Tatyova, layered combo competitive build

Commander / EDH Elves GU (Simic) Landfall

Gameplan with our mermaid queen Tatyova, Benthic Druid is to cast her as soon as possible and start gathering value via land ramp and card draw by playing lands.
Contrary to most casual decks that rely on Tatyova, Benthic Druid to start ramping and drawing by playing multiple lands per turn, we need to include some fast mana rocks & mana dorks Birds of Paradise to get us started gaining advantage from playing lands. After all, our commander costing 5 mana is kinda pricey.
Jeweled Lotus is a perfect auto-include in our commander build which can haste us by 3 free mana to cast Tatyova, Benthic Druid so much earlier. Quite Possible turn 1-2 casts.

After early land ramping and gathering value by drawing more and more cards, almost all our strategies to win involve enabling an draw engine, once we have that mana comes next and then the win outlets finish the game. All of that will be explained down in combo sections.

CARD CHOICES
Let us list our card choices in some orderly manner to see what we are playing with before going into card interactions for combos, infinite mana, infinite draw, and win outlets.

Extra lands per our turn

These cards enable us to play more lands during our turn, giving us huge mana and card advantage with Tatyova, Benthic Druid on the field.

  1. Azusa, Lost but Seeking
  2. Dryad of the Ilysian Grove
  3. Oracle of Mul Daya
  4. Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait
  5. Exploration

Azusa, Lost but Seeking is probably the strongest card that lets us play even additional lands per turn, which is great on its own but also enables us some combos that other cards who let us play only additional land per turn can't. This will be explained latter in combo section.

Dryad of the Ilysian Grove besides the good effect of playing additional land per turn, gives us much valuable effect of making all our lands islands which we will need for combos with Mystic Sanctuary and/or Walk the Aeons

Oracle of Mul Daya people love this card in green, and it is good, although I'd love for it to cost one mana less. Nonetheless, good card that lets us play lands from top of our library, but also reveals our top card to opponents.

Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait Is stronger version of our commander, he's not in command zone because Tatyova, Benthic Druid is one mana cheaper and that's quite important in cedh environment.
Aesi is really powerful in our deck, because he's doubling our commander effect and gives us much needed additional land to play per turn.

Exploration cheapest among the additional per turn cards we got, extra good turn one play.

Additional lands per turn

We also have few other ways to get our lands on the field.

  1. Burgeoning
  2. Summer Bloom
  3. Sakura-Tribe Scout
  4. Skyshroud Ranger
  5. Walking Atlas
  6. Scapeshift
  7. Splendid Reclamation
  8. Crop Rotation
  9. Growth Spiral
  10. Harrow
  11. Gretchen Titchwillow

Summer Bloom even thou its a sorcery that gets used once and maybe you happen not to have 3 additional lands to play, its an amazing card that enables us few infinite combo plays.

ASHAYA & QUIRION RANGER COMBO

  1. Ashaya, Soul of the Wild
  2. Quirion Ranger
  3. Tatyova, Benthic Druid / Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Ashaya, Soul of the Wild makes all of our nontoken creatures forests.
- a creature without summoning sickness for with its "forest" mana ability.
Quirion Ranger is now also a forest and he can use its effect to return itself to hand and creature without summoning sickness that will produce each time which we will use to recast Quirion Ranger.
- on each loop of Quirion Ranger entering the field, as he is also a forest, we draw due to Tatyova, Benthic Druid or Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait's effects.

This simple draw combo can also give us mana if :

  1. Dryad of the Ilysian Grove is on the field and we play High Tide.
  2. Lotus Cobra or Tireless Provisioner are on the field.
  3. Or you can play Wild Growth/Utopia Sprawl and similar cards on a creature that Quirion Ranger is gonna for .

RETREAT TO CORALHELM COMBO

  1. Retreat to Coralhelm
  2. Sakura-Tribe Scout / Skyshroud Ranger / Walking Atlas / Llanowar Scout / Budoka Gardener
  3. Simic Growth Chamber / Oboro, Palace in the Clouds / Oboro Breezecaller / Trade Routes / Meloku the Clouded Mirror
  4. Tatyova, Benthic Druid / Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Retreat to Coralhelm is a key card, no tutors for it in Simic deck but nonetheless, each of the combo pieces is useful on its own and I like the combo.
We will also need our land play drawing engine triggers in form of Tatyova, Benthic Druid and/or Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait.
There's five creatures with effect " to play a land from the hand" and we are running three of them, enough.
And we also needs some means to keep returning those lands back to our hand so we can replay them again:
Simic Growth Chamber / Oboro, Palace in the Clouds / Oboro Breezecaller / Trade Routes / Meloku the Clouded Mirror

NOTE: when we draw new lands, keep playing them instead the returning lands so we increase our mana pool.

Retreat to Coralhelm draw combo can also give us mana if:

  1. Dryad of the Ilysian Grove is on the field and we play High Tide.
  2. Lotus Cobra or Tireless Provisioner are on the field.
  3. returning card is Simic Growth Chamber and it comes untapped because of Amulet of Vigor.

WALK THE AEON

If I have Tatyova, Benthic Druid, Ramunap Excavator or Crucible of Worlds, 3 Islands with at least 3 more mana, and any combination of cards in my deck to get 3 land drops each turn (easiest being Azusa, Lost but Seeking), and I cast Walk the Aeons paying the buyback cost by sacrificing 3 Islands, I have infinite turns
