I already mentioned in the update, I'm looking for things to replace them.

Ancestral Vision is banned. And Serum Visions isn't really card draw. It just replaces itself. It's an option, but not the best.

Think Twice is what you want. It's the best draw spell that we have in Jeskai colors, sadly. Oh Esper Charm how I wish Jeskai Charm were as good as you...

Think Twice doubles in being useful against liliana. Discard a card and still get to draw a card to replace it. 2 spinx's rev is the max. You need early draw.

Also, if you care the most about aggro decks, Wall of Omens is always a good option. Blocks a Goblin Guide or Monastery Swiftspear. Even if it dies to an attack + Lightning Bolt, you get your draw and avoid some damage. It prevents more damage than countering a 3-damage burn spell.

Anger of the Gods should probably not be in your deck. Play Pyroclasm if you are worried about affinity and Supreme Verdict if you wanna beat any larger creature deck (Wrath of God is also fine, but uncounterability can come into play against some matchups). 3 damage to each creature doesn't do much against a 4/5 tasigur/goyf/rhino and it stresses the mana with 2 red symbols.

Also, Ajani Vengeant has always seemed weak to me. And Batterskull does well against aggro, but doesn't match up against Junk or more midrangey decks (Those 4/5's again...). I personally removed them for some Restoration Angel's, who can bounce your snapcasters or wall of omens for added value. Another Celestial Colonnade is also pretty much necessary.

Keranos, God of Storms also could come out. Does nothing against your aggro matchups. It's good in the mirror if you can win any counter war over it, and fine against midrange, but a dead card against the more aggro-oriented meta seems like a mistake to me. I could be wrong, and he does keep the board pretty clear against aggro when he comes down. But you should be winning if you make it to turn 5 and are able to cast Keranos without needing to keep up countermagic in the aggro matchup.

I'm a huge fan of electrolyze, but 4 is maybe pusihing it a bit. add a land or a shadow of doubt.

also I agree with zeebs. You should run supreme verdict instead of anger of the gods.

Ajani vengeant could actually be really good. he can lock down a rhino, goyf, etc..

Keranos is also a very good card engine and i like him mainboard. He is a win-con, that is really hard to deal with (especially with all the extra cards he gives you) and that is the kind of win-cons a control deck is seeking.

an Ajani and a Keranos should be enough + colonnades to win a game. Everything else should be permission and removal.

zeebs:

Think Twice is honestly pretty underwhelming. Its essentially 5 mana for 2 cards, which just doesn't make enough of an impact. I've decided to go for more cantrip cards like Remand and Electrolyze instead.

I do like Wall of Omens. I haven't really had too many issues with aggro decks, but if I do I will definitely come back to that card.

Anger of the Gods is in here mainboarded because my meta has consisted heavily of Delver, Affinity, and Vengevine, and Anger is the best answer to all 3. If Vengevine continues to be a thing, Anger will probably stay. If Junk and other midrange strategies take over instead, I will probably move the Wrath Of Gods to the mainboard to take their place. I chose Wrath over Supreme Verdict purely because of Thrun, the Last Troll. Every Junk deck I run into plays him, and Wrath is pretty much my only way to get rid of him.

Ajani Vengeant and Batterskull have both been solid win cons for me so far. Ajani seemed a little underwhelming at first, but he can definitely be a strong force if you can back him up. Same for Batterskull. And with all of the counters, burn and removal in this deck, backing up your win cons isn't any problem at all. I actually had 4 Celestial Colonnades at one point, and found I was drawing multiples too often. Having too many tapped lands really hurts the deck's early tempo. I've found that running 3 copies means I still get one by turn 7-8 (when I'd be looking to activate it anyway), but I don't get flooded with multiples.

Keranos, God of Storms has actually proven to be my strongest win con. He's extremely hard to remove most of the time, provides tremendous card advantage, and really takes over games. He is definitely staying.

I've considered adding a couple Restoration Angel, and possibly even a couple Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breakers to combo, but that would just end up being a different deck. Resto may still have a place, we'll see.

Battlesheep: I do agree that 4 Electrolyze feels like a bit much. I dropped 1 in favor of a 3rd Remand instead.

Thanks to you both for the thoughts!

Deck looks very nice! any reason you are not running Vendilion Clique somewhere in the 75?

February 4, 2015 11:05 p.m.

kmcree says... #12

The biggest reason is just the cost. Its a great card, its just a little situational for me to justify dropping $70 on him. If I already owned him, or had the spare cash lying around, I would probably look to fit 1-2 in the side. In the meantime, I'm doing without.

JexInfinite says... #13

You seem to be running 3 win conditions mainboard. That's not a very good idea. Save Keranos, God of Storms for the sideboard.

Have you thought about Valorous Stance? It kills Tasigur, Rhino, Goyf, Exarch, Resto, and heaps of other value cards.

Also, I'm not convinced of Anger of the Gods at the moment. There don't seem to be enough small creature decks to justify it over Wrath or Verdict.

February 6, 2015 8:41 p.m.

kmcree says... #14

I'm not sure why 3 win cons is an issue? Keranos has been fantastic, he's definitely staying.

Valorous Stance honestly seems pretty underwhelming. The first mode is virtually worthless in this deck, and the second mode is strictly worse than Path to Exile in the vast majority of situations. I'd rather have more counterspells.

As I said in a previous comment, Anger of the Gods is in here mainboard because at least 4-5 people at my shop are running Vengevine, and probably half a dozen others are running either Infect or Affinity. Anger of the Gods is a great answer to all 3 decks, so I've mainboarded it. Its purely a meta decision.

February 9, 2015 11:48 p.m.

One reason people like Think Twice is because if you leave two mana open, your opponent would be reluctant to play any spells because most modern counterspells are two mana. Then before they pass the turn you draw a card with it.

Azul987 says... #16

Think Twice isn't normal "draw 2 for 5 mana" it's "I'll leave my 2/3 mana open if i need counterspell, if i dont, then i play think twice and won't waste that mana"

I'm looking to switch this deck up a little bit, it's just having a tough time in the current meta. I'm thinking about going more midrange with some Blade Splicers and Restoration Angels. Going combo with Resto and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker is another option. Thoughts?

March 4, 2015 1:35 p.m.

Skimm3r says... #18

I myself am trying to make a UW midrangy deck. Restoration Angel is a must, but you seem to understand that already. I'd mainboard a Vendilion Clique because of the flicker shenanigans, if you can get one. Kitchen Finks is great with burn and stompy decks being popular, and the persist is reset from the angel. You could consider Geist of Saint Traft, but it doesn't ever provide value other than damage, and many matchups laugh at a 2/2.

There's also the problem of what you should do with those Anger of the Gods, maybe transmute to the SB and replace with Pyroclasm for better synergy with your creature suite.

I probably won't use one, but Elspeth, Knight-Errant might fit your fancy, and swords could shine with the better army of creatures.

What would be your solution card to use, if your opponent sideboarded in Phyrexian Crusader on the second match?

April 28, 2015 2:08 a.m.

kmcree says... #20

Honestly, I haven't really seen any competitive decks running Phyrexian Crusader. But if I run into him, I can counter him, use Supreme Verdict/Wrath of God, or use something like Batterskull to block, or even Snapcaster Mage to chump. I honestly don't see him as a problem.

Vendilion Clique seems good here with Restoration Angel. Also keeps on the more aggressive theme of the UWR control deck. It's a great way to also clear the way for Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Restoration Angel .

kmcree says... #22

I may try to fit a Clique in here somewhere, but I'm also looking at possibly adding a second Kiki, and I don't want to get too far away from the control side. We'll see how it goes.

IF you're going more of a midrange route, have you thought about Geist of Saint Traft?

August 2, 2015 1:39 a.m.

kmcree says... #24

Yeah I have considered him. I just don't think Geist is very strong in the current meta. He's just chump blocked too easily.

TheGamer says... #25

How much do you like mainboard Spell Pierce? I can see it being very strong in the current metagame, but its a weird card to see in the mainboard of a deck. So I was curious.
