I played mono-black at the M14 prerelease and went 3-2. There and during spoiler season I noticed many black cards that would work in mono black. This led me to beleive that an actual standard black deck with the right cards can be viable.

This deck is based around amassing large amounts of swamps and using Liliana of the Dark Realms and Liliana's Shade. Then when there are lots of swamps, pop a  Corrupt or play a Nightmare to deal tons of damage. The playset of Staff of the Death Magus is needed to sustain they early game, where this deck is weakest.
