at all in Games 2 or 3 (and there's generally a TON of Control in my meta, so I've played and playtested extensively, against a bunch of different brews).

Pummeler doesn't really lend itself to Midrange. If you change your mind and want to go that route, I'd recommend a more generic Energy build, like Shaun McLaren's Gruul Energy.

Finally, I agree that Bristling Hydra is a must. That's why I have 3 on the sideboard :-)

Thanks for the comments, and good luck with whatever deck you play next.
