There are two versions of this deck Sucks to Suck tribal vampire deck mostly because when I was constructing the deck, it seemed like it was being pulled in two directions. This version is focused on capitalizing on many of the vampires generating +1/+1 counters when dealing damage to opponents or when creatures die, which drives the aggressive nature of the deck. The sideboard is pending development...The other version of the deck (Sucks to Suck (Aristocrat)) is an vampire/aristocrat deck themed around sacrificing my, or my opponents recently converted creatures, for a benefit, which is usually in the form of extra draws or for +1/+1 counters.

Shout out to Yogei's tribal vampire deck:Vampire Deatheaters and SefTheReject's vampire aristocrat deck:Bordello of Blood for my inspirations behind these two decks I created. A description of the cards that make up the deck can be found below.

Artifacts

  1. The Ozolith provides me the ability to keep any +1/+1 counters generated by pulling them from any of my creatures that are removed from the board be it from mortal combat, exile, or destruction. This is key piece as the deck works best when you are attacking and dealing damage as 14 of the vampires trigger abilities when damage to an opponent is done.

Creatures

  1. Cemetery Gatekeeper is a new addition that has the ability to tax opponent's health for playing cards that share a card type exiled with Cemetery Gatekeeper. The idea was to try to generate a consistent way to deal damage to an opponent but I will need to see how it feels in the deck.

  2. Cordial Vampire provides ALL vampires some +1/+1 counters whenever ANY creatures dies be it mine or an opponent's. This in a way forces an opponent to reconsider blocking if it means a blocker or attacker may perish as that pumps my remaining creatures.

  3. Drana, Liberator of Malakir provides +1/+1 counters to any attacking creatures as long as she hits an opponent. Given she has first strike and flying for evasion, it is kinda a way to lure an opponent into an exchange just to have your other attacking creatures suddenly pump.

  4. Knight of the Ebon Legion helps iron out the mana curve a bit by giving us a one-drop vampire with some upside in his ability to pump himself when enough damage is dealt to an opponent. His Firebreathing ability is also not to shabby if you have the mana to burn to activate it.

  5. Rakish Heir is another general counter creator as he can place a +1/+1 counter onto any vampire that deals damage to an opponent. I feel like he is a little underwhelming for 3 CMC which is why I only have 2 copies of him in the deck currently. He may be replaced with Stensia Masquerade but have not tried that switch yet.

  6. Sromkirk Noble gives me a reliable 1-drop with the upside of being able slide past any humans unblocked, which are pretty common, only to be rewarded with generated +1/+1 counter on himself.

  7. Vampire Socialite is the card that stimulated the creation of this version of the deck as she can come in and add counters to existing vampires or allow other vampires to enter with +1/+1 counters as long as damage to an opponent is being dealt.

Enchantments

  1. Hardened Scales is pretty key here by letting me double any potential +1/+1 counters created.

  2. Rancor is a nice cheap way to ensure that damage can make it though a blocker. The fact that it can just be recast over and over if the creature leaves the board is an extra benefit!

Instants/Sorceries

  1. Assassin's Trophy provides me the ability to deal with anything my opponent may throw down be it a creature, artifact, or enchantment. I do like the utility of that and will take the negative of ramping the opponent in that exchange.

  2. Lightning Bolt provides some targets damage for either a quick creature removal to trigger Cordial Vampire's ability or player damage to trigger Vampire Socialite's ability.

  3. Urge to Feed is a new addition that is a bit of a utility card. It can act as a weaker creature removal, which may trigger Cordial Vampire's ability, but then I can also tap vampires to add +1/+1 counters to them at instant speed. This means at the end of my opponent's turn, I can possible remove a creature from my opponent's board to potential pump my creatures and then tap all my vampires to pump them additionally for a all out assault the following turn for two CMC.

Playtesting

  • Honing the deck to focus more on dealing damage to opponent to pump creatures. Added Lightning Bolt for this reason as I can either use it for removal or for direct damage. Experimenting with other removal spells to see how I like those in the deck like Assassin's Trophy, Abrput Decay, Urge to Feed, among others...

  • It was recommended to focus on making sure my vampires hit home often. Since I am running green, this means trample would be the easiest way to get this. Driven / Despair is a nice draw engine when conditions are right but cards like Crash Through are similar and cheap...Rancor would also do this well and could be easily recast thanks to its ability. Currently trying out these options to see how they feel.
