Hello, and welcome to the realm of mono-blue! No, I don't think that will resolve, sorry.

When I was looking into building my first Commander deck, Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir 's second ability caught my eye. Teferi is unique in the way he so heavily controls your opponents actions, and giving your creatures flash also provides you neat ways to abuse your clones and such. Several mechanics just don't function for your opponents with Teferi on the field, including suspend and rebound. Finally, if you get out a Knowledge Pool, you shut down their casting of spells from their hand entirely.

Why Teferi? Show

I recommend the commander to combo players, because he protects your combo pieces during your turn and makes creature combos operate at instant speed.

If you're trying to add a fun deck to your playgroup or don't want to draw aggro, Teferi may not be the best choice, as I've learned. Limiting people to sorcery speed is enough, and people are likely to know of his combos with Knowledge Pool and will learn what the deck does pretty quickly.

The Combos Show

• Palinchron + Phantasmal Image: Infinite Mana as long as you can generate at least 7 mana from your lands

First play your Palinchron, untapping your lands. Now all you need to do is tap your lands for 7 or more, and play Phantasmal Image as a copy of Palinchron, untapping your lands. You should have at least 5 floating at this point, 4 of which goes to returning Phantasmal Image to your hand. Congrats, you now are back where you started with 1 floating, and can repeat this process to go infinite. Teferi will help this resolve by limiting your opponents counters and removal spells to sorcery speed, and also allows you to perform this combo at instant speed due to flash. Notably, this also works when someone else has a Palinchron out instead of you.

• Palinchron or Peregrine Drake + Deadeye Navigator: Infinite mana

A simple combo, just flicker your choice of Urza block blue creature with Deadeye to untap your lands.

• Palinchron, any mana doubler (in this deck, Caged Sun or Gauntlet of Power as permanents or High Tide as a temporary doubler) and 6 double lands: Infinite Mana (again)

Also simple, just tap 6 or 7 lands for 12+ floating and play Palinchron, untap, and return him to your hand with 4 of the floating mana. You've generated 1+ mana and can repeat the process (even at instant speed with Teferi).

• Infinite Mana + Blue Sun's Zenith or Stroke of Genius + Laboratory Maniac: Win

Draw your whole deck, obviously being careful about not milling yourself. If somebody can force you to draw cards, you can draw all but a few cards to minimize risk. Then play Lab Maniac, draw the rest of your deck with one of the many draw cards you got with your Blue Sun's or Stroke of Genius, and you win. Teferi is very helpful to this combo, as it can be done entirely at instant speed. Obviously you can play Lab Maniac before the Blue Sun's effect occurs, if you draw him.

As a bonus, if you're afraid of being forced to draw your entire library before Lab Maniac hits the field, you can just make someone draw their deck and lose.

• Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir + Knowledge Pool: Your opponents cannot resolve spells from their hand. If they try, the spells just go to the Knowledge Pool for you to use.

Probably a meaner combo than anything else in here, and one that only requires one card other than your commander. Because your opponents can only cast spells from the pool on the stack above Knowledge Pool's ability, they are prevented from casting spells because they are limited to sorcery speed. Allows wins with essentially any creature if you can clear enemy fields with removal and bounces, or you can just stall until you get a combo. Generally this combo will provoke scooping, but at the end of the day at least you're winning with something that isn't an infinite! Obviously we can't guarantee drawing the combo, so your tutors will be Treasure Mage, Fabricate, and Transmute Artifact. Long-Term Plans is also a viable tutor in this VERY control-heavy deck that generally guarantees you'll have enough turns or draw to get the card you search for (or just have a Sensei's Divining Top out to get it to your hand for 1 more mana).

Strong Synergies Show

- Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir makes your creatures function at instant speed, which allows you to leave mana open for counterspells and flash your creatures when you no longer need the mana open, and protects them from instant-speed removal.

• Phyrexian Metamorph, Clever Impersonator, or Phantasmal Image: Your clones are flashable. Being able to have instant access to any powerful creature on the board is usually an effective answer to something.

• Gilded Drake: Instant speed mind control is stupid good for 2 mana. Unless you are really scared of your opponent getting a 3/3 flier.
