Cool and the Grave Titan is beastly in this deck, almost as beastly as your Flail/Obliterator Combo, +1 from me

I played this against my esper deck 3 games. First game with this deck I wasn't able to draw any creatures except for a wurm and a turn 9 ranger, or enough land. It was able to control the esper deck's creatures and extracted the Phantasmal Image s and Sun Titan s, but in the end it won with Gideon Jura and a top decked Geist of Saint Traft . Second game with your deck, I couldn't seem to draw enough black mana lands to use my handful of Obliterators. With the esper deck also being controlling, by the time I was able to put out creatures (turn 6-7), I was able to remove or counter it. Turn 7 I put out a Venser, controlled the three creatures that hit the field, and got the ultimate off and won. Third game the obliterater came out on turn 4, and your deck controlled my creatures in hand for a good while. It hit me twice before drawing an Oblivion Ring . Turn 6 I put out a Sun Titan , bringing back an image and a Geist of Saint Traft which eventually won it.
Anyway, this is a great deck against the top meta, but doesn't seem to know what to do against a deck that lacks a bunch of creatures. Also, I'm not sure why with 24 land and all, but I never seemed to draw enough of it. I only stuck with a hand with at least 2 land in hand, but never seemed to draw enough after. Hoped this helped! Please, feel free to help me on my esper deck as well. +1 from me. :)

Any suggestions that would make this a little more well rounded then?

I highly recommend Vault Skirge, mainly because you don't have any creatures until the 3 drop, if you are lucky. Skirge is an excellent 1-2 drop. Perhaps replace a Phyrexian Rager and a Ponder? Otherwise, +1. :)

I like the Vault Skirge bit I really feel like the draw is needed here for the deck to work properly. I'll play around with a few and see How it goes Thanks for the tip!

I'd go with what Renkan said. I'd take one extraction out and into the sideboard, and replace it with a ponder for a bit more draw, and then just replace the rangers with the skirge.

Also I like to keep the Evil Presence for wolf run decks. Has anyone truer playtesting against any other decks?

Cackling Counterpart for your creatures, instead of Phantasmal Image . Its your choice but the flashback I think works well in your deck.

I've thought about it and may use it. I've also thought about using Evil Twin

So what about swapping the ragers for the Bloodgift Demon ?

the rages are better because they are the lowest summon you have. You are stuck till turn 7 with just canceling w/o the rager. That draw card is much better in the early game.

So I play tested against my tezzeret homebrew(esper). And my deck won because of 4 o-rings lol. Day of Judgment wiped out a grave Titan, o ring hit a eager, obliterator, wurm, and some other creature. you didn't draw any Mana Leak until it was too late. Your Doom Blade s killed 2 of my "maned up" Ichor Wellspring . So I drew cards for you using a killspells. Your card:Black Sun's Zenith did wipe my 2 Vault Skirge on turn 3, after taking one with Despise (it was the only creature/planes waker) I drew Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas late and cast it with like 6 or so mana up, and resolved it(neither of us had counters in hand). And I eventually ended up winning with a hit with a "manned up" Tumble Magnet and next turn tezzeret's ultimate thanks to some proliferating.
Sorry for it being jumbled up in order, I was listing the highpoints in the control vs control matchup.
I honestly feel that this deck needs more card draw(Think Twice over Phyrexian Rager ). Or some hard counters, maybe 2 Negate main board?
Surgical Extraction was also weak in the matchup, I don't run counters, so there weren't any good targets to hit. It did hit a discarded Wurmcoil Engine thanks to a late Despise . I now suggest side boarding them for against control decks, and other builds that use graveyard or have super important cards that regularly hit the graveyard.
I only played one game, so I don't know if it was a bad draw, or If I played it wrong.

Thank you for the input xo2. Once I Get the chance i'll try playtesting against yours. What would you recommend removed for Negate ? Also, time to defend mY use of Surgical Extraction lol. I play it mainboard because I always take at least 2 months to study the top decks so I usually know what to remove by turn 2 or 3. And yea o ring and doj usually make things a bit rough lol any more suggestions welcome

So what if I drop the ragers for an extra Ponder or Think Twice and 2 Phyrexian Metamorph ?

Yes please, on the Phyrexian Metamorph . Honestly, with the card draw you currently have, I totally agree with dropping the Phyrexian Rager for the blue card draw, it's part of the benefit of having blue in your deck. I friggen love metamorph because it can copy any creature OR artifact, giving you extra versatility (it also doesn't die to simply being targeted by a spell or ability), and you can pay two life to get around the CMC. :) +1

I thought the same myself. The question is Ponder or Think Twice on the draw?
December 25, 2011 1:26 p.m.
infectorus says... #22
Ponder all the way. Less cmc (and, in my opinion, a better spell) leaves you more mana to use for other spells/equipment/creatures.

Wizard of the Damned says... #23
See I just don't know. I like ponder better and it helps with getting What I need but I like the versatility of think twice. Think I will go with ponder though. I think it will Just be more helpful

You may be able to draw two cards with think twice, but you can rearrange your top deck with ponder giving you more control over what you draw. Some examples:
The top three cards of your deck are removal spells, but your opponent is not playing a creature heavy deck. Think twice will only give you two more removal spells, (for 5 cmc) whereas ponder will allow you to shuffle your deck, giving you a brand new top deck.
The top three cards of your deck are great, (massacure wurm, grave titan, and obliterator) but it's turn four, and you need that obliterator now. Ponder will allow you to rearrange your cards in the correct order, and draw the obliterator.
The same can be said against creature heavy decks, ponder can get you that kill spell three cards down that you need now.

Wizard of the Damned says... #25
yeah that's the main reason I decided to go with ponder. Knowing what my next cards are is always an advantage to me
Wizard of the Damned says... #1
I added the 3rd zenith just for token heavy decks. I figured the additional zenith would allow Mr for better field wipes
