Hey nbarry223 I also just started, want to do a practice game to get the hang of it?

March 25, 2014 4:21 p.m.

nbarry223 says... #3

okay, I got the basic hang of it. It is okay, just a bit hard to see cards sometimes. I prefer untap.in in that aspect, although it is having lag issues right now (such a shame, great site otherwise).

Seems alright though, once you get the hang of things.

Featured again. I believe it stays on for 16 hours, so it should be up there all day every day! Neat deck luigithefourth!

I'm happy to help where I can with Cockatrice...I'm not great at it, but a few things that make it easier:

  1. Control + i will roll a dice (for the beginning of the game)
  2. You can select all creatures at once to add items like counters to all of them.
  3. If you right click a creature, it will create an arrow to show who you are attacking/blocking (i.e. you can put it toward the player and thy can show who is blocking who).

I hope this helps a little...it's a tougher program in terms of managing the stack, etc.; but it's free and you can literally play every card in the game....so it's GREAT for the Duels. Dreno33 thought of everything :)

ProfessorDucky....thanks for the color-backgrounds...I'll have to see how to get those in there and figure out what looks the nicest...Dreno33 will have to make a logo for the TappedOut Duels and get in in the background :) It's amazing to see what you smarty-pants can do on the web!

Dreno33, Command+F gives you full screen, which might look a bit better on the videos. More fun, if you haven't downloaded the token pack, it's great addition and will add to attractive visuals. You can get it here. And CurdBrosBrewingCo, if you want to add the new backgrounds just go to settings and change the "path to hand background" field, and the same for the others.

Soon we'll have enough people to start having some 8mans and eventually fnms, if ssome someone was good with match pairing math and what not

March 26, 2014 2:15 p.m.

-Bean- says... #9

Yeah I bet we could do some slightly more casual tournaments. Maybe only broadcast the finals?

March 26, 2014 2:26 p.m.

@ryuzaki32667

That's not hard, I believe there's sites that make the brackets you are speaking of, I've had to use them for tournaments IRL in various sports and stuff (this was a while ago, but I don't see why those type of sites wouldn't exist anymore). However those were more complicated brackets, making heats with a max number of like 8 and minimum of 5 with 100s if not thousands of participants. Simple 1v1s aren't hard to set up at all, you can even do it by hand if you wanted (just pull names from a hat for order or whatever, and set up the brackets like that).

they'd be like:

A vs B

C vs D

E vs F

G vs H

and winner moves on until you run out of participants, it's a fairly straightforward bracket if it's just 1v1 lol. For odd amounts of participants, (choose one at random) and they get a free pass that round and advance to the next. That's the fairest way to do single elimination brackets, in my opinion anyway.

I was meaning the tiebeaker math, thats where i fail, I always have to ask my friends if i can draw in and what not

March 26, 2014 11:12 p.m.

nbarry223 says... #12

I'm not sure what you mean, games are played to best of 3 usually, and in cases of ties (which I don't really see happening) both can advance to the next round. Making brackets is fairly straightforward, you can even have losers brackets at certain points if it's big enough, so that winners + top 3 losers advance or whatever. It's really simple to set up, I wouldn't mind if we have enough people and you guys think it's too hard to set up lol.

March 26, 2014 11:26 p.m.

ryuzaki32667 says... #13

Like if there are 5 rounds and somehow 3 people end up 4-1, it goes to the tiebreakers and is based on how your opponents did and it matters if they won their matches 2-0 or 2-1.

March 26, 2014 11:46 p.m.

nbarry223 says... #14

Oh, you're talking more of a round robin than a single elimination. Yes, then we'd have to keep track of all 3 games, and have single elimination finals probably with the top however many people that only had 1 loss probably (if it's big enough tournament).

There's lots of different ways to set it up, round robin would allow everyone to play about the same amount of games, so would probably be the best choice, I guess. I was just thinking single elimination because it's easier to see the results (you win you move on, you lose, you're out).

anyway, it is up to the person hosting the tournament what will work best if he chooses to do more than just a 1v1.

March 26, 2014 11:55 p.m.

Dreno33 says... #15

a tournament would be REALLY cool, and I have thought of this before.

I haven't considered whether it be a single elimination or round robin (fnm style), but I HAVE thought it would be cool as a special Tournament to bring back old winners for a few back to back matches against each other in the same format. Just a thought though.

ATTN Contestants AND Spectators:

The match that is TOMORROW, Sunday the 30th @ 12pm PST, will require a password. The password is "duel3"

ProfessorDucky and TitansFTW, one of you must volunteer to create the game tomorrow following these EXACT settings, for I can not.

Note the password AND uncheck the box for registered users required.

March 29, 2014 3:43 p.m.

Just as an aside for spectators who will be spectating for the first time. In order to see the game on Cockatrice you will have to:

  1. Find the member who has created the game on the list within Cockatrice on either the User List or Chat Room (it is very easy to see...you just scroll down to the correct user and right-click them).
  2. Right-click the user and choose the "Show this user's games" option.
  3. You will then have to click "Filter Games"; clicking the box for both "password protected" and "unavailable games" (as the game may not show up without these filters).
  4. After you have done so, you will see the game, can press join, and enter the password (in this case, "duel3"). At this point, you're in!

I write this because I had troubles my first time finding the game (because I didn't filter them).

I'm sure Dreno33 will list who is creating the game ( out of either ProfessorDucky or TitansFTW )and their Cockatrice name (just in case its different) so you can easily find the correct player!

I can't wait to watch! I will be spectating for sure!
