Extremely budget sliver deck that you can build for less than the cost of eating out for a week. The reason I am using Sliver Overlord as the commander instead of Sliver Hivelord or Sliver Queen is that if you have those cards in your deck, you can simply use the Overlord to tutor for them at any time.
The goal of this deck is to throw out slivers and get the Sliver Overlord out fast so that you can tutor for the essential slivers like
Crystalline Sliver
,
Syphon Sliver
, Winged Sliver,
Quick Sliver
, etc. From that point you can tutor for slivers at any point in the game, even on other players' turns, and play slivers that respond to the specific threats they're presenting.
If no specific threats on the board, you want to make sure you have a couple vital pieces in place. The Sliver Overlord, obviously, the Gemhide Sliver to be able to tap any sliver for any colour of mana, and the
Quick Sliver
should be out so that you can leave your mana up and flash in slivers as you need them, or just at the end of the last opponent's turn.
Crystalline Sliver
is vital to make you immune to spot removal, and
Crypt Sliver
or Clot Sliver will help you keep vital slivers when a board wipe comes down. If a card such as Merciless Eviction is played to exile all creatures, you still have an ace in the hole. You can use
Hibernation Sliver
, even if all your mana is tapped out, and return the vital slivers to your hand to bring your engine right back online next turn by paying around 10-14 life. It's a big price, but it's the price to stay in the game. On the following turn, if you need more life, you can tutor for and cast
Syphon Sliver
and swing into somebody to regain your lost life.
Heart Sliver
is a quality of life improvement that you can use in combination with Gemhide Sliver to play a sliver and immediately tap it for mana, allowing you to get out large amounts of slivers in a single turn.
When swinging for the win,
Shifting Sliver
is really your best bet. If you don't have the mana for him, you can use Winged Sliver and/or
Two-Headed Sliver
to make your slivers difficult to block. Slivers like
Might Sliver
,
Bonesplitter Sliver
, and Predatory Sliver really buff your slivers and while the buffs seem small, it adds up fast.
Dormant Sliver
seems lackluster, but he's a star of the deck. If you don't need to be swinging for a few turns or you have an empty hand and need to refill, play him out and start playing slivers. The amount of card draw you will get is immense, especially if you combo him with
Brood Sliver
. Swing in, and before the combat damage step, flash in
Dormant Sliver
. You will get 3-6 slivers entering the battlefield off of
Brood Sliver
or even more, and you will draw that many cards. When you need to get rid of
Dormant Sliver
to start attacking, you can either sacrifice him to Basal Sliver for some extra mana, or you can bounce him to your hand with
Hibernation Sliver
.
Even while
Dormant Sliver
is out, you can still fire off massive artillery barrages of damage by using
Psionic Sliver
in combination with Predatory Sliver,
Plated Sliver
, and Muscle Sliver. Get out some combination of buff slivers to bring your slivers all above 3 toughness, and then you can tap them to deal massive damage without needing to attack. You can play out
Lymph Sliver
instead of all the buff slivers, and as long as you have 3 slivers or more total, your slivers won't be taking any damage from
Psionic Sliver
's ability.
Hunter Sliver
and
Sidewinder Sliver
or
Venom Sliver
are great for removing blockers without needing one of the removal spells in hand.
The Amoeboid Changeling seems like a weird inclusion, but he's actually a vital piece of the deck. Because he counts as every creature type at all times, the Sliver Overlord can tutor for him. The Amoeboid Changeling can tap to give target creature (owned by anyone!) all creature types, which includes sliver. You can then activate the Sliver Overlord's ability to gain control of the creature you just made a sliver. This is a really simple, cheap combo to steal any creature that doesn't have shroud, hexproof, or protection.
Cards in the sideboard are cards that you can get from the Breed Lethality Commander 2016 deck. Cards in the maybeboard are swappable with some of the more expensive cards like Crystalline sliver to bring the cost even further down. Cards in the Aqcuireboard are cards that are NOT budget and should be upgraded to over time.
I am open to suggestions as this my first time commanding slivers.
