Having Glare of Heresy rather than Wear / Tear could be good, depending of the coming meta. Exiling a Boros Reckoner or an Elspeth is pretty nice, and it just seems like a card that would be sided in in more match-ups than a pure destroy artifact or enchantment.. just something to look out for.

The destroy artifact part has helped me against Pithing Needle , Ratchet Bomb , Chromatic Lantern , and the odd Trading Post deck. But on the other hand, most of the enchantments are white, like Detention Sphere and Assemble the Legion . And like you said, Glare of Heresy can deal with creatures and elspeth too! So ill try it out.

Yea... I would keep in Wear / Tear . The one deck i lost against was a Trading post artifact/black deck.

Also, Glare of Heresy is way too limited.

Yeah, I havent really seen graveyard decks running around, so I think it's safe to cut the Rest in Peace down a little bit, (until some reanimator deck using Whip of Erebos comes along) which leaves room for both Glare of Heresy and Wear / Tear . Additionally, Gods Willing is moving to the maindeck in place of Dauntless Onslaught , which leaves more room for the sideboard to be reconfigured.

I swapped out 2 Anax and Cymede for 2x Spear of Heliod and ran it in my local constructed night. I found having tokens coming out as 2/2 and having some effective removal from the spear to be very effective.

inmused Not a bad Idea, I'll try it in place of Favored Hoplite and see how it works. P.S., How did the deck do?

Ok. So after having taken 2nd again today. I have to say we can deal with everything except for blue/white control decks. I have never been able to win a match against one. I believe the only possible way to do so is to add like Elspeth, Sun's Champion x2 to either the main board or side board so you can keep a constant presence. Also, I took out Dauntless Onslaught for Titan's Strength it did pretty well but I'm going to try it instead for Gods Willing . I don't think theres any real need for Spear of Heliod as its kind of slow. But I'll give it a try too.

I ran it as an uncompleted deck (some substitution) on Wednesday and ran 9th, but bear in mind that that is my best placed night ever. I have some giants playing at my shop. Control was my worst matchup.

Here is my take on your deck: Heroic Weenies

Oh, by the way, I hardly understand why are Scry lands in here for the aggro deck. You don't want to slow down yourself with land that comes into play tapped.

DannyG: Although these arent ideal, the mana fixing was necessary in a deck that is mostly red and has a mana cost of WW (Phalanx Leader ). And to be honest, I kind of like them. The scry is nice in a deck like this that needs the ideal balance of spells and creatures.

October 6, 2013 7:29 a.m.

suicidelg says... #12

Thats exactly why i don't run Fabled Hero because sometimes I even have trouble getting out Phalanx Leader

October 6, 2013 11:16 a.m.

inmused says... #13

I adjusted my land in Heroic Weenies to be slightly biased towards plains so to compensate for the WW drops of Phalanx Leader and Spear of Heliod .

Heroes of Anax and Cymede I did get to test out my version against some W/B control the other night. I must say I do like how the deck works, but one of the biggest issues for me was enemy flyers. He would throw down a Hopeful Eidolon with an enchantment on it that would give it +1/+1 for each enchantment in play, turning his Eidolon into a 3/3 flyer with lifelink. I would say the matches went pretty much 50/50 - when I would win, it would just be utter domination, but when I lost it was pretty much due to the flyers/obzedat/blood baron/ and the demon that makes you sacrifice a creature each combat to keep him tapped. Like I said, the deck works VERY VERY well, if you get the jump first. As always, I appreciate the upvotes/criticism - I'd like to see this be a top contender in the Standard matches! Thanks again guys!

Alright, tested a modified version of this deck at a FNM, went 2-2.

Playing this, I feel there's a lot of potential, but right now this list has a lot of dead cards.

Cards I'd remove would be the following:

Young Pyromancer: This card is just too slow for this deck. Yes if you get a perfect draw and a perfect setup it works, but in reality it makes this deck try to do too much at the same time. Realistically this needs to be played T2/3 for it to be useful, but there are loads of more cards that you would prefer to have drawn instead that advance your board state far faster (A phalanx leader, any 1 mana drop, any of the heroic enablers). It just takes too long for young pyromancer to get anything done.

Flames of the firebrand. Not as good as I thought it would be. Too slow and situational.

Magma Jet -2: This card IS good, but overall, you want more agression than simply 2 points of damage. The scry is amazing, so we should keep 2 in the deck. (And move two others to the sideboard if needed)

Anax and Cymede -2: This IS an amazing card, however removing 1 or two of these cards, allows for you to add 2X spear of heliod, which not only does basically the same thing without an enabler (For mostly the same cost), but allows you a 100% chance to win any race that's going on AND gives you less dead draws.

I took this to my 5 round FNM on friday, duh! And here were my results.

(0-2) loss to BIG RED. There was too much removal to get damage through. Also Anger of the Gods wrecked me both games to seal the deal.

(1-1-1) draw with a superfriends (RBU) kill spell and planeswalker deck. Hit some terrible draws in game 3 to end in that draw.

(2-0) against a mono green hydra/colossus deck. He was too slow to deal with the agro. Also sided in 4x Chained to the Rocks to deal with the big stuff.

(2-0) against a unfinished golgari mid range deck. He didn't really have it together at all that night.

(0-2) loss to green white beat down. Was not fast enough to deal with experiment one, Fleecemane Lion and advent wurm tokens. Also loxodon smiter is a dick!!

anyway I have since taken out the Dauntless Onslaught s because they are too slow. Going to look into more cheap targeting spells to get those triggers off. I agree that young pyromancer is a bit slow and only works great on nut draws. Also I made a slight adjustment with Soldier of the Pantheon this guy is a stud and should be reconsidered. Let me know if you have any questions.

Personally taking out young pyromancer would not be a good idea and would be changing what this deck does fundamentally. I would rather replace the dauntless onslaught with 2x spears and a gods willing. Or at the very most -1 Ajax to add another gods willing

Will be testing a slightly modified version of Superheroes tonight at Wednesday Night Magic (our FNM is draft).

Heroic Weenies for Testing

Still to acquire a few cards to make a complete desired deck so I am substituting Sacred Foundry and Temple of Triumph with Boros Guildgate . Some of my sideboard will be borrowed.

Will report findings tonight. I expect to go up against some Esper Control, Mono Red, R/G Ramped decks.

So I've been informed that this type of red/white deck will be very popular, at least at the scg Milwaukee. So I'm wondering what you guys think of mirror matches? Will Boris Reckoners, gods Willings, mizzium mortars and elspeths be enough in the side deck? Lol... now that I think about it that sounds like a lot. Maybe no need to side in Elspeth against a mirror match.

I still kind of feel this deck lacks something. I don't like having t1 drop for R and then the most wanted t2 drop being WW. It forces you to use more fixing with scrylands which slow down your tempo. Why not just get rid of Akroan Crusader and replace it with other white t1 drops? (Dryad Militant , Boros Elite , Soldier of the Pantheon ) The fact that deck is based over heroic mechanic doesn't mean you need to have pretty much all your creatures having heroic. Put only the ones that brings the most impact, which is Phalanx Leader and Anax and Cymede . Fabled Hero might also be one if you like, but isn't essential for this purpose. My suggestion is still to cut off scry lands, so you won't be loosing tempo because of playing tapped land and fix your curve torwards white in terms of creatures.

That sounds interesting... I think the only one of those I would want to use would be soldier of the pantheon. Maybe 3x of those and bump up favored hoplite to 3x. I'll try testing it out. Question though... can soldier be targeted by my own multiple colored spells? If not then this is a no go.

You only have Boros Charm out of multicolored spells, and how many situations there is when you gonna give this guy doublestrike?

October 10, 2013 4:11 p.m.

DannyG says... #25

Oh and there is Martial Glory too, but again, you want it to trigger heroics, so he't not gonna be targeted by it often too.
