Anybody got any thoughts on the Dust Stalker slot? Wondering if either Hero of Oxid Ridge, Hellrider or maybe Restoration Angel for the dark dwellers synergy.

Currently got dust stalker as it's devoid, and I think we maybe vulnerable to Auriok Champion, Phyrexian Obliterator and the like because of BWR. That and we need something to strike quickly when there's an opening to support Zurgo

Mindwrack Demon Was the other potentially synergistic card I was thinking of.

I personally enjoy Dust Stalker in this brew. Without HS its surprise damage with evasion. With HS, bonkers.

and unexpected for sure.

Master of Cruelties could be considered, since he doesn't need power to activate his ability? 3 drop insta win potential with HS out.

and personally...if I saw sin prodder reveal a MoC...id take the 5 most of the time

April 19, 2016 7:01 a.m.

Hero of Oxid Ridge may be a good add because Sword of the Meek is unbanned.

April 19, 2016 11:28 a.m.

Master of Cruelties isn't that great without power because they can just block the 0 all day.

How do you feel about Ankle Shanker?

April 19, 2016 12:22 p.m.

Falkenrath Noble or Thundermaw Hellkite seem solid. Thundermaw also wipes out thopters.

April 19, 2016 12:28 p.m.

I meant Falkenrath Aristocrat, my bad.

Falkenrath Aristocrat straight up dies with HS out.

Id def sideboard 2x Thundermaw Hellkite

The curve in this deck is too high. I playtested it a few times, and if you didn't get Heartless Summoning, you simply lost. Basically, if your opponent can't stop you, the engines in here will win you the game, but if your opponent disrupts your engines or if you don't draw them, then you just lose.

Nahiri, the Harbinger might help fix this. Nahiri's loot allows you to discard the 2nd GDD in your hand that you don't have the mana for to try and fine an answer.

I'd also drop the curve of the creatures a little. This isn't standard; your games won't go long enough to play more than 3 big creatures, and you shouldn't need more than 1 or 2 to actually win the game.

Athreos is most certainly win-more, if even that. Dust Stalker dies to bolt. It does have some impressive attacks with Heartless Summoning, but it can't play any defense because of its bounce ability, so in any matchup where the opponent is more aggressive than you, which is any matchup except Tron, BW Tokens, BGx, and Grixis Control, Dust Stalker will be the last card you want to see.

Zurgo Helmsmasher suffers from the same problem. Against Burn, Affinity, Merfolk, or anything else aggressive, it's simply too aggressive.

This deck should be playing 3 Inquisition of Kozilek and 2 Thoughtseize. Hand disruption is super important.

Desecration Demon just cuz I enjoy the fact that it is a 2 mana 5/5 flyer with Heartless Summoning. Also, Myr Superion is a must have in all Heartless Summoning decks.

Hey ToolmasterOfBrainerd. Makes sense. Were you thinking drop all 3 of dust stalker, Athreos, and Zurgo for the disruption and a different finisher?

If we wanted to lower the curve. Tidehollow sculler or sin collector? Or even wall of omens?

Thunderbreak Regent, Massacre Wurm or Stormbreath Dragon\Hellkite Tyrant depending on matchup?

So ToolmasterOfBrainerd's testing confirmed what I've found on previous heartless brews, that it's pretty much a case of land the engine or bust. So trying a few ideas:

1st idea. Add in IOK and Thoughtseize as hand disruption. Add in Lingering Souls. Without heartless they still have value. Comboed with heartless and Purphoros it may give us a grindy win. That and flashback off dark dwellers.

2nd idea. Stick closer to original deck shape but change the creatures. Potentially use Countryside Crusher to filter the sin Prodder draws so they're all above 0dmg. Maybe Shivan Wumpus, as early land destruction off heartless.

3rd idea. Use creatures like Thunderbreak Regent as they're a pain to remove. Possibly use Massacre Wurm, Inferno Titan for a bigger swing of momentum or bring back Zurgo (who I'm very fond of). Maybe supplement with Wall of Omens for early game + ajani or nahiri as a planeswalker

Open to any thoughts and suggestions!

Definitely go for some hand disruption. After that, take either direction, and I don't really know which is better, but the hand disruption is more or less mandatory.

Shivan Wumpus sounds hilarious.

Lingering Souls sounds like a bad idea.

April 20, 2016 6:50 p.m. Edited.

Id have to disagree there is a reason Shivan Wumpus isn't played at all and Lingering Souls is played in almost every deck that runs white. The value of the card is so good whereas Shivan Wumpus ability isn't guaranteed and he is very easy to remove.

April 20, 2016 9:43 p.m.

True, but you also don't see Heartless Summoning brews ever. Keep in mind that this deck is a brew and thus, basing card choices off of 'what cards see play' is a logical fallacy.

Lingering Souls doesn't belong because it is bad anti-synergy with one of the main cards in the deck, Heartless Summoning.

Shivan Wumpus, on the other hand, has beautiful synergy with Sin Prodder. He doesn't see any play because there has never been a card like Sin Prodder in the game to abuse it. He isn't great without either Sin Prodder or Heartless Summoning, but nothing in this deck is very good without either one of those 2 cards.

This is a brew, so I could be dead wrong, but those are my thoughts on the matter.

April 20, 2016 9:47 p.m.

Tbh your creature package isn't very modern ready. Sin Prodder and gurmag are fine. I would only run 2 dark dwellers. All of your other creatures are very easy to deal with and don't really change the board state too much. Vampire Nighthawk and Monastery Swiftspear both have great value and mentor goes great with in this type of deck. Also if you add these creatures Heatless Summoning is pretty useless and I would just play playsets of bolt, path and helix because they will win the game for you. Also Wall of Omens is not a bad idea but you could also try Gitaxian Probe for draw and info as well as adding to your Sin Prodder triggers.

I'm liking the current additions of Shivan Wumpus and Wall of Omens

April 21, 2016 8:16 a.m.

and I'd say that Vampire Nighthawk and Monastery Swiftspear suffer from the same boltability and lack of evasion that his other creature do.

I would recommend Desecration Demon over nighthawk in this style of deck.

Bahaha a two mana 6/6 with Trample. Well I guess it'd be a 5/5... but still.

TAKE THAT TARMO!

I love you Draw_Wurm!

Great deck. +1,000

Semblance Anvil is subject to way more sideboard hate than Heartless Summoning would be.

Not to mention Heartless Summoning is Draw_Wurm's calling card.

April 21, 2016 3:01 p.m.

Dude, there are only 2 Lightning Bolt in here. Fix that now. Cut 2 Wumpus for it.
