KingSorin: howdy :D

mul daya inconsistent? That's ok. She is either an early 5/5 or great mana ramp. Often she gets me 2 black to top of phyrexian or help me toss out two 3 cost creatures. It also has nice synergy with Domri Rade . So would kruphix, and yes kruphix gets me direct card advantage and a pinch of lifegain.

but I am endeavoring to keep as many cards in my deck threatning, game-winning pieces. Mul Daya Channelers is like a utility weak kruphix that can kill very nicely. Though, I wouldn't consider mul daya weak, just different utility. Kruphix can't really kill someone. It is only a 2/4. can't be bolted which is nice, but.... it can't kill. mul daya is either a beast or mana ramp for 3 mana. Rarely do I have one of my noncreature/nonlands on top of my library, but that's ok if it does due to rarity. She is worth more in this deck due to her killing capability and casting aid.

Fiery Justice is very cool. I have seen it before when I searched for stuff like Electrolyze . It ain't instant but your are right, it is a very nice card. Sideboard me thinks xD

Thanks for the information GlistenerAgent: ur just spitting out gold nuggets right now xD

I'll go check out all that stuff :D

So far for sideboard I am thinkin: Fiery Justice , Fulminator Mage , Destructive Revelry , Deflecting Palm , Abrupt Decay , and such. I am strongly considering Aurelia's Fury ; that's multitasking xD. They are not creatures unfortunately, but that is my immediate list without extensive research lol

I really like abrupt decay and fiery justice, but maybe incinerate is better? when sideboarding, somthing that i like to do is build in little packages for different archetypes. Anger of the gods and ancient grudge are ridiculous in some matchups, abrupt decay is good all around when you have dead cards. Against LD i would side out obilterators and put in something thats good against them, i dont know hwat that would be though.

read it and weep. This is a competitive land destroying deck. It kicks arse, please do not say that LD is not a real deck. correct that false statment by saying 'land destruction is not a commonly played deck, or in the meta' and so on.

"is not a real deck" --> not a deck that is commonly played, or is by any means competitive

Land destruction is not good. It can certainly win games, but any disruption at all and you're dead.

disrupt what?!?! I am playing LD, disrupt that? the best you could do is burn my birds.. i guess...

really?

oh boy.... ooooh boy.... holy crap. This thing kills t1 decks... you don't understant, "you don't know the power of the land destruction!"

(if you wish to argue further, can you speak on that deck plz?)

Counterspells? Discard spells? We call that disruption.

I would try a sideboard along the lines of this:
2-3x Fulminator Mage --- vs. Tron and against manlands (Control, The Rock and variants, and Affinity)
2x Stony Silence --- vs. Affinity and maybe Pod
1-2x Maelstrom Pulse --- vs. Tokens, and other places when multi-purpose removal is necessary
1-2x Obstinate Baloth --- vs. Burn and Affinity
2x Thrun, the Last Troll --- vs. Control and The Rock (and variants)
2-3x Thoughtseize --- vs. Twin, Kiki-Pod, and Control
2-3x Spellskite --- vs. Twin, Infect, anything with an amount of targeted removal (like UWR control)

I don't do modern too much, but I like to think that I know a little about it (in other words, this is my suggestion, but it's certainly not perfect). Would you guys let me know if this is a decent sideboarding plan?

@nickiru --- I would also try to fit at least 1x Tectonic Edge into the mainboard, if not just to search up with KotR. If you wanted to, you could also probably use Treetop Village . Just a suggestion.

Thrun isn't all that good vs Rock. ...and for the same reason he's not that good in that match up Obstinate Baloth is good. Both cards being affected by Liliana of the Veil .

Spellskite is good enough to have MB even.

September 16, 2014 12:51 p.m.

@APPLE01DOJ His deck plays a lot of creatures, though. Sacrificing shouldn't be a problem, though you're right that it can be.

If you want to play Thrun, never play more than one. You'll regret it. Obstinate Baloth is bonkers.

Here's a tip for sideboard building in Modern: Your sideboard cards should, as much as possible, be haymakers. They need to be cards that powerfully hate out a deck, like Affinity hate or Anger of the Gods , or do very powerful things when they hit play that significantly counteract opposing plans (Inferno Titan , Keranos, God of Storms ). Playing cards like Temporal Extortion that don't have a specific place for you to sideboard them in should not be played. Remember that the sideboard is not the cards you couldn't fit in the maindeck, it's the cards that will change the game in certain places. I should write a guide to Modern SBing sometime.

GlistenerAgent: You really should, as I would benefit greatly from it. I think I'm pretty good at theoretical deckbuilding, but my lack of tournament experience means that my sideboards tend to be rather janky.

APPLE01DOJ says... #13

U'll win more games if u just switch that Electrolyze to Lightning Bolt or Abrupt Decay

For every Electrolyze u play, that could be a free win for Twin. Think about it that way.

I dunno how u don't have G or W available to u in a mana base running that many fetches. U do realize that a Bloodstained Mire can grab a Godless Shrine or a Overgrown Tomb right?

I think u should take all the SB advice above but it's okay to have a couple singleton's I'd recommend Torpor Orb Grafdigger's Cage Spellskite and a Sword to be some of them. Sword of Feast and Famine may help ur game plan but Sword of Light and Shadow offers some protection from Path to Exile and Maelstrom Pulse ...common answers for Phyrexian Obliterator

GlistenerAgent it's true that he plays a lot of creatures but they don't come down as fast as affinity or tokens so it's easy to keep pace with, especially since most of the early game is only mana rampers. Thrun is a bad ass either way though. I MB 1 just for Control and when he comes down he just is unstoppable. :) Even better when 1-2 Treetop Village are on the field.

TheAnnihilator: hey thanks for the ideas. Your sideboard gives me some good ideas and a general direction :D

I actually have really been wanting to put in a Tectonic Edge , but I don't know what lands to replace. I was thinkin of replacing 1 Ob Nixilis, the Fallen for 1... maybe: ob nix is always good unless you draw all 3 of them lol. ( i just had that happen recently )

I was also thinking of adding Grove of the Guardian to add to Knight of the Reliquary 's arsenal as well... Though that may be over specialization.

GlistenerAgent: You should right a side boarding guide: I would read :D

APPLE01DOJ: sorry, but Electrolyze stays. It potentiall can kill 2 things and replace itself which is liek a 3 for 1. bolt and decay can only do 1 for 1. If I had to picka weakness it is vs mass token decks. A hoard of 1/1's is tricky for me to handle. Since I have added Arena I have been beating them consistantly, but they still tricky. Electrolyze is simply beautiful for that application. Also it can take out mana dorks, 2 of them which is devastating to a lot of decks. It can kill kiki, as well as the dorks in that pod deck. Bolt kills one thing. Sorry, im stubborn about it :D

you said, "I dunno how u don't have G or W available to u in a mana base running that many fetches." SOrry I don't understand... lol, my understanding skills are crap. Are you saying I have too many fetches and not enough GW? or I am simply lacking GW?

To answer it literally, how do I not have GW available? You saying as if I or someone said that I don't have enough GW? but I do... sorry I misunderstand the statement I think...

I am absorbing the sideboard info. Like a sponge xD and thanks for the card suggestions. I am liking Torpor Orb .

So I developed a sideboard of nothing but 1 ofs... What you guys think?

1x Abrupt Decay = anti affinity, tron a bit, you know about this card lol

1x Blightning = burn, mass discard

1x Deflecting Palm = counters fat creature decks, fatter than mine. This will probably be switched out

1x Destructive Revelry = anti affinity, tron, cage, anything wanting art or encht

1x Drown in Sorrow = anti token

1x Fiery Justice = anti token and maybe fat creatures

1x Fulminator Mage = anti tron, anti man lands, disruption

1x Hail of Arrows = anti tokens, anti kiki

1x Inquisition of Kozilek = annoyance, (if a card in my deck is useless (which is rare) i use this)

1x Nath of the Gilt-Leaf = annoyance, (if a card in my deck is useless (which is rare) i use this)

1x Naturalize = anti affinity, tron, and such

1x Putrefy = anti kiki pod, uh.... artifacts lol

1x Sowing Salt = tron

1x Temporal Extortion = extra turn or damage: (if a card in my deck is useless (which is rare) i use this)

1x Wrecking Ball = tron, anti kiki, anti singularly creature piece dependent decks.

________-

obviously some cards are trash for sideboard like Nath of the Gilt-Leaf . SO just tell me what is good here; what should I focus on :D?

nickiru says... #15

actually scratch my last post on sideboard. let me take this a bit more seriously: I just updated my sideboard after some extensive thoughts. What do you guys think now?

September 16, 2014 6:15 p.m.

A lot of the cards you are trying to play are much too expensive. Aurelia's Fury is practically unplayable, as it requires a large mana investment to be strong and there are much better options for removal. Wrecking Ball is too expensive for what it does, and what it does isn't even that powerful in game. Temporal Extortion is not really very good either. I know you can cast it, but it's a waste of a slot. Hail of Arrows is also too expensive to be good. Naturalize is strictly worse than Ancient Grudge and Nature's Claim in this format.

Remember, find the most powerful and mana-efficient cards to put in your sideboard. You want haymakers that can break certain matchups, like Shatterstorm , Keranos, God of Storms , Obstinate Baloth or Anger of the Gods .

I've definitely seen people play sideboards with fourteen different cards, but I feel that that is for people who are very skilled in the intricacies of sideboarding, and I would never try it unless I am very familiar with the deck. I don't even know that I would play fifteen distinct cards if I was that proficient of a player. Play multiples of the cards that are very good, and evaluate each card stringently. Cost efficiency is key.

September 16, 2014 6:31 p.m.

nickiru says... #17

I agree with you; mostly, lol.

Yah, Wrecking Ball could be something better.

The reason I took naturalize over the other two you said were strictly better, was for Blood Moon .

Blood Moon utterly eats my deck for breakfast and craps out by supper. My core color is green so I would like to be able to instant speed float green and then instant kill Blood Moon . That was my only reasoning, lol.

I would consider Creeping Corrosion over Shatterstorm just because my deck's mana base is a green core. I won't need to deal with red for somthing exactly the same: well how often do I need to worry about artifacts regenerating... lol

I'm liking Obstinate Baloth , are there others like that?

September 16, 2014 7:07 p.m.

asasinater13 says... #18

Loxodon Smiter is similar but won't help you nearly as much against a burn deck.

September 16, 2014 7:09 p.m.

Wilt-Leaf Liege and Loxodon Smiter are like Obstinate Baloth , but I recommend only playing the Baloth because it provides more value than the others (namely, the lifegain is very good against the prevalent burn deck).

Creeping Corrosion is completely fine. Be aware that some Affinity decks play Welding Jar .

Nature's Claim deals with Blood Moon just fine, and the lifegain does not matter, so I recommend you play that over Naturalize if anything,

September 16, 2014 7:12 p.m.

asasinater13 says... #20

Nature's Claim would also make it easier for you to keep up one land that could produce green to destroy the blood moon, rather than one for green and one whatever.

September 16, 2014 7:17 p.m.

nickiru says... #21

Yah I'm sold on Nature's Claim , lol. Like Fiery Justice , I don't care about their life too much.

I swapped out Hail of Arrows with more Fiery Justice es. I just played a game witnessed the utter devestation justice can do, ( HOLY CRAP )

would you guys hurl and puke if I said that I am considering putting Glittering Wish in? I would probably only put 1 or 2 in place of a couple Path to Exile 's...

I probably won't do it, I will test it, but I do foresee some slowness weaknesses but.... The options it can give me through that card. Access to almost my entire sideboard through one card....

September 16, 2014 8:59 p.m.

That card seems fine. I personally don't like it too much, as I feel its gimmicky, but you can certainly try it.

September 16, 2014 9:04 p.m.

just make sure to note in a tournament that only hits your sideboard, I wouldn't replace path with the wish though.
