I switched it up a bit, I took out Guardian of the Ages since he's meh. And put Garruk, Caller of Beasts in its stead. Also removed 1 Ordeal of Nylea for Worldspine Wurm since I actually have one haha

+1.May I ask what Whip of Erebos is doing in your sideboard?

Seten in all honesty it was lack of a better idea, but now I think it would be useful for the lifelink and the creature return since any color mana is easy to get

With so many views, I'm surprised this only has 34 up votes. Awesome deck though! Manaramp is so useful for hydras.

And do I detect a possible VeggieTales reference in the name?

Nalfaro hahaha thanks, and I'm surprised too. And I have no idea if I made an inadvertent veggietales reference.

I really like the mana-ramp concept, particularly using the Axebane Guardian /Sylvan Caryatid /Guardians of Meletis combo.

I was wondering why you weren't using other green monstrous creatures like the Arbor Colossus , the Nessian Asp , or even the Polis Crusher . Seems like this deck would be brilliant for any of them. Also, why Gyre Sage over something like Karametra's Acolyte ?

How do you find you do against control? I ran this a few times against my mono-red burn, and while the mono-red burn won about 70% of the time, when this deck did it's thing, it was a little startling. What are your weaker match-ups, what are it's strengths.

MidnightAge yeah, mono red burn is this decks weakness for sure if you can get Bow of Nylea out day enough to drop counters on people. I chose Gyre Sage over Karametra's Acolyte because, gyre sages power and toughness increase to produce more mana, making a more hardy mana source against burn. And I really only picked creatures that could benefit from lots of mana for X or Colossus of Akros 10 mana monstrous. After playing against my friends mono red burn a few times, I found that sideboarding in Alpha Authority , Elixir of Immortality and Whip of Erebos in place of Ordeal of Nylea , Worldspine Wurm , and Garruk, Caller of Beasts really messed him up. As soon add he ran out of steam I ran all over him. :)

This is really fantastic! It always gives me joy to see a mono-green that actually works. I'm going to build this and play some tabletops with my friends to teach them to hate mono-green colossees/ssi/suses again. Punched the upvote button.

Yeah, okay. I think this deck actually sounds/feels like a lot of fun, but I think is a bit fragile in some ways. It demonstrates exceptional reliance on the mana-ramp to approach any kind of win condition, which makes it very vulnerable to any kind of field control deck, be it burn or removal, and control will be a common rival in most local metagames. It is really satisfying when it does it's thing, though. Seeing the Colossus of Akros b-slap someone as a twenty-twenty trampler is pretty hilarious. And it's pretty potent against rush or other midrange decks.

I've put this deck together on Magic Online; I notice about as often as not, I get rampless opening hands, forcing me to mulligan for some kind of mana generator. There's really not a lot to be done about that, but it can be unfortunate.

I also found I honestly didn't need or use Garruk, Caller of Beasts (he felt more gimmick in this deck than a value draw) and ended up pulling him out for two Arbor Colossus -- a bit more flying protection, which I discovered was a bit of a weak spot. I considered two more Sylvan Primordial just for the drop ability (love that I can do away with a planeswalker with that guy), but I found that extra two mana could be life or death versus a heavy flier/avoidance deck (such as the current white weenie rush decks) and the Monstrosity effect of the Arbor Colossus was something else to pour all that available mana in to. I also ended up exchanging two Plummet for the two Serene Remembrance in the sideboard for largely the same flying-killer reasons. Finally, I replaced the two Fade into Antiquity with two Sundering Growth , because the latter is instant and because it has the potential to toss me an extra beast token.

Overall, I really enjoyed playing this deck. With it's weakness against field control, however, I think I'd be really nervous taking it to a local FNM and hoping to compete. Our meta is just saturated with field control. That said, this would pair amazingly well with any kind of field control for a two-headed giant tourney.

MidnightAge I took out 1 Forest and Worldspine Wurm for 2 Garruk's Horde this way I won't have any wasted mana after I run out of cards in my hand, whatcha think?

October 13, 2013 10:15 p.m.

Hmn. I'll try modding MO deck and give it a whirl, let you know how it goes. It sounds good on the surface -- Garruk's Horde is "inexpensive" enough that you can cast it even if your ramp gets wrecked, and it adds some faux card advantage/draw speed to the deck. It also lets you line up at least one card to see if using Garruk, Caller of Beasts +1 is going to pay dividends. Seems like a positive move.

Though I will admit, completely on irrational bias, I really like Worldspine Wurm in this deck. This is one of the first decks I have seen where that sucker not only has an actual, definitive, realistic chance of hitting the field, but he serves the purpose of being a powerful win condition. The only real problem I have with it is that, without Savage Summoning , it's ripe for Essence Scatter the moment the opponent knows you have it.

Instead of a Forest and the Worldspine Wurm , I might have taken out the Ordeal of Nylea instead. I know it has the potential to power up your Gyre Sage and land fetch, but I honestly don't feel like they really serve the deck. Primeval Bounty already boosts your counter production, and if your mana ramp is even half-way functional, the lands are icing on the cake at best. I've found that I honestly don't do a lot of early aggression, where I feel like Ordeal of Nylea shines best. I've been sitting on my heels until mid-game when I get out bigger creatures. And by then, ideally, the effects of the Ordeal of Nylea are somewhat trivial.

I really do like this deck. I think it has a great, unconventional twist on a standard green playstyle (the Defender ramp is just really, really clever -- I probably wouldn't have thought about using the Guardians of Meletis ). I definitely plan on putting the physical deck together. I still worry that it'd be too fragile for my local FNM meta. But holy hell is it fun to play when it gets cranking.

I suppose you are right about the ordeals, I'm gonna mainboard three Alpha Authority and drop another forest instead of them since people like to take out Axebane Guardian before anything.

Why are you not playing Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx?!?!?!? That card is the best card in standard right now!

Fal1entrixt3r says... #19

I don't have a good reason for that hahaha it has occurred to me, just never made the change, I wanna test play if it's viable in this deck though with so few basic lands already.

Nice Deck! +1 from me. I made a similar deck like this, but it wasn't mono green. With Axebane Guardian and Sylvan Caryatid , you can run whatever color you want in it. You could trick your opponent with a mono main, then side multicolor cards in after.

Exxxactly Shoken808 that's why I tossed Whip of Erebos in there.

Haha, good call! I put a few Debt to the Deathless in mine. Some turns late game, it can feel like its to much mana. I figure why not use it to just end the game, hehe.

That's not a half bad plan! I tossed in Garruk's Horde so I can play all my creatures and no mana is wasted

Absolutly need Karametra's Acolyte in here, soo much mana can be generated from 1 of these guys also being mono green its kinda a needed card.
