Desecration Demon and Reaper of the Wilds mainly. Basically creatures that have greater than 4 toughness.

In addition to being great on its own, Prognostic Sphinx could help to ensure that Unexpected Results pays off more often than not. I think Garruk, Caller of Beasts is worthy of consideration, as well.

Awesome deck. Very creative. +1

how about Ogre Battledriver mercurial chemister with haste!

GSalty Unexpected Results requires you to shuffle your library before revealing a card. Scrying is only useful for Blast of Genius.

Ah, so it does. My mistake.

So more play testing: There are decks that I face that I'm like "Man, I wish I had counters in my sideboard to fight this guy" It doesn't just have to be counters but any elements of control/removal. Plasm Capture is a bit too expensive for when it matters. I think the sideboard should be something like this with these reasons:

4 Dissolve : There are times where you just have to counter something, and having 4 gives you the % to draw them when you need them.4 Destructive Revelry : Theros is very enchantment/artifact heavy. These can kill enchanted creatures and deal some damage. 2 Omenspeaker : When you need a little extra blocking power against aggro decks. The scry is a big bonus/3 Scavenging Ooze : With Whip of Erebos and other reanimators, you need something to prevent that. They also provide blocking versus aggro2 Cyclonic Rift : With enchantments being attached to things, this will allow for you to bounce a creature and kill some enchants. They're generally useful for other things as well.

What does everyone think? Are there better removal/control cards in RUG than these?

Hmm, now I'm thinking...

Simic Charm vs Cyclonic Rift

Also, Wild Ricochet seems crazy enough to be apart of this deck as well.

The other question is. When you sideboard out cards, which are the go to cards to remove?

Plasm Capture is very good! Zykes Dissolve & Scavenging Ooze i think will only slow this deck. i agree with that this deck need some reanimator,1x Underworld Cerberus would be enough perhaps? like GSalty said Garruk, Caller of Beasts , imagine Worldspine Wurm is free to cast!!, or maybe Xenagos, The Reveler , i think those are better in this deck compare to Ral Zarek

@SKOOP, it was reanimator hate Zykes is talking about. This deck's designed to play a janky midrange-control game and win after things stabilize.

@Zykes, I think depending on matchups I'd be looking at Chromatic Lantern or Elvish Mystic (though not both), maybe a Gruul Ragebeast , Mizzium Mortars , Niv-Mizzet, and Unexpected Results as things I'd consider swapping out. What do you think of Curse of the Swine ? Outside of Mortars, RUG is lacking a good board wipe. This at least turns a few big problems into manageable problems.

@SKOOP I'll definitely play test Plasm Capture vs Dissolve but from my experience thus far it's usually turn 3 where I want to start preventing things from happening. Underworld Cerberus doesn't get rid of reanimators permanently and is too expensive for when it actually matters. Garruk, Caller of Beasts can summon 3 meaningful creatures in the deck (ragebeast, wurm, biomancer) but it's +1 ability has a really awful effect on the deck. Imagine discarding a blast of genius when you need it. This isn't a zerg creature deck, it's controlling, ramping, and when it's beneficial direct damage + card advantage with blast of genius. I like Ral Zarek He provides removal, extra mana, extra taps of mercurial, can prevent a player from doing something on your turn by tapping opponents permanents. He works.

@emrakool Yeah, Ragebeast is the first card I go for. I bring those down to 2. then I take 1 or 2 lanterns out, then Niv-Mizzet, and maybe 1 Blast of Genius, but I'll try what you suggested as well.

I was considering Curse of the Swine and I think that's our only option for straight up removal of big problems (basically creatures above 4 toughness) I'm thinking about what to remove in the sb for it.

Trying out Witchstalker in place of Elvish Mystic now. Mystic feels like a dead draw early unless I get something worth casting Turn 3 in my hand. Witchstalker at least provides a solid body against aggro, and a hard one to get rid of at that.

Doesn't AEtherling lose his counters when you exile him? So when he re-enters the battlefield, he would just get the # of counters equal to Master Biomancer 's power.

October 2, 2013 1:03 a.m.

Emrakool says... #15

If the Master Biomancer leaves play then AEtherling would return with no counters. But if I have one in play, then play a 2nd and exile AEtherling it'll come back with six +1/+1 counters instead of two.

October 2, 2013 1:09 a.m.

FinnHawk says... #16

Yeah, if you have 2 Master Biomancer s in play, then yes, it's super counter time! But that goes for any deck with 4 Master Biomancer's and almost any creatures. Altho, aetherling is definitely better than most...

Seems reasonable about elvish mystic, but why Thespian's Stage and Nykthos?

October 3, 2013 9:44 p.m.

Emrakool says... #18

Just playing around with the mana a bit. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx might help get the Wurm out in play a couple turns earlier. Not sure if I'm going to run with it though.

October 3, 2013 9:48 p.m.

Zykes says... #19

Yeah, most of the time I don't think it would do anything and I'd personally would want another dual land. Thespian's Stage would have been cool back when we had cool lands like Alchemist's Refuge, THieve's pass and Cavern of Souls, but now I feel like it's dead weight.

I also ordered all the cards for this deck. I look forward to playing it at an FNM soon when I receive everything!

I thought about Izzet Guildgate , which would balance things out more completely but I wasn't sure if I wanted to be stuck with another ETB tapped land.

October 3, 2013 10:16 p.m.

Zykes says... #21

If you wanted more land, you could leave it the way you had it before and just add a steam vents

October 3, 2013 10:32 p.m.

Emrakool says... #22

I was at 23 lands with the 3rd Gruul Ragebeast in the deck. Went to 24 since I'm cutting Elvish Mystic . Or should I stick to 23?

Just pulled a shiny Stormbreath Dragon ! The deck's now complete and ready to go live. :)

Thanks everyone for the feedback and positive reviews!

Oddly enough the card that kicked my ass last night was Desecration Demon . I've decided to reinstate Turn / Burn to the deck. Also trying out Primeval Bounty in place of an AEtherling now. Its abilities seem to be very relevant here, and it provides me with a bit of the life gain I desperately lack.

This deck is great. It never ceases to amaze me how someone else's standard R/U/G deck could be so different from mine (Hyperpumping) in form and function. That's what makes this game so fun.
