"Forming clouds, their shadow shrouds

Louder the tattered wings they sound

Descending down

Down they come, the swarm of locusts

Skies above converge to choke us

Feast of souls consume the harvest

Young and old, suffer unto the locust"

-Rob Flynn of Machine Head

Introduction

Do you enjoy drawing some cards, then drawing more cards, and then draw cards on your opponents' turns? The Locust God might be the deck for you! The objective of this deck is to get The Locust God out as early as possible, draw-draw-draw, and swiftly end your opponents either through combat damage or burn effects! This deck started as a very casual deck that I built just for fun, using cards that I had lying around. After playing it, I ended up really enjoying this deck! So I went about accruing better and better cards until I ended up with this list. It is a lot of fun if you like making tokens and having explosive plays!

What this deck is not is a:

1) Purely casual deck

2) A budget deck (however, if you want some budget suggestions/budget list lmk!)

3) A cEDH deck

Core Strategy

The most efficient way to win with this deck is to utilize Purphuros or impact tremors to burn your opponents out. This can most easily be done through using burst card draw, wheeling, or combat-drawing (think coastal piracy). There is a lot of ramp in this deck. I have a lot of green players in my glaygroup so keeping up/ramping faster than them is a must! This deck is very heavily centered around its general, so getting the big bug out is crucial to win. Early on in the game I focus on ramping and doing spot-removal to disrupt my opponents. Setting up a combat-draw card before getting Locust God out will be crucial for you. Skullclamp is probably the best card in the deck, hence why trinket mage is in the 99. Be careful when playing it, because your opponents WILL know how insane that card is for your deck.

Notable Exclusions

I am not a fan of temple bell-like cards. Your opponents are going to be getting the advantage before you do, and all you will be doing is giving your opponents 6+ more bullets to shoot you with for 2 extra locusts. Not worth it. I see these cards in a lot of Locust God lists.

Jace's archivist + Arcanis, the Omnipotent: These guys are just too slow for my taste. Not to mention you have to wait a whole turn before you get to use their abilities. I never like broadcasting my gameplan if I can avoid it.

Combos

Locust God + locust + Breath of Fury + Coastal Piracy/Rec Mission/Cur Crafter = infinite combat

Wheel effect + Narset = lots of draw for you, not so much for your opponents

Final Thoughts

Let me know your thoughts! I will be consistently editing this deck as long as I play EDH, so the evolution of my Locust God list will be continually modified.
