Standard Black/Blue/Green (BUG) Midrange, capitalizing on potent cards such as Abrupt Decay, Courser of Kruphix and solid midrange threats backed by good removal.
This deck also synergizes with
Kiora's Follower
and Desecration Demon, when both are out, we remove the downside of our demon and ensure that he is swinging for the fences every turn unless they are removed.
Card Choices
Thoughtseize Gives us information from our opponent while allowing us to strip a threat or answer from their hand, pretty standard include.
Sylvan Caryatid Mana fixing and an early blocker against hyper aggressive decks, this guy is an all star and ensures that we can hit our double black and green costs at the 3 and 4 CMC slots.
Kiora's Follower
This guy is super awesome, he's a 2/2 bear for GU and can either act as ramp, give one of our guys pseudo vigilance, or get our Desecration Demon through regardless of his trigger.
Abrupt Decay Probably best instant speed removal spell in standard currently, and will become much more played now that the B/G temple is available. We are getting ahead of the bandwagon and playing 3 of them to handle threats like
Domri Rade
, Detention Sphere, Underworld Connections and just about every permanent in aggro decks.
Courser of Kruphix Amazing card, this guy provides us with yet another early wall for aggro decks to deal with while ensuring that we hit land drops and keep drawing gas. The life gain is also very relevant and needed as we run shockslands and thoughtseize.
Herald of Torment
This was a hard choice between this guy and Master of the Feast, but I feel that the ability for this guy to act as both a 3 and 5 drop creature, plus the fact that he doesn't draw cards for our opponent puts him ahead, bestowing this guy on a polukranos and swinging for 8 in the air on turn 5 is always satisfying.
Hero's Downfall Obvious reasons, hits just about every creature and slaps down pesky planeswalkers as well.
Kiora, the Crashing Wave Two of these lets us fog out big creatures and force favorable attacks/blocks, she also generates card advantage and ramps us when we can safely use her -1. The synergy with Courser of Kruphix is real.
Whip of Erebos For now we run 2 in the mainboard because it stabilizes games against aggro like few other cards in the format. If it is left unchecked against control it allows us to recur our dudes after a wrath or spot removal.
Desecration Demon Big D, this guy is a powerhouse which can generally be throttled by his triggered ability. We try to abuse this by using
Kiora's Follower
to ensure that regardless of sacrifices, he gets to punch through for damage.
Polukranos, World Eater Our other heavy hitter, has a great monstrous ability and gives us a potent answer to Blood Baron of Vizkopa as well. Can hit both Desecration Demon and Polukranos, World Eater turn 3 with our mana dorks.
Prophet of Kruphix
Made room for one of her because he is insane and probably the most undervalued and underplayed card in standard currently. Would love to make room for two after playtesting, when she hits turn 3 or 4 and sticks we just take over the game by playing threats on our opponents turns.
Vraska the Unseen Nonland permanent destruction, and an assassin token alternate win condition earns her a spot in the 60 as a singleton, she can be a huge problem for some decks to deal with.
