I may consider it against solo creature heavy green decks. Other than that, I don't see any use for it.

You might consider swapping out Imposing Sovereign for Blind Obedience ? It can't be burned and you might be able to sometimes use the extort ability. Also, in modern it really hates against affinity decks.

I played the deck tonight and it worked really well. Against burn I was screwed but everything else I played it worked. I took out the two Blinding Beam and used the Blind Obedience and it worked awesome. Gideon's Avenger gets crazy huge and with Sleep it's basically gave over. I did not get to play the Sunblast Angel though. it seems more of the ultimate for the deck. Well done with this, I wish I could give it 100 upvotes.

Thanks! I am considering sideboarding Blind Obedience against affinity. Imposing sovereign works well for that little bit of damage though- you'd be surprised. Against burn this deck does not do well, but that's why Leyline of Sanctity is in the sideboard. Game over for burn. Thanks for taking the time to go over my deck.

+1, Nice! Any use for Halimar Depths maybe? One or two might help set-up your draws a bit better.

Serum Visions is a nice card too along with Gitaxian Probe if you want to lower your land count a bit--kind of like deck thinning fetches provide.

Anyways, main suggestion is just one or two of Halimar Depths for that slight draw set up if you can handle it coming into play tapped..
Looks fun to play!

I've been doing some playtesting. I don't like having to wait for Halimar Depths to untap, but the probe could replace Divination . Thanks for your suggestions! I'll put Gitaxian Probe to good use.

Always wanted to make a successful tap deck with beneficial end-games, this is the deck that really takes priority, have you considered Frost Breath not sure if it has been mentioned already...?

For the longest time, I did have Frost Breath , but had to get rid of it to make way for the planeswalkers and card draw. I can see why you would suggest it.

Battlefield Thaumaturge + Gridlock and Glimpse the Sun God is worth looking into your deck was the first one i thought of when i saw the combo. In case you don't know the Taumaturge makes those two spells cost 1cmc because of the wording. I don't know if it will fit that well but its certainly worth thinking about.

Cipher001 says... #11

Hmm... It would only work with those cards, but I could possibly see myself running that Battlefield Thaumaturge ... Yes... It would make Downpour a one mana card too... (unless I'm mistaken)

beakedbard says... #12

It would make all of the instances you have except Blustersquall 1 cmc through the wording each time a card targets something it costs 1 less to cast. Downpour , Blinding Beam and Feeling of Dread all costs 1cmc due to the wording.

Move aside, 2 Gitaxian Probe , make way for the Battlefield Thaumaturge s! Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Gridlock also combos with the Thaumaturge!

I had it for a short time, but decided against having it. I like Glimpse the Sun God better, and had to make room for other elements in the deck, Battlefield Thaumaturge not being a centerpiece, but rather support. I must admit, your deck appears to be able to pull it off excellently, however. Thaumatism 101 is a very interesting combination of the thaumaturge and spells like Glimpse the Sun God and Gridlock . Especially for something found in standard.

Haha, Thank you kindly i've messed around with heroic since i've been playing standard and with JIN the Thaumaturge just hit home with me =P

I like the control you have in here though, Awesome combos with Sunblast Angel +1

Thanks. Someone suggested Battlefield Thaumaturge to me earlier and I had to make use of it as well. It's a very good card, probably one of the most useful in the newest set.

How about Permafrost Trap for the sideboard against green decks. (Hint: Tarmagoyf)

I like the deck idea, but what do you do against non-creature decks?

July 30, 2014 10:36 p.m.

Roboblade604 says... #20

Yeah, I just playtested this against my Instant-Heavy RDW deck and your deck did practically nothing the entire game aside form swinging with Gideon's Avenger as a 2/2. Here is my deck. RDW! Now with Late-Game!

July 30, 2014 11:01 p.m.

Cipher001 says... #21

I'm working on a sideboard against RDW decks. It's never really meant to go against it. Every deck has its weakness. But Leyline of Sanctity would wreck RDW, would it not? Every deck has its weakness.

July 31, 2014 1:52 p.m.

Mongol says... #22

Leyline would, Assuming the burn deck has no way to remove it, though it can still remove your creatures, which could result in a tie. I'd side in some counter spells. Mana Leak , etc.

July 31, 2014 1:57 p.m.

Mongol says... #23

Also, aside from the instant or sorcery specific counter spells, maybe Redirect ?

July 31, 2014 1:59 p.m.

Roboblade604 says... #24

Cipher001 That's true, but RDW could its creature base and planeswalkers (I don't know if Leyline of Sanctity would work on planeswalkers or not) to attack after removing your creatures with the burn spells and the deck that I use has enchantment removal. But it is a good deck nonetheless. I just like pointing out flaws in things, so pay me no heed if nobody at your store plays RDW.

July 31, 2014 4:34 p.m.

Cipher001 says... #25

Roboblade604- I appreciate the constructive criticism, but I've already thought of the drawbacks against RDW. This deck, ultimately, would probably fail against it, but I don't face it too often. It's the one archetype it's just not meant to go up against. Leyline of Sanctity would help a lot though, and the RDW decks I've seen don't generally run alternative win cons with creatures or planeswalkers. They're out there, I just don't encounter them. And Mongol- that's a good suggestion, I may test it out.
