Sure I'd love to get a few ideas to have it running at full power!

Tried out a few changes, cutting the Hypersonic Dragon s for an additional Mercurial Chemister and Gruul Ragebeast along with some other minor tweaks. It played well, actually winning 2-1 against this version in testing. Only problem that arose was getting killed the one game by the card I took out, as the dragon came down with 2 Master Biomancer in play.

Should I continue to heed the issue with large flyers by throwing down my own or make those switches and move into more of a janky midrange control look?

Wow this thing looks crazy fun! I might just have to steal it for a tournament or 2....or 3 haha. Definite props! Master Biomancer = Favorite card ever.

Thanks! I had designs at one point of throwing Master Biomancer and Deadeye Navigator along with the Zealous Conscripts + Gilded Lotus infinite mana loop to continuously flicker the smallest Biomancer on the field and have it come back with a larger number of counters. Thus creating a team of infinitely powered Master Biomancer s!

I never got the idea off the ground though, and then I decided to start cooking up something for post rotation. It's only fitting that Master Biomancer found its way into the core of the deck! Niv-Mizzle knows a good thing when he sees it.

wish i could afford it but i only have like 5 of these cards this deck is the best ive ever seen this is a deck im trying to put together something with awesome combos that can win if anybody is kind enough at my card shop will trade with me just about all of these cards!! i love i cant even use words im jealous because i do not have any of these cards :(

I did a bit of trading for it but fortunately Ral Zarek 's been the most expensive card I've had to pick up since I already collected all the lands. Guess Stormbreath Dragon might fly up in price so I'll probably have to pick it up quickly.

Colossus of Akros would also be an awesome genius discard. :)

That might be a possibility. I didn't really want to overload the Blast of Genius idea as I may only get one shot to pull it off, so I didn't start tossing every high cost card I could into the deck. Worldspine Wurm is especially nice because it recycles itself for me, but I figure Gruul Ragebeast and other Blast of Genius are still respectable discard choices.

I would actually suggest taking out Blast of Genius, and adding in more mercurial chemist, as his effect is repeatable, and you can also draw with him. Steam Augury and Magma Jet would also be good additions. Otherwise, I love it.

Blast of Genius is where the deck got its name though. I know the Chemister is better for reusable card advantage, but his discard ability only targets creatures. The effect I get out of Blast is card draw and the opportunity to take a large chunk off my opponent's life total all in one.

Steam Augury and Magma Jet will probably be working nicely in American or RUG control, but I guess this is more of janky RUG midrange. I like that Fact or Fiction 's getting a near effective reprint. Only problem I see with Steam Augury though is the fact that your opponent can choose which pile you're not getting.

What are your thoughts on Anger of the Gods as a replacement for Mizzium Mortars ?

Also I've been playtesting this deck a lot on Cockatrice and I'm in love with it. It's flavorful and powerful at the same time. Keep updating us!

Thanks! I had considered Anger of the Gods and then when I tested it I never felt like casting it because it wiped out my mana dorks. While Mizzium Mortars is more costly to overload, it has no drawbacks on my end and can also take out a single target in a pinch.

I really like how it's come together so far. Any sideboard suggestions would also be appreciated. :)

You could really use more scry to help put all of your combos together. Have you thought of Magma Jet instead of Mizzium Mortars?

September 24, 2013 4:50 p.m.

Zykes says... #14

Yuval, the greatest advantage to Mizzium Mortars is to be able to deal with Bant/Naya Hexproof decks as well as wreck aggro decks.

Yeah, you're right emrakool Now that I think of it, Anger of the Gods is the poorer choice. I forgot that it hit your creatures too. May I ask the reasoning for your sideboard choices?

The current decks I have the most problems with are RDW and other aggro types. At that point it all depends if I can get the Sylvan Caryatid to block while I delay for the mana and wait for me to draw the Mortars. If neither of those happen, I lose. I think the sideboard should have things to slow down RDW decks. As to what those cards are, I'm still thinking about.

Omenspeaker looks like it would fit in nicely having the same stopping power as the Sylvan Caryatid , plus its scry fits your combos well.

drop the Gruul Ragebeast

Emrakool says... #17

I haven't had the chance to do extensive playtesting against the RTR/Theros aggro, etc. so the sideboard's more like a jumbled bunch of random stuff. In pre-rotation matchups aggro generally was the problem, with RDW/Naya Blitz being about 50-50/40-60 before sideboards. What hurt the most was lots of small/medium flyers coming at me.

@CW, I may consider it though I didn't actually lose any drawing power with Theros coming in, actually I gained a bit from the scry lands. As far as I'm concerned though Gruul Ragebeast is bad enough to be good in this deck. :)

Zykes says... #18

Gruul Ragebeast seemed to have gotten great use during my playtests. I either cast it when I need it or Blast it when I don't. While the deck gives you the impression that you need luck to win (Blast/Unexpected Results) I feel that if done smartly, you don't actually need luck. I usually play Blast when I already have a Wurm or something else in my hand. At that point it's just a matter of telling myself "Yes, I'd love 3 cards and to deal 6-11 damage." There are the occasions where I'm down on my knees and I have nothing left and I'll blast just to see what happens..I've actually won a match that way, but that's the genius of the deck.

Omenspeaker may be useful in side board to stop aggro decks. In that circumstance I'd sideboard it in. There has to be other ways to deal with aggro however.

One of the most original deck ideas I have ever seen. +1 and saved.

Sir_Muffins says... #20

have you thought of running Anger of the Gods over or with Mizzium Mortars ?

September 24, 2013 11:07 p.m.

Emrakool says... #21

I really ought to thank someone for that compliment!

@Sir_Muffins, I had considered it my only issue with Anger of the Gods is that it wipes out my mana dorks in the process. Mortars can deal with whatever's taking the biggest chunks out of me before I can afford the 3RRR, Sylvan Caryatid can chump the smaller stuff, and usually once I drop Master Biomancer or anything else with a sizable backside things start to stabilize and turn in my favor.

Steam Augury and Jace, Architect of Thought ? They'd help you seek out either the Mercurial Chemister s, Worldspine Wurm s, and Blast of Genius without having to tutor or wait super long; digging is always fun. I think 23 creatures might be a little too much, but it seems like an excellent deck!

September 25, 2013 1:43 a.m.

Emrakool says... #23

Jace might be an idea, though he doesn't really give the advantage I'd like against aggro. Steam Augury I dislike for the reason I mentioned above. I don't like it when my opponent chooses which card I get. The other benefit of this deck is my late game consists of a pseudo-control, utilizing Gruul Ragebeast and Master Biomancer to blast away any threats. So usually unless I'm dealing with a ton of straight burn, this deck can afford to wait super long at times.

Hmm, I seem to also be having trouble with monoblack since theros brought too many good black cards.

Emrakool says... #25

Which were the problem black cards? I been working 60 hour weeks lately haven't had much time for testing.
