You cast it for the suspend cost and then just wait for the inevitable.

Love this mechanism. I run a somewhat similar deck but I always find myself needing card draw. Have you had that problem? I'm running Azorius Charm for draw or control as needed. I'm using Venser, the Sojourner to blink in Sunblast Angel every turn and make Gideon's Avenger unblockable. I'm also running 24 lands. I'm curious as to how it runs on less. Also have you considered Gideon's Lawkeeper ? That thing has won me games and it's nice to have some early game control.

I considered sing Gideon's Lawkeeper , but I needed cards that tapped more, like Downpour against decks that threw a bunch of creatures at me. I don't have as much land because I want to have more control, but occasionally I do have a mana shortage. Most of the time, I'm good however. Good luck with your sunblast angel deck!

Maybe use an Unsummon to bring Sunblast Angel back to your hand for recasting?

I'll think about it. It could replace Cloudshift , depending on the situation.

You could also put in Betrayal in for some other options.

Quick question: Does Imposing Sovereign's ability "creatures enter the battlefield tapped" cause Gideon's Avenger to pump up?

Fantastic deck idea and great unique spin! Great work :)

I don't think Gideon's Avenger gets a bonus from it- it's mostly used to halt fast decks and make it easier for Sunblast Angel to wipe them out. And thanks to all who comment and/or upvote!

Ever thought of maybe combining the use of Hidden Strings and Gideon's Lawkeeper ? I have read above your reasons for not using Gideon's Lawkeeper but by combining the use of Hidden Strings it could be potentially devastating. But it seems you have found a nice niche with the way the deck works, and it seems to work quite consistently and well. Just a thought if you ever feel like experimenting.

It'd mess up the deck too much. It would be a good combo, but I'd need it and Gideon's Lawkeeper , something I can't do without taking out essential cards. Thanks for commenting though, love to hear new ideas!

Have you thought of putting in a brine elemental?
September 18, 2013 7:22 p.m.
Doesn't tap and costs way too much mana for what a Blinding Beam can do.
September 18, 2013 7:24 p.m.
Well if you combine it with a sleep, that gives you 3 turns to do what you want.
September 18, 2013 7:29 p.m.
I would have to have sleep and six mana is way too high. Three mana can do what the elemental can do.
September 18, 2013 7:33 p.m.
Brine Elemental is a terrible card. Period. Even for this deck.
September 18, 2013 7:38 p.m.
I would have 4x Minister of Impediments , a friend of mine has then and when one of them is on the game it means that my most powerful creature doesn't play; when he has two, I can't even play.
Man, I do hate decks about not letting the other one play...
September 21, 2013 5:04 p.m.
I thought about that one, but Gideon's Lawkeeper can do the same for one white mana and is a one drop, but he didn't even fit as much as the others there now. Thanks for comments and/or upvotes as always!

You could also sideboard a Venser, the Sojourner if you're not too particular with the format. And sideboard Gideon, Champion of Justice for insta boardwipes. This is assuming your against token decks.
September 21, 2013 10:39 p.m.
Both are too limited .- venser can only really be used with Sunblast Angel and I've tried Gideon, Champion of Justice . Even against token decks he isn't as good as Gideon Jura .
September 21, 2013 10:46 p.m.
That was my point, actually. If that's what you think then you can side both walkers, but it's a pretty sweet combo and feels good when you're able to pull it off. +1 Gideon to tap all of your opponent's creatures, then (assuming you have Gideon's Avenger and Sunblast Angel out on the battlefield) bounce Sunblast to wipe the board then swing with Avenger.
I've made a similar deck actually, but it was mono white. Now I'm tweaking it to include both Champion of Justice and Venser. :D

It's still too unreliable. I'll keep it as it is.

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this in the three-mile-long comments, but Ivory Giant works well with Sunblast Angel .
