Standard RW Control Brew. Any feedback is appreciated! Trying to make this deck shine.
Win Conditions
Stormbreath Dragon - he's just a hoss. No Thundermaw Hellkite but he fills the shoes well regardless. Haste is good, monstrous punishes control decks with large hands, and dodges Chained to the Rocks, Azorius Charm, and Detention Sphere.
Assemble the Legion - A card often deemed too slow that I have always loved. It creates an unraceable clock against an opponent with a weak board presence, and enchantment hate is almost non-existent in the standard meta right now. Great tool against mono-black.
Elspeth, Sun's Champion - Just amazing. More tokens to block and strike with, can wipe away opposing Stormbreath Dragon, Desecration Demon,
Arbor Colossus
, and Polukranos, World Eater, and the emblem is pretty much a scoop.
The Support Package
Chained to the Rocks - It's no Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares, but in standard Chained is the best we have, and it hits all the big things we can't burn out, save opposing Stormbreath Dragons. Land destruction isn't played in standard so our Mountains are safe.
Shock + Magma Jet + Lightning Strike +
Warleader's Helix
- "Burn Baby, Burn". Shock is in there for the curve, and knocking out mana dorks t1 is very helpful to stall out Big Green decks, and hits a fair number of other annoying weenies (I'm looking at you,
Precinct Captain
). Also good for hitting those pesky t2 Pack Rats. Magma Jet is our only source of card filter aside from Temple of Triumph, so I chose 4 of this over Lightning Strike for utility reasons.
Warleader's Helix
can help take down bad boys, keeps you in the game, and is also good for nailing most planeswalkers early (see:
Domri Rade
. Now you don't.) Lightning Strike, because, well, I loved
Searing Spear
.
Mizzium Mortars + Anger of the Gods - our board wipe package. Great against aggro, against control we side these out.
Boros Reckoner
- For the hyper aggro decks where we're gonna need a wall, and a decent attacker on it's own.
Sideboard Tech
Pithing Needle - AEtherling, Jace, Architect of Thought, and Pack Rat really get on my nerves.
Glare of Heresy
- Deal with opposing Elspeth, Sun's Champion's without having to Pithing Needle our own out of the game.
Ratchet Bomb - Mainly for token removal, but useful in other situations.
Skullcrack - A tool against Sphinx's Revelation and opposing Blood Baron of Vizkopa.
Assemble the Legion - We bring in the other two copies versus control and mono black, as they are harder to deal with than for them than our other threats.
Celestial Flare
- I like to use these to hit Stormbreath Dragon
