I just drew a Brimaz, King of Oreskos !!!

Should he go in the deck? He'd be a great defense against force-sacrifice effects!

Ooooo I like this deck. It IS like the one I created. I like Aurelia and martial glory for the heroic trigger. Solid. I would take out either a brave the elements or a fabled hero for Brimaz. Or both if you have two. +1!

Thanks man! Yeah, I think I'll spring for another Brimaz. He's so great. I would probably drop one of each of those once I do that to make room.

Boros Charm is good for any boros deck.

Boros Charm is great, I have it sideboarded at the moment against control or burn decks that like destroying my creatures. Brave the Elements and Gods Willing often serve the same purpose (without the extra utilities), and are a bit faster. I am struggling to find a spot on the mainboard for it. Aurelia, the Warleader will be replaced by Brimaz, King of Oreskos ...so I think the only thing to switch to the sideboard in favor of the Charm would perhaps be Martial Glory . Thoughts?

I have thought about Soldier of the Pantheon a lot. Do you think I should lose Nyxborn Shieldmate for him?

Yea, he is a great one drop forsure. Protection from all multicolor. Easy block to multi color without any damage. Plus with all the multi color gods alot of people run multicolor decks, so you'll be gaining life while staying protected. And if Aurelia, the Warleader is being replaced you will be vulnerable to flying. So if your style on this deck is Heroic monsters , i say throw in Wingsteed Rider or even to counter fly your opponent, Cavalry Pegasus , except he doesnt fit the deck, but definitly makes all your creatures fly when they attack seeing as though most creatures are humans. and if Wingsteed Rider isnt your liking mana cost wise, theres always Akroan Skyguard .

if you wanna make this more revolved around getting creatures huge via enchantments, i have a few more suggestions, because with the new set dropping W/R all enchantments and enchantment creatures gets nasty. Expecially with guys like Eidolon of Countless Battles . Throw in a few Hopeful Eidolon and buff them up with Ethereal Armor it just gets mean.

JakeHarlow says... #8

Yeah. The idea is to get massive creatures with enchantments, and then swing for lethal before the opponent can really defen him/herself. Turn 4 wins are pretty common, with a Turn 3 very possible. I like Nyxborn Shieldmate better than Hopeful Eidolon because the bestow is cheaper. However, Hopeful would be good for control and/multiplayer, because I'll likely need the life gain for the longer games.

Eidolon of Countless Battles is a real hoser. I've been considering him for a while.

Flying creatures don't bother me too much, because I've usually won by the time they are able to kill me. Plus I have Celestial Flare and Anger of the Gods in the sideboard to handle them if they are too fast.

Good point, Yea i just always suggest flyers if i dont see any. In my current Golgari deck what really destroys me is creatures like Chandra's Pheonix :/

Yeah, those little buggers just won't stay dead! Your Deathrite Shaman would be the only thing to give you respite.

March 21, 2014 10:36 a.m.

Nice deck! I have a Boros Voltron Deck called Lethal Damage and I would use Soldier of the Pantheon . It's a great one-drop and provides nice coverage. Also if you like enchantments, use Hero of Iroas , because he is the reason why I like enchantments!

JakeHarlow says... #12

Good call. I need to probably replace Nyxborn Shieldmate with Soldier of the Pantheon . Is that a good call?

Only thing is, the 'mate has the cheapest bestow cost in the game, which is great.

Thanks for the advice and your +1! :)

What do you guys think about Ajani for this deck?

Ajani, Caller of the Pride just adds another layer of offense. He will give double strike and evasion to any creature that doesn't already have it. His ability to buff a creature can often give you just enough to put lethal damage on the board. His ultimate, of course, is also a threat (but usually this deck should win before that option presents itself).

I like your deck's premise. On this one, Phalanx Leader makes a lot of sense because you're gonna have stuff down. Brave the Elements will add an additional layer of protection and also allow you to go through unblocked.

I'd consider Dragon Mantle instead of Ethereal Armor. With only 8 enchantments you wouldn't ethereal for a lot except for some exceptions where you drew multiple. On the other hand, the mantle draws you a card and gives you firebreathing - you'll get to pump your guys a bit further if you happen to have mana unused.

I really like Gideon as a planeswalker. I'll have to make a Gideon centric deck at some point.

Thanks! I'll be sure to give a play-by-play for my next FNM. Won't make it this week, but I'll be able to next week. :)

TheHiketeia: Here's a summary of FNM this week. I took 2nd place, mostly due to some bad drawing on my fourth matchup. Here's what went down:

Match 1 - Orzhov Control/Heroic Midrange (Win)

I got paired up with my buddy for the first game. His deck ran off of Agent of the Fates and is designed to force-sac everything his opponent plays. When the board is clear, he sends in his Desecration Demon to mop up. I managed to win on Turn 4 both games. I had great hands and he couldn't draw enough removal. I sac'd Nyxborn Shieldmate to Agent of the Fates to keep my Fencing Ace and Fabled Hero alive. Had Gods Willing and Boros Charm to defend from his targeted removal. This is usually a very competitive matchup for my friend and I but the cards really worked for me today. 2-0, me.

Match 2 - Mono-White Heroic Aggro Weenies (Win)

This match was hard. The opponent had a mono-white deck with Hero of Iroas , Precinct Captain , 3 Brimaz, King of Oreskos , and other threats. Gift of Orzhova was really messing up my pace with the life gain he got. Game 1 was a disaster for me. He beefed up a Precinct Captain while I had a hand with just an Ace and a Soldier of the Pantheon . His Brimaz hit the table and I just couldn't get through. Scooped, and boarded in 4 Anger of the Gods . Game 2 was a disaster for him. He did not curve out. I had a Turn 2 Ace, and on Turn 3 it had Madcap Skills and 2 Ethereal Armor , making it 10/7. Swung for 20 on Turn 3, won. Game 3 was tough. We both played on curve. By Turn 4, he had Soldier of the Pantheon , a Precinct Captain , a Gifted Brimaz, and three tokens. I had chumped well in the opening stages with Soldier of the Pantheon and Shieldmate, but I was still down to 9. Turn 3 I drew an Anger of the Gods and played an Armor and Madcap on my Ace. T4 I chumped with my remaining Shieldmates and went to 1, put another Armor on the Ace. Turn 5: Anger of the Gods , only Brimaz and my Ace survive. My Ace swings for 20. Opponent was at 24. I Boros Charm him to squeak out the win. 2-1, me.

Match 3 - Rakdos Aggro Control (win)

This was a straightforward slugfest. Game 1 went my way, with my opponent taking 16 damage by Turn 4 with a Madcap Ace protected from black removal by Gods Willing . Boros Charm closed the gap. Game 2 was tough. I put up a stiff offense, but I couldn't draw enough creatures and ran out of protection from removal. I was forced to protect against red due to a Lightning Strike , losing my Madcap. My Fabled met the same fate the next turn. I floundered to to draw creatures, only to be overrun. Game 3 was fun. I boarded in Anger. We slugged away at each other, Spike Jester , Rakdos Cackler , Mogis's Marauder and burns on his side, Soldiers and Aces on mine. I wiped the board T4, looking for some breathing room. Turn 5 made a Fabled, while he put out a couple Cacklers. I protected, madcap'd, armored, and used Titan's Strength . The Fabled was now 14/9. He swung for the fences. 2-1, me.

Match 4 - Dega Midrange (loss)

This was frustrating. My opening hand had a Mutavault and an Ace, and a Temple. I took a land. Played Ace, armor. Swinging for 4 plus Vault's 2. Protected from Dreadbore once. Every draw of mine was literally a land. I floundered. No protection, so Ace got removed. Mutavault had no enchancements. Floundered until Turn 6, and he dropped an Elspeth, Sun's Champion to kill me. Game 2 was the opposite problem. I had a hand with good creatures, a scry land, and a Vault. I scryed, saw no land, put on bottom. I had no Ace in hand, just Phalanx Leader and two Fableds. Drew no lands for the entire game. Could play nothing. Killed by Elspeth again. 0-2, him. I was disappointed because this should have been an easy matchup. We played some casual games after and I smashed him twice in row by turn 4. This game has variance though, and sometimes this happens. No hard feelings.

I had fun, my deck did well. I will post an update on the lessons I learned, and the changes I want to make to improve the deck further.

That's an interesting suggestion. It's a bit off-tempo for the deck, but it is a good way to make something unblockable. Thanks for the comment, I'll playtest a bit and we'll see how it works!

You should check Spirit Mantle out. You get 1/1 less than Holy Mantle but it's cheaper and could become a 1-Drop with Hero of Iroas

Darkonite: That's a great card. When the deck rotates from Standard I will certainly consider it, along with Boros Swiftblade and Scourge of the Nobilis . I'm actually excited to explore a Modern build of the deck using the same theme. Daybreak Coronet is also spectacular.

Hrothfar: GG bro. I really think my mainboarding Boros Charm helped me in the matchup. The Anger of the Gods and Chained to the Rocks on the SB are also good. Unfortunately, short of blinking with Legion's Initiative (which I don't use here), there isn't really a viable defense against force-sacrifice effects. :(
