Sideboard

HEY GUYS! How are you doing? This deck is based off of a modern formatted deck my friend was playing. I took a look and noticed that with a little tweaking, the deck could be a fun deck to play in standard. I found out that the deck wasn't that expensive, about 100$ without any advanced dual or shock lands, and I found out I had most of the cards laying around to build it. So, I built it. To my surprise, it worked exceptionally well, winning between turns 4 and 7 over 90% of the time. So I took it to an FNM to see how it would stack up. To my surprise, I came in fourth! The next week, I came in second! I would appreciate any help you guys can offer so I can improve the deck even more. Like I said earlier, the deck's not really super expensive for a competitive standard deck, so if you wanna give it a spin at your local FNM give it a try and tell me how it works out! NOW, without further ado...

How it works: We come out of the gates ramping. HARD ramping. Arbor Elf, Scorned Villager, Elvish Archdruid, and Gilded Lotus provide lots of mana, and we should have at least 7 mana by turn 4 easy, and if not, by turn 5. Now, we could just trample them with a Thragtusk or a Beastmaster + Craterhoof combo, but what's the fun in that? The real fun begins when you cast Diabolic Revelations for 8. We pull the Primal Surge and the other 2 Diabolics from our deck. Next turn, our whole deck comes onto the field with Primal Surge. Craterhoof and Bell-Ringer triggers go onto the stack. Since they don't trigger until after Primal Surge finishes resolving, you now control a ton of creatures who get over +20/+20 from Craterhoof. We then flicker Craterhoof with Restoration. Akroma's Memorial gives them haste. Champion of Lambholt makes them UNBLOCKABLE. We turn our creatures sideways. Beastmaster triggers go on the stack. Our creatures get +46/+46, then +87/+87, then +184/+184. Altogether, our creatures get +317/+317. Opponent's head spontaneously combusts. We laugh maniacally. Of course, it doesn't always work out like that, but you should still be able to cast staple cards like Thragtusk aand Wolfir Silverheart. That should be enough to win you the game. But Sword, wait! you're thinking. What happens if they Fog or Moonmist ? Then you'll just get milled out next turn, right? Wrong. If they Moonmist , my Scorned Villager   s will flip and deal over 1200 damage anyway. If they Fog, then it's Undercity Informer's time to shine. We can trigger his ability 26+ times with all the mana we just acquired, and if your opponent is playing with over 26 lands in his deck at turn 5, one of you is doing something wrong. A final solution to these problems is just choose not to reveal the last few cards on the bottom of your deck, but that's boring.

Thanks for checking my deck out guys! Don't forget to +1!

After running this a couple of times through FNM's and the like, I have found a unique trick that almost always ensures round 2 and 3 wins. Here's how it works:

I call this the DECKSHIFTER STRATEGY!!! So far it always, 100% of the time, never failed yet COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN ANY SIDEBOARD STRATEGIES AND KNOWLEDGE OF MY DECK. It basically completely changes how my deck works, in regards to both strategy and color. Of course, if the deck you were playing round 1 got completely crushed by you, their isn't necessarily a need to use this strategy. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! So just sideboard in some small updates, like Loxodon Smiter against control, Centaur Healer for aggro... (Surprisingly this deck has a really good match-up against aggro)

So, anyway, this is how it works:

Game 1: Run the deck as normal...

Game 2: Completely change the Primal Surge theme into a GW Ramp theme!

What to do:

-1x Primal Surge (Or leave it in for fun if you aren't under a ton of pressure)

-3x Diabolic Revelations

-1x Undercity Informer

-4x Swamp

-2x Golgari Guildgate

-2x Gilded Lotus

-2x Elvish Archdruid

+4x Centaur Healer

+5x Plains

+2x Entreat the Angels

+3x Loxodon Smiter

+1x Wolfir Silverheart
