I'm not so sure. I think that looking at our win condition, stalling as long as humanly possible until we get to windmill slam Aetherling, it's probably a safe call.

Yeah, no Warped Physique. That would make a tenth of our deck meh removal. At this point, I like the drake. We're going to need some sort of offense since we won't always have Aetherling, and we won't really have to worry about flyers since we'll just kill them.

Opal Lake Gatekeepers has lost a lot of value because we took real cards over the few Gates that would have served us well; as such, I think the Drake is much better because it is consistently going to be in the air, whereas the Gatekeepers are unlikely ever to draw us a card.

+1 Rakdos Drake.

As I see it, our deck presents 2 possible looks. One involves early aggro -- riot piker, woodlot crawler, cyclops, fluxcharger, and carnage gladiator, and then using our removal to play a tempo game, with burn spells as our finishers. The other look is control, with walls, removal, and cluestones early, and rush to the point where aetherling, maze abomination, and blast can seal the game. we have a nice setup in that woodlot crawler, cyclops, and fluxcharger can serve in both styles of the deck.

Winning with this deck will require an early determination of whether we are better suited to the beatdown or control role in the matchup, and tailoring our plays to that role. i think rakdos drake fits nicely into the aggro build.

+1 rakdos drake

I like the control route as well. Aetherling is a fantastic late game. We are likely to be able to pick up more phantasms if we need them, and we have the removal to control the board. I think just sitting on removal and dropping bombs is a decent enough plan. Either way, physique is still getting worse though, but it's good enough that we can still play it.

+1 Warped Physique

I don't think taking a Physique is warranted here. There's no reason for us to need all of them, even if we do have 4. Physique is strongest in the early game, when hands are big and creatures are small. But we don't have great mana fixing to guarantee a turn 2 Physique every game. If this was another Turn/Burn or Far/Away, I'd say take it, no question. But Warped Physique is just not good enough to take up one sixth of our nonland cards.

And because I didn't state it formally earlier, +1 Rakdos Drake

Yeah, I'm definitely not sure about the physique. Drake is definitely the other pick to be considered. I don't really come across this situation often, where we dhave possibly too much removal.

I suppose it comes down to which play style we want to go for. I prefer the control route, where something that cannot block is less useful. If we end up going more aggressive, than drake is the better choice, but more removal, even when weaker, can be effective. We could conceivably land a Cyclops or fluxcharger and continually remove their blockers, and kill them with a blast or something. Physique contributes to both strategies, albeit less to the aggressive one. We should be able to pick up a murmuring phantasm and maybe another Cyclops. We might be able to get another Cluestone, but probably not another gate.

I want to make sure we get our creature count up before there's nothing left in these packs.

Glider I suppose. There isn't much here on color. Clear is abysmal, rusher is decent but glider has a more relevant ability.

We could mill ourselves with Breaking, then Obzedat's Aid our Aetherling! Genius! Nah, its a pipe dream. I'll go with the Glider, it'll give the Cyclops flying, which makes him a ridiculous wall or a ridiculous beater.

Izzet Guildgate, moving on.

Pff yeah. Easy pick. Also, has anyone noticed the large amounts of untaken Viashino Firstblades? We have no Boros groups upstream... Not that it means anything, just pointing it out.

+1 Guildgate

Also, cross your fingers y'all. We're nearing the packs we've already seen. Hope that Cyclops is there for pick 11...

July 27, 2013 4:16 a.m.

Guildgate.

July 27, 2013 11:06 a.m.

Maze Glider or rusher or cluestone for our last pack too.

Guildgate. I think there is just one Boros guy downstream.

Unforgivn_II says... #20

I mean, there should be. We're passing them decent stuff. But honestly, I really like where we're at. Our bombs are pretty bomb-y and with ALL the removal, we should have no issue with disrupting any of our opponent's plans, as well as ensuring ours go as planned, since nobody else CAN take any good removal, since we have it all.

Did we add the last pick into the deck? I'm not sure I see it.
