Control the board with black spot removal and blue counter spells, ramp with green, and cast
Koma, Cosmos Serpent
to punish your opponent for playing magic.
An ideal opening hand has at least one source of black and/or blue for control. Having only green in the opening hand will make it hard to respond to the opponent's actions and they might outpace us while we ramp too slowly.
This deck has a hard time against mono-white weenies as we basically need to forego ramp in order to respond to a creature each turn.
This deck seems to go about 50/50 in a control mirror, mono-blue is a little hard to deal with but we can bide our time and wait for out opponent to tap out before throwing down a Beanstalker Giant, watching them unsummon it next turn and hold up mana for a counter, then breaking their proverbial ankles by throwing down an un-counter-able
Koma, Cosmos Serpent
.
I don't really have to care too much about any wraths that destroy the board considering we don't run that many creatures, but
Extinction Event
and
Banishing Light
can get through the little hole in our Koma armor so that's why we have all the counters.
Otherwise this deck seems to keep up with most everything else provided I manage my mana with instant control and green ramp spells. Sometimes you'll need to choose between ramp or control depending on how interactive and fast your opponent is. A fun thing to do is
Ilysian Caryatid
t2, tap it t3 for
Beanstalk Giant
and figure out your 2 free lands whether you want to hold up mana for removal or counters.
Anyway, once you've got your
Koma, Cosmos Serpent
down, you can pretty much control the rest of the game by tapping your opponents crucial permanents, removing the small ones and chump blocking with coils, and keeping Koma alive by making it indestructible on the stack (or counter exiling cards).
Any suggestions are appreciated!
