Thanks Cadmeus! I've really enjoyed the utility I get now out of Kiora's Follower and the Temples. Xenagos, The Reveler has been great too, especially for casting multiple spells when I get my card draw set up.

Last night I was playing two-headed giant and hit Blast of Genius off Unexpected Results on Turn 3. Before I chose targets I showed my teammate my hand and asked if he wanted me to take out a creature or hit our opponents with a discarded Enter the Infinite . The look on his face was priceless.

wow that's crazy I really enjoy the deck! How is it against RDW? or mono black????

Thanks! RDW and the like had been a problem for me, but Anger of the Gods has really helped me even things up. Master Biomancer and Primeval Bounty have also proven effective at slowing them down even though they show up a little later. I haven't played much yet against the Mono Black Devotion decks until recently. Usually if I can stick Mercurial Chemister or Stormbreath Dragon and keep them around a few turns I can stay in the race.

Some of my tougher matches pre-sideboard have been against Gruul Midrange (especially bloodrush decks) and Azorius or Esper Control. If I can hit my card draw early I can probably hang with the latter for a bit.

Righto mate, it's built and ready for Standard tomorrow. But I have tweaked it slightly, as I love Possibility Storm far too much!! I switched in three in place of 2 Anger of the Gods and a Primeval Bounty . Also bumped up to 2 Borbor, simply because I could Storm into him far too early and have him annihilated. And just to add to the theme of lucky shenanigans I've run two Chandra, Pyromaster for her -7.

We shall see how it goes!! I love janky nonsense!!

Is this a good competitive deck? Also, would it do good at fnm?

March 11, 2014 9:40 p.m.

Emrakool says... #6

It's definitely not a Tier 1 build, and since it's so unpredictable I'd say it may take a little luck and some more favorable matchups to make a top 4. But it is certainly janky and hella fun to pilot.

I played with this deck at FNM last week and went 4-1 with this deck. I beat a mono black devotion, and U/B control. Emrakool I thank you for something so spectacular. PEOPLE AT FNM CAN'T STOP THE RAMP!

@DonkeyPunch: That's awesome! I'm assuming you placed Top 4?

I've had some success against MBD and control too. As long as I don't overextend I can keep pace with threats and resources. Mostly one of my tougher matches has been outracing my friend's Gruul deck. I should probably look into SB options for dealing with bloodrush and reach.

You should consider running a couple Kiora, the Crashing Wave because while she may not ramp as steadily as Xenagos, she's got 2 Explore , a Fog effect, and is effectively a win-condition on her own.

I like Kiora, but I'm not sure if I have the means to protect her here. Or at least by the time I could I don't think she'd have enough of an immediate impact to play her.

This is awesome! And double points for the Grandma's Boy references!

On a sidenote, can I get your opinion? I'm thinking of getting metal legs. It's a risky operation, but it'll be worth it.

Since seeing this deck I've been thinking about Blast of Genius abuse and how to pull it off. So tell us, how do you use your sideboard? What comes out and what goes in for each major matchup? And have you run this at your LGS yet? How did it do recently? Very creative. +1

@Ninjarigma: People will bow to them.

@Apoptosis: I guess despite DonkeyPunch's 4-1 FNM romp it hasn't seen much competitive action. Zykes also piloted an older version which got featured in an article. He didn't do too well if I remember correctly, I'll try to post a link to the article in the deck description at some point.

Mainly I'm limited to kitchen table action thanks to my work schedule, but I've had this deck do fairly well and win a few matches it had no business winning. So I haven't really gotten to try out the SB much, though I'd like to include something to help against Gruul Midrange as it's been one of my weaker matchups. The other inclusions were to either take a more aggro route against control, and a little artifact/enchantment hate (if that's necessary). I am open to suggestions for it.

So, how competitive is this really?

March 16, 2014 7:06 p.m.

Emrakool says... #16

@Quadsimotto: Hey, chill bro. You know you can't raise your voice like that when the lion is here.

@SpaderAce: It's not Tier 1 by any means, so don't expect to see it popping up all over Top 8s. All I know is one of its biggest strengths and weaknesses is its unpredictability, and that's also one of the main reasons it's fun. So it can win, it won't always win, but I enjoy playing it nonetheless.

finally someone realizes how good primeval bounty is

March 18, 2014 1:58 a.m.

Emrakool says... #18

Thanks shadow63! I freaking love Primeval Bounty . Sure it's expensive to cast, but once it's out it can and will change the board state in a hurry.

I read the article linked above and that was pretty cool too. to have your deck featured like that. I would be stoked man.

It was definitely cool to see. That first quoted line made me giddy.

Wow...just wow. Bravo! I have always prided myself in playing strange/unpredictable decks but this one is truly amazing. I have been a firm believer that the more intricate sneaky ways you win the more fun you have doing it. Awesome deck!

DonkeyPunch says... #22

@Emrakool The only difference with my deck is that instead of running two Primeval Bounty I run 1 and replaced the other with Garruk Caller of the Beasts. I pulled him and was what the hey! He really helped when it came to getting Borborygmos and Worldspine Wurm out.

April 3, 2014 4:44 p.m.

Emrakool says... #23

I've thought about using Garruk. Primeval Bounty 's just been such a fun card for the wonky effects it brings to the table that I wanted to make sure I had a decent chance of drawing it. Not to mention planeswalker hate's starting to become more and more prevalent in Standard, whereas enchantment hate usually runs out of opposing SBs if at all.

Good deck, but it seems pretty slow. How does it hold up at FNM?

May 26, 2014 9:14 a.m.

Emrakool says... #25

DonkeyPunch said they went 4-1 with it. I really haven't had the chance to test it one on one except at the kitchen table, but I freaking love playing it. It plays to survive til late game and then win, but I really could use some SB help against other midrange decks. Once the 4/4s and bigger start hitting the board if I can't establish some control against them it starts to fall apart.

Usually if I get Master Biomancer /Primeval Bounty or Mercurial Chemister + Kiora's Follower I can start to hold my own against larger creatures.
