What was in this pack originally? The picks really don't seem very important at this point - Pilfered Plans or another Cluestone?

I think either of the clue stones(Golgari or Rakdos)

July 2, 2013 10:26 a.m.

I say Rakdos Cluestone because we have Zhur-tAA Druid.

I suppose like hubatish said maybe pilfered plans, but i dont feel like thats someting we would want to splash blue for.

Zhur-Taa Druid whoops tagged that wrong

Jarrheadd0 says... #6

Yeah, let's go with the Rakdos Cluestone .

I agree with the above comments. Rakdos Cluestone will provide the colors of mana that Zhur-Taa Druid doesn't. Also, we already have a Golgari Guildgate .

Rakdos Cluestone easy pick

TridenT says... #9

Yeah. Rakdos Cluestone was my first thought, though I kinda second-guessed myself thinking about the Golgari Cluestone for consistency.
Other stuff in this one was:
Carnage Gladiator (Ours)
Far / Away
Rot Farm Skeleton
Azorius Guildgate
Battering Krasis
Hired Torturer
Maze Abomination
Nivix Cyclops

Well, even though the Maze Rusher is in our colors, I would prefer to take the Cluestone anyways, in the case we do eventually run blue. I feel that out of all the maze creatures, this one is the weakest, as it's effect does not have an immediate affect on our creatures (like flying, deathtouch, vigilance and trample do). It only affects that ETB AFTER the rusher is played, making us essentially wait a full turn longer for its full worth than any other maze creature.

EDIT for lazy typo.

'It on affects creatures that ETB...'

I could see the argument for the cluestone, but I think I'd rather have the Maze Rusher , just to have a big hasty creature. As with most of the other Maze cycle creatures, Maze Rusher is decent even without giving anything else haste. It's a red creature with haste and high power, and I would prefer that over some more mana fixing that we are (currently) unlikely to use.

Okay, I think that at this point we have to decide whether or not we try a 4 color deck. I think that in a triple DGM format, it's much more plausible than in an RTR block draft. We'll just have to prioritize guildgates more. Personally, I'd be in favor of trying four colors, simply because it'd be fun and potentially very powerful. So my vote is for theSimic Cluestone .

July 3, 2013 7 a.m.

I agree with Jarheadd0, 4 colors or not? I think Maze Rusher is a good creature because it screws with combat math alot. It's not a great creature thought.

If we were doing four colors, guildgates are more important than cluestones. I'm open to 4 color because in

Dimir there's Far / Away , Haunter of Nightveil , Warped Physique (all uncommon)

Izzet has Turn / Burn , Blast of Genius (uncommon again)

Simic has Beetleform Mage (we have), Give / Take , Krasis Incubation , (uncommon)

I'm not sure what you guys think about splashing for that stuff, Those were just the good cards in common/uncommon.

Now here's a thought. We are definitely in Jund. If we take another color; might it be white? We have two more packs to go, and what if our opening pull in 2 or 3 is a big ol' Boros beat? Also, might it be prudent to snatch up Boros Guildgate in the event that someone else wants it?

I agree with Jarhead that 4 color, heck even 5 color is possible here, but do we want it? That, I don't know for sure. We could spend half our picks maximizing fixing and never really get the best of all these colors we have.

I'm really not sure what to get here. I'm tempted to say Maze Rusher and be done with it, and turn a blind eye to the possibilities.

I would like to hear more from the rest of you tonight, if possible.

Considering the speed (or lack of) of a DGMx3 format, I really don't see any problem with going a fourth color, although i always thought it would have been blue. That said, I could never say no to white.

July 3, 2013 6:47 p.m.

TridenT says... #18

And I swear I'll take the blame for this, but just know if we decide a fourth color is either white or blue, we're only going to get great cards for the other color in coming packs. Just sayin'.

Frostblade says... #19

If we are going to play 4 colors, i think guildgates is the way to go since it is better mana fixing than cluestones. So my vote goes to Boros Guildgate

July 3, 2013 7:40 p.m.

TridenT says... #20

That's where I think I'll lean as well, Frostblade. Boros Guildgate gets my vote. At the very, indescribably worst, someone with a Boros deck to fix doesn't get one. I think we'll wind up putting it to use.

July 3, 2013 7:50 p.m.

Definitely Boros Guildgate , if we take mana fixing, like Frostblade said Gates are just better. I'd rather keep options open than draft a mediocre Maze Rusher

July 3, 2013 8:30 p.m.

TridenT says... #22

And Timekeeper makes a good point about the Maze series being decent creatures all on their own, I think I'll hold out hope for a Maze Abomination or Behemoth. I feel like we're bound to see one more, at least.

And the more colors we run, I hate to say, the more Maze guys AND multicolor duders we can run. It could be a mini-archetype we strive for, if the cards fall into place for it.
