I had a thought and I don't know if its any good but what about Unearth? It hits almost all your hatebears and can be cycled. I was gonna add it when I thought it was an instant but what do you think?

Nice list! Appreciated the detailed primer.

One question: Why Luminarch Ascension?

artichoker, if your meta is somewhat creature heavy then Luminarch Ascension can be bonkers. I've been piloting Blood Pod for a couple months now and I've noticed that often times I find myself needing Serra Ascendant and Linvala to be able to get draws for Tymna. Usually a turn 1 or 2 Luminarch will guarantee you free angel tokens by turn 3 and they're also really good for keeping the Ad Nauseum decks' life totals in check.

I have been debating building this deck for a while now as my second competitive deck and I have a few inquiries.

First being; I have found Kiki combos to be somewhat fragile and despite being incredibly powerful, my meta sees an abnormal amount of Praetor's Grasp, Sadistic Sacrament, and even weirdly Gonti, Lord of Luxury's to the point that this combo seems to be a bit of a detriment for those that play it in my meta unless they can race into it before it gets stolen by one of the aforementioned cards. As this is not the deck to race to the combo, I am inclined to not want to play this combo.

With this in mind, have you ever experimented with the idea of a Living Plane combo for the deck? As a stax deck, you intend to play the long game anyway so a 4cmc stax piece shouldn't be too big of a deal to run. Living Plane can function as a stax piece to give lands summoning sickness and even a deterrent for opponents to cast a Wrath of God effect considering it will also result in an Armageddon. And in case it somehow wasn't obvious, Living Plane combined with either Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite or Linvala, Keeper of Silence (of which you already run both) is more or less impossible to come back from if you have succeeded in resolving stax pieces prior to the combo.

I am also a huge fan of Yisan, the Wanderer Bard lines in decks that are not mono green and would love to see this expanded upon. Although Seedborn Muse would not give you the full value you could get from a deck that has access to blue in allowing you to perpetually leave up mana for counterspells, I feel that there is potential for something involving it if the Yisan lines were expanded upon.

Purely hypothetically speaking as I doubt you would want to rebuild your entire strategy for a combo that is likely to be weaker, but other than the pieces of the Kiki combo, what would you consider swapping out if you were to convert this list to a more Yisan oriented build with Elesh/Linvala+Living Plane as the intended combo? And would you even consider this to be a worthwhile endeavor to explore? Honestly, I just want to play the Living Plane combo and this deck seems like a decent shell for it while also allowing me to play my favorite strategy (stax).

Hey what are your thoughts on Harsh Mentor?

Decrepit_Angel I dont agree with focusing the deck on adding more Yisan pieces just because that is not the primary objective of the deck. If you do that, your stax strength will go down, Yisan may also be their next target which is way easier to remove.

You still have Splinter Twin in case Kiki gets exiled. If it goes to exile also, you can go full-on aggro by tutoring Elesh Norn. I strongly think that is enough to pull off a win. But then again, going for an early win isnt this decks main strength. You usually win turn 5-7 the earliest.

Ooops sorry, theres no splinter twin in the deck. I got confused with another one.

Anyway, instead of going for a Kiki combo, try to aim a contamination and go full agrro with Elesh.

Hey guys thoughts on replacing Caustic Caterpillar with Keening Apparition? I have loved it and i think the card gets overlooked often in CEDH because its not green.

How often does this deck win with Tana? I'm super interested in this deck and what it does and I really really love turning creatures sideways. Just want to harness the power of Tana in this deck.

Im confused... Can you win the buried alive route with karmic, kiki jiki and bell ringer by reanimating karmic with animate dead because hes pro black...

roguelikedev says... #14

@sliverking tana is for the colors@jabberdlakjfldkajf things in graveyards have no abilities so you can target guide, once it comes into play animate dead immediately goes to the graveyard as a state based action but it killing guide still goes on the stack so you put its ETB on the stack over it, its ETB resolves reanimating kiki, kiki has time to clone it before it is sacrificed reanimating bellringers, now you're off to the races

So neither list is running Eladamri's Call. It seems pretty good with Rule of Law effects.

Would this deck be a good entry level deck to begin playing cedh? Or would you have a better recommendation?

April 18, 2018 8:36 a.m.

Sgtpopnfreash says... #17

WarSpaniel, if I remember correctly this is generaly a worse strategy for beginners since knowing which hands to keep depends on you knowing how each of your opponents decks works so you can chose the correct stax pieces to stop 3 other players. In a combo deck mulliganing just means finding a hand with a route to your combo. Its also a fairly expensive deck with all 10 fetch lands and 4 colors.

What does Felidar do that you wouldn't be able to do with restoration angel?

April 18, 2018 10:54 p.m.

Sgtpopnfreash says... #19

Yisan Lines flicker Village bell ringer to untap Yisan. This means once you tap Yisan, the Wanderer Bard the third time you can get to Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker

Sgtpopnfreash says... #20

Derp sorry I mean Karmic Guide is an angel so if you lose Bell Ringer Then the reanimator win can be done with Felidar Guardian and Karmic Guide instead.

@epfoiler256 -

Here's how you do it:

Pod into Guardian, blink pod. Pod Guardian into Karmic Guide, get Guardian, pod into Kiki. Kiki clone Guide, get Guardian, win.

I think HulkBall is a way better and more competitive build for Tymna Tana. Played both for months and had more success with HulkBall

What about Sanctum Prelate? 2 stops Cyclonic Rift and some counterspells and 3 stops the Toxic Deluge

What about Imperial Recruiter in this decklist?

May 26, 2018 1:15 a.m.

Sgtpopnfreash says... #25

I played a lot of recruiter and I liked that it was a 3 drop that could birthing pod into guardian but its really not that great overall.
