Kodiak you a question? Have you ever wanted to run a teaching deck? That is, a deck that isn't made to win but is made to be overcome by newer players? So it had to have some reasonable threats to play against while teaching them the basic interactions of the game and hopefully give them some wins without feeling like they were being coddled. The scenario is your friend just bought and cracked some packs or one of the starter kits. They make some sloppy jank decks and want someone to teach them how to play.

So my goals are:

  • A tribal theme that makes the combat step interesting, but not so overwhelming that you are constantly having to paws the game.
  • Powerful enchantments or artifacts to teach the importance of removal either in the main deck or sideboard.
  • Graveyard interaction of some sort to teach the importance of alternate zones as resources.
  • Most importantly to have fun!

Goblin, wizard, warrior, merfolk, fairy, rogue, human, eldrazi, and ally tribes are far too strong of decks and I didn't want to purposefully play bad cards and misrepresent those tribes (first impressions are important!). So I found bears tribal to be quirky enough and still have enough supporting cards to be a fearsome enough opponent while also being playful enough that new players can learn and grow and eventually overcome them.

Updates Add

-2 Mother Bear

+2 Ruxa, Patient Professor

This Ruxa card is just too flavorful! Couldn't pass it up and it doesn't look like it will be too abusive in the deck
