I would suggest +1 Steam Vents, concerning mama curve already and the R/U curve we've leaned into already it would be the best choice. The Firstblade is a great common, but only on the turn you summon it after that it's just another vanilla 2/2 The value with the drake is we could have a flyer and in limited especially people don't consider flyers (that's how I won prerelease) but Unleashing him means we can't stop potential return flyers and blocking overall.

+1 Steam Vents
So here I think we have to start thinking about the future shape of our deck and the signals we're sending. There are five or 6 playable cards here: Steam Vents, Rakdos Drake, Krasis, Firstblade, Riot Piker, Mind Static. Of those, which send signals? Mind Static and Riot Piker can be picked up later and no one expects them to go early. Firstblade is a strong signal, but we maybe don't want to jump into white, and as people have already pointed out, he's worse here than in full block draft. Krasis tells the next drafter that we're not going green hard, and since green already seems to be drying up, we maybe don't want to go there anyhow. That leaves drake and steam vents. Drake sends a pretty strong signal that we aren't in black -- if we pass it and do want to go Grixis, we'll need to start picking black higher than normal so the player to our left doesn't get the wrong idea. On the other hand, sending a steam vents is a pretty bad signal, since we've already shipped punish the enemy, runner's bane, nivix cyclops, and some others. it's a little frustrating picking a card that doesn't do anything this early, but I think it's right.

Yeah, after this discussion, I think I'll switch my vote to the vents.-1 drake +1 vents

We've been passing some pretty good white and green, and some decent black. We might, although unlikely , be able to pick up the Cyclops.the pack on the return probably won't have that much, something like the possession, maybe the cluestone and the sentinel. We might not be able to pick up piker or cancel.

pack is up. more orzhov guildgate, . . . no black at all. for us: izzet cluestone, hidden strings, maybe protect / serve . . . or we could take render silent and think about splashing white? Test pilot is a 3cmc ornithopter.

I am liking Hidden Strings and Render Silent.
Hidden strings negates Runner's Bane and can clear a path for us to deal some damage in a clogged field.
A properly placed Render Silent is not quite a Time Warp, but close. If we had more economically costed creatures, I'd say Render. But, I am leaning towards Hidden Strings.
A decent creature would have been nice this pack though.

If we can draft into some heavy evasion, then I love almost anything that says cipher. The only time I'm sad about not having render silent if it's used against us to counter our pick one. Also isn't it a very telling card?
This pack just threw me into paranoia. Where are all if the fat bodies? What happened to black all of the sudden? I remember in the last draft that 2 or three people went Junk, but ethereal went with esper and mopped the floor with everyone.
June 28, 2013 11:03 a.m.
Blue/White does offer some really nice options for us. Ascended Lawmage, Deputy of Acquittal, Lavinia of the Tenth, Jelenn Sphinx are all fantastic picks. Odds are good we will see the Deputy at the very least.
I wouldn't despair Kor. Some packs are heavier in colors than others. It could be a fluke pack that favors a color choice.
5 items left are blue or part blue. Another 5 left are white or part white. No black no red and only 1 really bad green card.*
- not counting artifacts or lands which would tilt black and blue/red up slightly.
I'm encouraged because this says that blue is pretty open at the moment. White seems to be too.

+1 Render Silent
Kind of scary to see not creatures in this pack. I'm fine going into some white to keep it open and see what comes up in the next pack(s). Hidden strings is playable, but we'll likely see another one. Render Silent I would run in a deck and we won't see another.

+1 Render Silent
This pack is basically terrible. Hidden Strings is the only thing that's possibly playable in our colors, but its just underwhelming. I suppose it could be used for some kind of janky ramp, or untapping our creatures for blockers. But I don't want to see our Aetherling hit by Render Silent, and with SOOOO many Orzhov Guildgates, splashing white will be no issue. Or if we don't see enough black, we could ditch it and go RWU
June 28, 2013 12:39 p.m.
Jesus... 4 orzhov gates...
the cluestone isn't a bad idea, but render silent is probably more important, if only to protect our bombs.
There are 3 fairly good UW cards here. That does skew the colors a lot.

+1 Render Silent
We've drafted only one black symbol, so we are by no means committed to a tertiary color. If we have to go 'Murica(or UK or France or whatever) that works for me.

+1 Render silent. Hidden strings is okay, but we can pick one up later; ditto cluestone.
June 28, 2013 6:11 p.m.
KorSplicer good point. I have been sort of assuming black just because gladiator is so strong; but we don't have to go that route.
June 28, 2013 8:28 p.m.
Another option to go with if we do the R/W/U route is if we get Riot Control back around, that card is a great White Fog really. Obviously Render SIlent is the best pick out of this pack a Counterspell and Silence all in one for the price of a Cancel. As og right now were are definitely more R/U with the option to splash either W or B due to the ridic number of Orzhov Guildgates lol The Gladiator is strong and being able to regen is is great, but personally I don't like loosing life.

Looks like this one is mad picked over. We can grab a gate or a random blue spell. Not sure it matters.
June 29, 2013 10:40 a.m.
+1 Maze Abomination
It's a creature and a good one. And we are on the fence about W/B. So, let's grab stuff to better help with that decision.
June 29, 2013 11:37 a.m.
+1 Maze Abomination
The gate is tempting but maze abom is really tough to play against. Yeah, it's another 6 drop, but I love 6 drops.

I think its between Hired Torturer or Maze Abomination. The Abomination is almost a bomb, but the Hired Torturer would buy us time to get to our bombs. After playing a draft in last nights FNM, we may actually need some stall tactics. Getting that 6th land can sometimes be difficult, and I went with a Jund Aggro that couldnt be answered fast enough. That was a DGM, GTC, RTR draft, and most of my good cards came from GTC and RTR, but an aggro deck could still be done, so we might want some creatures that can get in the way early
June 29, 2013 12:37 p.m.
There aren't that many good aggressive creatures in dgm. None of the blue spells are really very good, maybe plans could be, but if we're taking black anyway,we might as well take better black.
I like the abomination, but it's still 6 mana. I like the torturer as a relatively constant source of lifeloss. The various fixing is also decent. I think I'll reserve judgment on this one.
We did take render silent, right?

Unforgivn_II says... #25
Part of the awesomeness of the torturer is that he does damage, but still can be used as a blocker
Euphonatron says... #1
That is what I noticed as well. given that there is only one green symbol in the pack, I think there could multiple teams favoring green. we'd better be ready for Unflinching Courage
this pack: 1 green, 3 white, 3 black, 3 red, 2 blue.
