I like Rush of Adrenaline more than Uncaged Fury here... You don't really need the double strike, and having more trample at instant speed would be really good.

Zaueski,
Like I mentioned to Runlue above, I'm not interested in pulling Uncaged Fury entirely. It's certainly pricey mana-wise, but it's just so good with Voltaic Brawler and Longtusk Cub ... usually game-winning if an opponent doesn't block and working just as well as a Trample effect (cleaning out the defender on the First Strike step and then punching through to my opponent on the normal Combat Damage step) if he or she does.

However, it's probably worth taking a closer look at running both Rush of Adrenaline and Uncaged Fury. A number of folks do so (e.g., this deck), and while either card is good on its own, together they'd be pretty much bonkers...

Thanks much!

I saw a bunch of folks using Harnessed Lightning wrong over the weekend, so I wanted to call out the Gatherer text just in case you weren't aware:

  • You choose the target creature as you cast Harnessed Lightning. You don't choose how much Energy to pay until ~ is resolving. No player may take actions between the time you choose how much Energy to pay and the time the creature takes damage equal to the Energy paid this way.
  • If the target creature becomes an illegal target, ~ is countered and none of its effects happen. You wont get Energy counters or be able to pay any Energy.

Sorry for the spam if you already knew this!

In case you missed it, I also wanted to mention: FIREphaenix asked about sideboarding for Pummeler over on this thread, in preparation for Standard Showdown.

Please drop by and share your thoughts too. Thanks!

I'd go flames with servant and aether hub you can make it hit for the full 3 damage it cost you an energy but hey if your trying to clear the board plus if you want to trigger the second of return you'd need a big colorless creature to hit that 5 on the board which may throw your aggro to mid range

Wolfshadowwind,
This deck doesn't ever want the "5 damage to each creature" effect from Kozilek's Return; I was looking at it for the Instant speed. I agree with you though, that the ability to tailor the damage from Radiant Flames anywhere from 1 to 3 seems more useful. Thanks!

Well with your consideation of galvanic bombardment going in you could use that for spot removal at instant speed and board whipe at sorcery or flip have board whipe at instant and use incendiary flow for spot removal at sorcery

Just got done with FNM and got kicked in the rectum.

Any advice against G/B Delirium? Seems to be a major contender at my LGS.

Man, Got to 3rd place on this new Showdown events, did various changes to the deck.

2-0 vs Blue White Flash1-2 vs Red White Vehicle2-0 vs Green White with Avacyn and lot of control2-0 vs A Human Aggro deck with Copters (not sure the name)

so made it 3-1 at 3rd place, also from the Showdown Booster I pulled a Sol Ring Invention :D

Borrowed hositly i think is better then built to smash just because u can also give ur creature first strke

Have you ever given any thought to Key to the City with how much has been talked about I wasn't sure. I only ask cause if you larger then life Pummler pump once and uncaged furry he would hit lethal and if it was prevented you'd have energy left and cards to repeat combo.

Finally catching up on comments ...

Runlue,
Very sorry about the butt-kicking! I've only played BG Delirium twice IRL so please take my thoughts with some healthy skepticism!

  • One match was 2-1 and one was 0-2, but both felt like a pretty even match-up.
  • There are three VERY distinct stages to the game: Pre-Ishkanah, Grafwidow, Post-Ishkanah, and Dead. Pre-Ishkanah (Turns 1-4) = Hope to get lucky and combo off with Pummeler or a pumped up Brawler. Post-Ishkanah (Turns 5-13) = If you can't remove or Trample over her + her brood and still have enough left in the tank to kill your opponent, you're dead. Dead (Turn 13-ish) = Emrakul, the Promised End arrives and you're dead the next turn.
  • In the previous games, I pretend like I sideboard in a bunch of things, but don't actually change the deck at all. I will mulligan very aggressively post-board for a Harnessed Lightning to remove Ishkanah.
  • I ran Ceremonious Rejection in sideboard early in the season, and if BG Delirium was a bigger issue in my meta, I might run a couple. They still get the cast trigger from Emrakul of course, but at least there's no 13/13 afterwards.
  • Now that I think about it though, it would probably be much better to run 3x Revolutionary Rebuff or maybe Spell Shrivel, to counter Ishkanah.

Good luck (and good skill) in future match-ups!

UlisesMTG,
CONGRATS on both your Showdown results and the Sol Ring! That's so awesome!

Luffy1369,
Yeah, like I say in the Strategy and Card selection section, I don't like Built to Smash much either. I'm not remotely a fan of Borrowed Hostility though. First strike is fine, but this deck needs Trample lots more. Plus the Escalation cost on Hositility is just oppressive. Thanks though!

Wolfshadowwind,
I keep putting Key to the City on my Maybeboard, but I've never really tested it deeply. I think it's that I love the idea of the card, but just can't figure out what I'd pull ...

I'll give it a hard look though this time; thanks much!

December 5, 2016 12:01 a.m.

I can see that the deck seams pretty good on its own I could only suggest droping a cub or two or maybe a cub and an Attune. I don't think you want a full play set only cause it could really become a dead draw.

Runlue,
Following up on the discussion with Wolfshadowwind ...
I'm not sure if it'd end up in mainboard or side, but the more I think about it, the more I like Key to the City for BG Delirium. Seems like an Unblockable effect would pretty much just ruin Ishkanah's day. I'd start with three in the 75, so hopefully one would survive the likely Nature's Ways and Transgress the Minds of Game 2.

December 5, 2016 2:56 a.m.

Yea I have issues with delirium in my meta though I haven't seen many in my meta run much if any removal. I usually get taken out by Emrukal. It's going to be a tough call for it cause your main board is so solid and your side board is even better. Especially with the Temur surprise.

clayperce Thanks! With the money I got fromt he Sol Ring sale, I'm moving to the R/G Energy Pummerless deck, very similar to the one you have.

Built to Smash is better than the other 3 power pump spell you have )

Guardians,
You maybe missed this in the Strategy and Card Choices section:

GREAT CARDS I'M NOT USING AND WHY: I know Built to Smash is a Pummeler staple, but I've been stuck with one in my hand way too often, wishing it could pump up a Creature on defense or wishing it could grant Trample to a non-Artifact Creature.

Thanks though!

Guardians,
Just noticed you were comparing Built to Smash to Uncaged Fury, so here are some more thoughts:

In a Pummeler deck, Smash doesn't really compete for slots against Fury because they fill totally different roles. Smash is a generic pump spell, so it competes for slots with cards like Brute Strength, Larger Than Life, and (in some metas) Aim High.

But Uncaged Fury is a finisher, and a really important way to win a grindy game. So in a deck like this, Fury actually competes for slots with other game-enders, like Verdurous Gearhulk and Skysovereign, Consul Flagship.

Thanks again!

Ok, Makes sense. Im just wondering-is your meta very controlling? If so, I think another Bristling Hydra would make sense somewhere in the 75. If not, I still think It still makes sense to run another 1 as it dodges removal really well. Also, I think 1-2 Evolving Wilds might help you get more blue mana if it's hard post-board. Have you considered Tireless Tracker? It can be really helpful in this type of deck

UlisesMTG says... #24

Guardians Hello,

The deck doesn't go always the same time, you have to build it for the most flexibility were you play, in my case and my Local Store there are tons of control/removals deck so I run 4 hydras, Evolving Wilds make the deck slower since it is an aggro deck and you want to have untapped lands, Tireless Tracker is an Awesome card but I don't like it on the Pummeler Energy combo, I'm using it for a RG Energy non Pummeler build, but the deck is a little bit more expensive.

Guardians,
My meta is usually VERY Control-focused, but it's been all over the map this season.

Some thoughts ...

TL;DR: Yours were all very worthy thoughts, but not for this deck. I'd love your inputs though on this one: Bad Beats (KLD Energy)!
